Gordon Moir, Wingham, cautioned board members that if they vetoed some of the books, they would be the ones most sought after by students. "I think it is a mistake," Ellibtf, terArked. Conestoga College introduces new credit system this September Students no longer need repeat a year of their lives. Students may now be promoted on the basis of credits, for each course without having to repeat a whole year due to unsuccessful courses. The Technology Division of the Doon Centre of Conestoga College is introducing the course credit system this September to all its programs. This sytem of credits for individual causes within a total program enables the, faster student to become qualified in a shorter period of time and allows the slower. student to proceed more at his own rate, It also provides for unique programming for individual students. Because of its flexibility, the course credit system reduces the number of drop outs. It increases the success rate among students while at the same time it permits raising the already high standards of technological education. KELLER When it came to approving literature books to be purchased for Huron County schools, vice-chairman Robert Elliott, G oder ich Township, was opposed to some selections — and was the only board member who voted against approving the entire list as presented. The list included such books hs'ThVGiddhate" and Tom Tones' time in the• secondary" sefthoig County. Director of education, John D. Cochrane, told the board these books would be for "extensive reading" to be read "out of class". He indicated the students would probably be reading the books anyway since they can be attained at the public libraries and, in book stores, etc. Elliott insisted it was a little different for the students to go out and get the books from other sources. He wondered if it was wise to give the impression that the Huron County Board of Education approved of this type of reading for young people. Mr. Cochrane explained that the law requires that the•board of education approve the list of books to be purchased for J01.1••••••41•111•1111., $CRYIK.-41NT.QN.
