Immaculate Conception School
In Stratford.. The Personnel
Committee was authorized to
hire a part time caretaker for St.
Ambrose whop' in Stratford at
the approved caretaker's salary
schedule.
R.S. Box, from whom the
board rents the board offices in
Seaforth, is to be asked to have a
coat of chipstone put on the
parking lot.
The annual
teacher-trustee banquet is to be
held at Huron Park, Centralia,

Trustee Arthur Haid,
chairman of transportation
committee, is having a meeting
of his committee members on
October 5 to consider a larger
bus at Ste. Marie School, St.
Joseph,
The board accepted the
tender of Ross Scott Ltd.,
Brucefield, to supply No. 2 fuel
oil to all schools using oil at 14.9
cents per `gallon, which is .5
cents less than last year. His was
one of nine tenders.
The Board accepted the
tender from Stewart Brothers,
Seaforth, to deliver and install
drapes for all the portable
classrooms at $85.00 per unit
within two to three weeks.
Jack Lane, Business
Administrator, was given
approval to have private
telephone lines installed to all
schools in Huron-Perth separate
school system. At present' four
schools are on multi-party lines.

pointed out that this scheme was
devised locally and was not a
direct result of new assessment
methods.
Bill Elston, Morris, said
withholding education taxes was
a poor method to use to get
things changed.
- "It is not going to get what
we want," observed Elston.
"Taxes on farms have been very
unfair since high school districts
were first formed. I know of one
farmer who is paying as much
education tax as the whole
village of Beigrave. What can we
do? I don't know, but we must
do something. We've been
pressed into bigger and bigger
farms and the education tax is
going to kill us."

completed a study of education
taxes for the past 100 years. He

Committee advised council of an
upcoming meeting to review
county insurance policies with
an eye to dropping the
"kick-back" to local insurance
agencies.
Exeter Reeve Derry Boyle
suggested the county should call
tenders for insurance in the
county and, he was backed up in

we are going to remove the
rebates to our local insurance
agents."
At the present time, the
Frank,. • Cowan Insurance
Company handles all the county
insurance. Rebates to county
insurance agents amount to
about $3,000 annually.
"In other words, our
premium should come down by
$3,000," said John Berry,
clerk-treasurer.
Berry also outlined the
difficulties to be met if the
county would tender for
insurance coverage. Warden Roy
Westcott indicated the extra
costs could offset the savings.
Attention was drawn,
however, to the eventual savings

on Saturday.

Mr, and Mrs. Carl Beranek of
Denver, Colorado, recently visited
Mrs. Beranek's sister, Miss Emma
Snell, and her brother, Milton
Johnston, in Clinton.
They left for home on
September 21, going by way of
North Dakota and Montana to
visit friends. It is 45 years since
Marg Johnston left Clinton to
live in the United States

appointed Grand

Mrs. Florence Symons of
Clinton was installed Friday as
Grand Organist of the Grand
Chapter of Ontario, Order of the
EaStern Star.
The installation took place as
the Order held sessions at the
Royal York Hotel in Toronto.
The appointment marks the
first time an officer of the Grand
Chapter has come from this area.
The office is for the duration of
one year and will mean
considerable travelling all over
the province to play at official
functions.
Automation has not really

John Vintar reported that an
exploratory meeting on religious
education in Roman Catholic
schools in Huron and Perth
Counties was held to .examine
the existing cateehetical
programs in. the schools.
Bailey estimated that about
75 to 80 percent of the farmers
in the townships of Goderich,
West Wawanosh, Tumberry,
Hullett and Morris had indicated
they would withhold their
education taxes this fall.
"Do you want a revolution?"
asked Reeve Campbell.
"Farmers are the most
unrevolutionary group I know of
in Ontario," retorted Bailey,
"but there could be a revolution
yet."

From the discussion it. was
concluded that the Canadian
Catechism program in the
schools could only succeed With
the active co-operation of the
home, the school, and the
.church. Subsequent meetings:
will address themselves to
exploring in greater detail the
contribution to be made by the
family, the ' teachers and the
Clergy.
The board approved a motion
that the services of Miss Frances
Conway, Religious Education
Consultant, be requested from
St. Joseph's Parish Council,
Stratford, for half time in the
schools in the Stratford area
from October 1, 1970, to end of
June, 1971.

Garrett of Stratford was at the
meeting to present his almost
completed documented record
of thel9 separate schools in
Huron and Perth Counties. His
report includes pictures of the
...interiors and exteriors of each
school, a record of boundaries,
- the ,makeup of acreage, such as
paved play areas, etc; lists of
areas and sizes of all rooms;
quality of heating,
ventilation, etc; a list of
requirements needed, the capital

The monthly meeting of the.
Catholic Women's League was
held in, the parish hall September
28 with 22 members present.
The president Mrs. Helen
Leduc opened the meeting with
the league prayer. Plans were
made for the Knights of
Columbus dinner which is to be
held in the parish hall Sunday,
October 18 and also for the
rummage sale which is to be held
on October 24.
The ladies to look after the
Altar for the month of October
are Mrs. Betty Doherty and Mrs.
Dane Kay. Visiting will be Miss
Lucy Levy and Mary Sharp.
