Friday night's JUnior D
hockey game has been
designated as the official
opening of the Junior hockey
season in Clinton.
The Clinton Juniors, a new
entry in the OHA Western
Junior I) league this year, will
be playing their second home
game of the schedule against
Mitchell Hawks, a team they
beat 16-8 in exhibition play
earlier.
Mayor Don Symons will be
on hand for the official faceoff
at 8:30. Members of the team
will be introduced to the
audience.
The • club executive has
planned several added
attractions to make the hockey
games just that more
interesting for the fans this
(year, It is hoped to have
programs available soon. Each
program will be numbered and
it draw for the lucky program
number will be held each ;light.
The winner of the draw will
have a chance to pick up a cash
jackpot if he cart were a goal
through a hole in a plywood
board in front of the net. The
jackpot will build up if the
winners are unable to score.
Three-star selections will
also be made each game by a
committee headed by Russ
Archer.
The fans attending the game
will have a chance to choose a
name for the new squad, now
simply called the Juniors. The
club's new blue and white
Uniforms are expected to be on

Bill Crawford had given

added to the lead in the second
with unassisted goals.
Both teams seemed tight in
the first period and the play was
scrambly. In the second Clinton
seemed to emerge from this shell
a little, led by Mustard who
started to skate hard and let his
shots go sooner rather than hold
back as had been a problem in
the first period.

went to Arthur, Craw ford,
Derwin Carter and Cameron for
Clinton and Comfort and Davis
for Lambeth.
While the game was relatively
clean on the ice, things were
rougher in the stands, where a
couple of drunken fans tried to
attack Lambeth players in
penalty box.
Only strong action by timer
Bruce Collins and the
intervention of Harvey Carter
and Russ Archer kept a major
altercation from taking place.
It's the ldnd of thing that will
have to be eliminated in the
future or the team could find
itself being booted right out of
the league.

The local Community Centre is a hive of activity these days
as all hockey clubs prepare for the upcoming season,
Friday night the new entry an the OHA Western Junior D
loop made a very impressive home debut in their 4-1 victory
over Exeter. The Recreation Committee are to be commended
, for their show of leadership in sponsoring this new team and if
coach Bill Weber can keep the boys flying like last Friday
night, the arena is going to be filled to capacity before the
season is over.

With the advent of Junior hockey, comes new interest in the
Midget and Bantam age boys. Coaches Tom Clapp and , Bob

opportunity to see both the Midgets and the Bantams playing
on Saturday evening, November 7 in a double-header against
two Detroit teams.
New team sweaters have been purchased by the Lions
which, with the help of the local BP dealers and the walkathon
last spring, will see the club completely suited out in new
sweaters, pants and socks this year. New green helmets will be
purchased shortly to complete the all-green outfit.

Boys from 6-12 years of age can still register in the Kinsmen
' hockey program. The weekly Saturday afternoon program is
under way under the leadership of Ken Clynick (peewee), Jim
Arnold (squirt) and Bert Clifford, (weewees). The emphasis is
on learning hockey with skiting for the weewees, passing,
stickhandling and carrying the puck in squirt and positional
play in peewees being stressed to all youngsters.
After the boys have been divided into teams, a portion of
the time alloted each week will be spent in two games and a
half hour instruction 'period. Every Tuesday evening
instructional hockey will be held for the squirts from 5:30 to
6::30 and for peewees from 6:30 to 7..30.
The Colts appear to be heading for a better season this year,
with several new young players trying for the team. Manager
Newyt Collins reports the team has decided to enter the OHA
this season with Seaforth, Milverton and Crediton definite
entries so far. For the past two seasons the Colts have played
in the WOAA Intermediate C League but the travelling to
Wiarton, Arthur and Kincardine did not meet with the players'
approval (as evidenced by the fact only nine players showed
up for one trip to Wiarton last year.
Speaking of the WOAA, this Thursday night, October 29 is
the annual WOAA hockey meeting. Zone 1 clubs comprising
Goderich, Clinton, Seaforth, Mitchell, Hensall, Zurich,
Adastral Park, Huron Park and Grand Bend met early in
September and elected Bert Clifford as their convener for the
season. A new proposal for playoffs will be voted on at this
meeting.
