The Bayfield Council met in
the Municipal Building on
MondaY, October 5, at 7:30
p.m. all members Present,
A resolution was passed that a
formal request be made to the
Ontario Provincial Police to take
av er the policing of the village of
Bayfield.
John Lindsay was also
re-appointed as by-law
enforcement officer in the
village.
It was noted that' between
May and September the 0.P.P.
investigated 115 request tails in
the village, over and above their
regular visits.
By-law No, 64 was passed
which would regulate traffic in
the village of Bayfield, and to
control and regulate the use of
streets and boulevards in the
village.
Approval of this By-law by
the .department of transport is
being requested by the council.
Dr. Ivan G. Smillie of
Kamloops B.C. and Mr. Elgin
Rowcliffe of Hensall visited with
Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Hill on
Sunday. Dr. Smillie practised
medicine in Hensall some years
ago.
The second meeting of the
Bayfield 4-H Safety-ettes club
was held at the home of Mrs.
Jack Merner on September 29.
Miss Valerie Merner conducted
the meeting. The roll call was
answered with the name of "a
book I would like to own."
A short discussion and notes
were taken on the subject "Make
Leisure a Pleasure".
The club was invited to a
safety film and demonstration in
Holmesville on October 5.
Each girl did a sample of huck
weaving for the record book.
Prof. and Mrs. H. K.
Kalbfleisch entertained the
Council of Redeemer Lutheran
Church of London and their
wives on Sunday October 4, at
their house on Chiniquy Street.
Pastor of the church is Rev.
Godfrey Oelsner.
Miss Mary Elizabeth Ervine of
Stratford and Mr, Robert Myer,
of Milverton visited her parents

Parents Mr- and Mrs. Ken
Merrier, with a dinner at the
Dominion Hotel, Zurich, on the
occasion of their 35th wedding
anniversary.
On Saturday October 3 the
Bayfield Commimity Centre was
the setting for a surprise party,
honouring Mr. and Mrs. John
Lindsay on the occasion of their
'25th wedding anniversary. Some
80 friends and neighbours
gathered to express their good
wishes.
On behalf of those present,
Reeve E. W. Oddleifson
presented the couple with a
money tree, a living room chair,
and other gifts. •
Mr, and Mrs. John Lindsay
were married in Bayfield on
October 2, 1945; by Rev. F. G.
Stotesbury and have lived in
Bayfield all their lives.
Mr. Lindsay is the Village
Road Superintendant.
Mr. and Mrs. John Lindsay
were pleasantly surprised on
September 25 when Mr.
Lindsay's sisters called and
presented them with a silver tea
service from the Lindsay family.
On October 2, 'a 25th
anniversary dinner was held for
Mr. and Mrs. John Lindsay at
the Bedford Hotel, Goderich.
With Mr. and Mrs. Lindsay
were Mr. and Mrs. James
Butcher, George and Donald
Lindsay, Misses Catherine Hunt,
and Wibbina Bylsma and Mr. and
Mrs. Ken Merrier. Mr. Merner'
was the groomsman 25 years
ago.
Mrs. LeRoy Poth has sent me
some little gems from old
newspaper files concerning
Bayfield.
April 28, 1868 — The shores
of Lake Huron in the
neighbourhood of Bayfield were
visited by a tornado which swept
inland with amazing velocity.
December 15, 1884 — At the
council meeting the tender of
Mr, Reid, tinsmith, for six lamps
to be placed on Main Street, was
accepted.
Mr. Frank Spence provincial
field executive for the Boy
Scouts of Canada is making
Bayfield his headquarters this
week. He is holding meetings
throughout the district trying to
promote adult enthusiasm for
scouting in this area.
, A meeting was held in
Bayfield with Mr, Spence on
Tuesday night attended by six
interested adults from Bayfield,
four from Dashwood and one
from Exeter.
A dinner will be field at the
Bayfield Community Centre on
October 29 to select a district
Commissioner for Huron
District.
New outlet
A second outlet for the
Clinton News-Record has been
added in hayfield. With the
closing of Utter's General Store,
the News-Record will now be on
sale at both the Village Market
and Graham's General Store.

The Clintonian club held their
October meeting at the home of
Mrs. Viola Lampman on Friday,
October 2.
The president, Mrs. Hartley
Managhan, opened the meeting
with the housewife's creed,
followed by the Lord's prayer in
unison.
Seventeen members, and two
visitors, were present.
The minutes of the last
meeting were read and adopted,
The treasurer read her report
which was passed and five
dollars were given to the
Muscular Dystrophy.
Final arrangements were made
for the bus trip on October 6 to
Collingwood. It was decided to
have the birthday banquet on
November 25 at the Presbyterian
Church.
Club meets
Mrs. Margaret Thorndike, Mrs.
Viola Lampman and Mrs.
Hartley Managhan were chosen
nominating committee to bring
in a new slate of officers for the
coming year.
Mrs. Esther Kendall and Mrs.
Viola Lamprnan, read some very
interesting poems of Edgar
Guest's.
Mrs. Connie Colclough, and
Mrs. Russell Colclough, won the
Mystery Prizes. Mrs. Moodie and
Mrs. Thorndike won the Dutch
Auction articles. The next
meeting is to be at Mrs. Elmer
Frey's on November 5.
Birthday cake and ice cream
will be served.
The meeting closed with the
Mizpah Benediction after which
lunch was served by the lunch
committee.
