Baptismal Service was
observed on Sunday morning
when the following infants were

an impressive message "The
meaning of Baptism".
Anniversary Service will be

Visitors with Mrs. Harold
Livingstone on Friday were her
brother Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Steel

Mr. and Mrs. Earl Gaunt
spent a few days last week with
their son and family in Hanover.
Miss. Ann Fairservice left on
Wednesday to start a new job in
Woodstock interviewing people
interested in Arts and Crafts ,if
enough people are found to be
interested , a new craft centre
may result.

and family visited with Mr. and
Mrs. Roy Crich of Tavistock on
Sunday.
Miss Sharee Kennedy has
been chosen to represent Huron
County 4-H Homemaking clubs
at the Western Fair Friday,
September 18. There are
seventeen other girls going from
Huron County. The girls from
Huron and other counties will be
guests of the Western Fair
Association at a banquet in the
evening at "Top of the Fair"
Clubhouse dining room from
where they will be able to view
the evening Grandstand Show.
Miss Barbara Burns left last
Week to take a six-week course
in surgery in Chatham returning
afterwards to St. Joseph's in
London, Pat Burns has
transfered to Grace Hospital in
'Toronto from London.

Funeral services were held at
the Beattie Funeral Home on
Saturday, September 12, 1970,
at 2;30 p.m. with, the Rev. D.
Beck and , the Rev, Victor
Cornish, both of Bayfield,
Officiating, Burial was in
Bayfield Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John, Rick

Mark Rathwell,, .and David
Beach., Flowerbearers were

WILBER ALEXANDER WELSH
A life-long resident of
Clinton, Wilber Alexander
Welsh, passed away in Clinton
Public Hospital on Sunday,
September 6th, 1970 following a
three year illness. He was in his
71st year. Born in Clinton on
July 16th, 1900, he was a son of
the late Robert Welsh and Jane
Johnston. On August 31st, 1922
• he married the former Flossie
May Whitmore, who survives
him.
As a young man of fourteen,
he entered apprenticeship at the
Sherlock-Manning piano factory
as an action man and fine
regulator and continued with the
firm in that capacity until illness
forced his retirement three years
ago.
Mr. Welsh took a keen
interest in his community and
was interested in politics, both
locally and nationally. He served
for many years on the Clinton
School Board, and, being an avid
member of Ontario Stredt
United Church, served in the_
capacity of steward for_ several
years, along with various other
church committees. A lover of
animals, and in particular horses,
he was a charter member of the
Clinton Turf Club and this year
received an honorary
membership in the association.
The many beautiful floral
tributes and donations to the
Canadian Cancer Society served
as a silent tribute for the esteem
with which he was held in• his
community.
Surviving besides his
sorrowing wife is one daughter,
Lenora, Mrs. Thomas Murphy,
of Arva; also three
grandchildren, Jo Anne, Mrs.
Paul Trudgen, Michael and Paul
Murphy, all of Arva. Mr. Welsh
was predeceased by three
brothers and one sister.
The funeral service was held
at the Ball Funeral Home, High
Street, Clinton, on Tuesday,
September 8th, at 2 p.m.,
conducted by The Rev. H. W.
Wonfor, minister of the Ontario
Street United Church. Burial

who survives, Other survivors
include one son, Raymond and
-one daughter, Mrs, Richard
(Suszann) Rice, both of Detroit;
and three grandchildren..
Funeral service was Saturday,
September 12 at Stiles Funeral
Home with Rev. E. J, B,
Harrison of Trinity Anglican
Church in Bayfield officiating.
Inteiment was- in Bayfield
Cemetery, Pallbearers were Fred
Weston, George Clark and Russ
Davison, all of Bayfield, And Art
Peters, John Bezyak and Fred
Rozelle, all of Detroit.
KURT VAN RIESEN
Kurt Van Riesen, 183 Albert
Street, Clinton died in Clinton
Public Hospital on September 6,
1970. He was 68 years of'age.
Born in Danzig, Germany on
June 4, 1902 he was the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Van
Riesen. Since moving to Canada
he lived in Carstairsi Alberta/ as
well as Clinton for the past 19
years.
He married Elsie Williams in
1936. For many years he was a
member of the civil service
before retiring. He was a
member of Wesley-Willis United
Church and a member of the
Independent Order o-f
Oddfellows, Clinton.
Surviving besides his wife are
two sons, Robert of Clinton and
Kenneth of Toronto and a
daughter, Heather of London
and four grandchildren.

Tuesday September 8 at 8 p,m,
The Sunday School was
tastefully decorated with red
geraniums and roses to open the
fall term.
The meeting was opened by
singing Kum 13a Yah. Mrs.
Mowatt and Mrs. Oliver were
delegates to Alma College in
August and they took charge of
Devotions which they built
around the highlights of the
conference, assisted by Mrs.
Norman Holland, Mrs. Beattie
also attended Alma College for
one day and gave a splendid
report. All these reports were
enjoyed. The devotions closed
with Mrs. Mowatt leading in
prayer and the hymn "How
Great Thou Art."
Mrs. Beattie' then took the
chair and conducted the business
and opened with a Poem "A
Happy Heart". The offering was
taken and dedicated,
Many reports were read. Mrs.
Livermore read the
correspondence and also the
minutes of the June Executive
meeting.
Mrs. Mowatt and Mrs. Oliver
thanked the U.C.W. for the
privilege of being delegates to
Alma College. Hymn 128 was
sung and Mrs. Beattie closed
with prayer.
A social time and a cup of tea
was then enjoyed.

former resident of Bayfield and
has lived in Goderich since
November 1969,
She was married to Capt. R.
L. MacMillen who predeceased
'ber May 5, 1968.
Survivors include her
daughter, Mrs, J. E, (Margaret)
Mayman, Bayfield; one
grandson, Jeffery Mayman; and
two sisters, Mrs. Harry
(Elizabeth) Dean, London, and
Mrs. Robert (Elsie) Heard,
London.
Funeral service was
Wednesday, September 16, at
the McCallum Funeral Home
with Rev. Robert Clark
officiating.
Interment was in Bayfield
