Connie Hickey opened the meeting with the 4.H pledge followed by the minutes read by Gail Seers. The roll call -- Was answered by naming An Original Safety Slogan. Discussions followed and quizzes were answered on safety in the home, sitting safely and safety away from home. Mrs. Raithby assisted with the buck weaving and plans were made for Achievement Day which will be held in January in Clinton. Arva Ball closed the meeting by leading in the 4-H Creed. Remembrance Sunday will always be remembered by two members of Knox United Church, Miss Margaret R. Jackson and Mrs. Charles Straughan when they were guests of honour at the church service last Sunday. The service was led by the minister, Pastor Alfred Fry and the church organist Mrs. Norman Wightman presided at the organ and accompanied the choir when they sang Give Peace in our Time, 0 Lord. Pastor Fry spoke on the theme Memorials and based his text on Matthew 26:13. He paid tribute to those who had fought and those who had made the Supreme Sacrifice during World War I and H to make our land safe. He spoke of the Memorials placed all around us to remind everyone what has gone before that time. Pastor Fry spoke of the work that Miss Jackson and Mrs. Straughan had done in the Sunday School of the church with the youth and taking their places with the other, organizations in the church. Like many who, gave everything to Christ these Ladies have done what they could and urged to give flowers to the living and show them we respect and honour them for their work they have done. Following the service a reception took place in the Sunday School room where the white linen covered tea table was centred with a bouquet of chrysanthemums flanked by silver candelabra and white tapers and mums. Miss Jackson and Mrs. Straughan were escorted to the platform where beautiful rose corsages were pinned on Miss Jackson by Mrs. Kenneth McDougall and Mrs. Straughan by Mrs. Dorothy Grange. Mr. Maurice Bean, Clerk of Session read an address of thanks to Miss Jackson, who had been elected the first woman elder in Knox United Church and Andrew Koopmans presented her with engraved plaque. Mrs. Norman McDowell read art address to Mrs. Straughan and Mr. Harold Webster presented her with an engraved plaque. Both ladies thanked the members for this remembrance. Mr. Bean made special welcome to relatives attending — Mrs. Donald Kai of Toronto, nice of Miss Jackson; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Nicholson, Seaforth; Mr. and Mrs. John Menheere, Stephen, David and Paul of Dublin; and Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock, Sheron and George Collins, relatives of Mrs. Straughan, Mrs. Hugh Bennett of Port Albert was absent due to illness. Lunch was served by members of the U.C.W. Mr. Ed Haines of Woodstock spent the weekend with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Donald Haines. CIA TON 482,9 4s . , WALKERBURN CLUB The monthly meeting of the Members of Walkerburn Club was held at the home of Mrs, Garth McClinchey with the president Mrs, Elliott Lapp in the chair. The meeting was opened by singing 0 Canada followed by prayer led by Mrs. Stewert Ament, Mrs. Lapp gave a few opening remarks and the minutes were accepted as read by the secretary, Mrs. George Schneider. The correspondence was read and the roll call was answered by each member giving money for their britbday dates. The November meeting was planned to be held at the home of Mrs, Ariel Duizer and will be a quilting or a bake sale. The program will be in charge of Mrs. Henry Hunking and Mrs. Leonard Archambault. The lunch will be in charge of Mrs. Roy Daer and Mrs. Ted Hunking. The tickets were sold on the lovely braided mat made by Mrs. A. Duizer and Mrs. James Jackson was the holder of the winning ticket. Twenty dollars was realized from these sales and this money goes to telp support the Korean Child. The program for the evening was in charge of Mrs. Stewart Ament and Mrs. Thomas Cunningham. Mrs. Ament gave a Hallowe'en reading and interesting program of games were carried out. A delicious lunch was served by the hostess, Mrs. Garth McClinchey, Mrs. Leonard Archambault and Mrs. Henry Hunking. We are pleased to report that Mrs. Maitland Allen was able to come home from Clinton Hospital last Friday after being there a patient for over a week. Obituary MISS ANNIE M, CLARK Funeral services were held at the Arthur Funeral Home for Miss Annie M. Clark of 204 St. Clair Ave. W. Toronto on Monday November 2nd. Born on September 9, 1877 at St. Helens. 'She was the daughter of the late Peter Clark and Annie M,cKenzie. Miss Clark was a school teacher for many years. She is survived by four sisters and one brother, Mrs. Marvin (Mary) McDowell, Westfield, Mrs. Alex (Margaret) MacLennan, Chicago, Mrs. W. (Lilian) Mackintosh, Toronto, Miss Canna, Toronto and Donald of Ottawa, Pastor Alfred Fry conducted the services with burial taking place in Greenhill Cemetery, Lucknow. Pallbearers were Harvey McDowell, Graeme McDowell, Ernest Mackintosh, Douglas Mackintosh, Earl Howes and Earl Martyn. Friends and relatives were present from Toronto, Chicago. and Ottawa and the surrounding district. '4-H activities The sixth meeting of the Happy Hearts 4-H club was held at the home of Mrs. Donald Haines. The president Jean Hardy was in charge of the meeting which opened with the 4-H Pledge. The roll call was answered by each member telling of "a fault in my posture". A discussion followed on the eating of proper food and the right posture by the leaders, Mrs. Thomas Haggitt and Mrs. Haines. Several girls demonstrated proper posture and a get well card was signed for a fellow club member, Donna Chamney who is a patient in Wingham Hospital. Mr. George Lawlor is visiting with members of his family in Galt. Mr. and Mrs. John Weir and Mrs. Elsie Eustace of London spent the weekend in the village. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Haggitt of Richmond Hill spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Haggitt and brother, Mr. Stephen Haggitt. Mrs. Gordon Taylor spent the past weekend with her daughter, Mrs. Ronald RathWell, Mr. Rathwell, Michael and Janice at Chatham. Declines were recorded in all the major parts of the world, with the exception of Asia and Oceania. In Oceania, where Australia continues as the world'S largest sheep producer, .numbers at 242.0 million head were up 3.2 per cent, The North American sheep flock dropped 1.6 per cent in 1969 to 30.4 million head, while numbers totalled 124.6 million in South America, down 1.4 per cent. He also showed pictures of type setting etc. At times, when a break occurs to the complicated equipment, expert attention is needed and sometimes has to come from experienced mechanics outside the staff. It all goes to show how much knowledge and work goes into the printing of a newspaper. The President thanked Mr. Roulston for taking time out for an interesting discourse, Grace was sung and a dainty lunch served by the hostesses. Mrs. Townsend spent a few days last week visiting with friends at Woodham. • The Hall Board held their first eucher party on Friday evening with seven tables in play.
