The scenic, rural setting of the

The ladies provided a

Enrolment distribution by
grade in Huron County is
:lire with other COMpgitive
figures, john D. COchrane,
director of ,education told
members of Huron County
Beard of Edneaticel Monday
evening in Clinton,
He said the average size of the
elementary schools in Huron is
slightly below average in the
proving: but that the class size
here- tends to the "high side" at
.an .average of 29,0 pupils per
teaching area.
"This trend should be
watched, closely," advised
Cochrane,
As well, the average number
of pupils per teacher tends to be
high but may level off this year
with the addition of remedial
teachers in several schools.
Huron County is "light" in the
percentage of pupils receiving
special education.
At the secondary school level,
noted Cochrane, it appears
evident that as many pupils are
not remaining for Grade 13 as
might be expected. A further
study in thiS area is indicated,
Cochrane said.
"At 19.0, the average number
of pupils per teaching area
indicates ample accommodation
in our secondary schools,"
Cochrane went on. "At 17.6, the
number of pupils per teacher
tends to the high side. Provincial
trends should be re-examined
before the 1971 hiring season
opens."
"Generally, F feel that the
Huron County School System is
in a satisfactory position on any
of the comparison charts used in
this report," Mr. Cochrane
concluded.
James Coulter,
superintendent of education,
presented a report about a
seminar for school
administrators he had attended
at McArthur College earlier this
month.
He told the board of 20 new
methods being tried in schools
throughout the province,
including such things as
individual student timetables,
credit system, development of
the House System, change in
attendance procedures,
semestering, use of
paraprofessionals, etc..
11e-.indicated all -these things
were the principal's choice.
Parents! Motor vehicle
collisions are the greatest single
cause of death and injuries for
infants and children.
Whenever your child rides in
the family car, make sure he's
properly protected by a
restraining device. In a sudden
stop or crash situation, an
unrestrained child can easily be
hurled against the windshield or
instrument panel . .. or even in a
minor collision, he can be
thrown out of the car.
Children should always be
placed in the rear seat and never
allow a child to stand or kneel
on any seat. Don't let your child
be an unrestrained flying object .
. make sure he's always
protected with a restraining
device.
