Walkerburn. ..„ -Club The Walkerburn Club held the monthly meeting at the home of Mrs-John Hallam last week with a good attendance. Mrs. Ted Hunking was in charge and opened the meeting. Mrs. George Schneider led in prayer. Roll call was answered by paying fees. Mrs. Elliott Lapp read the minutes and the financial statement was given by Mrs. Tom Cunningham.. The prize donated by Mrs. Lloyd Penfound was won by Miss Shirley Hunking. Plans were made to hold the annual picnic and Mrs. George Schneider invited the club to hold it at her home. Everyone is to bring a picnic lunch and the program will be in charge • of Misses Brenda and Arva Ball, Brenda Archalnbault, Nan Lapp, Shirley Hunking, Bernice Hunking, Vaughan ,Hunking and Louise Flunking. The program was in the charge of Mrs, George Schneider and Mrs. James Jacksbn. A trio composed of Mrs. George Schneider,Mrs, W. Hunter and Mrs. E, Lpp sang two nunibers accompanied by Mrs. James Jackson. The History of Walkerburn was told by Miss Margaret Jackson and a question period followed. Mrs. George Schneider read a poem written by the late Mrs. Alex Manning. • A bake sale with Mrs. Ted Hunking in charge was a great success. The election of officers took place. Those elected were President Mrs. Lorne Hunking; Vice-president, Mrs, Joe Flunking; secretary, Mrs. Elliott Lapp; assistant secretary, Mrs, George Schneider; treasurer, Mrs. Thomas Cunningham, and pianist Mrs. James Jackson. several pretty pictures on display. Gifts to the Leaders of the 4-H Club in appreciation of their work with the girls were presented to Mrs. Gail Lear, Mrs, Florence Snell, Mrs. Hattie Snell, Mrs. Watkins and Mrs. Alice Buchanan. Friends of Danny Lear will be sorry to learn that he had the misfortune to break a bone in his leg recently. He will be in a cast for sometime, which deprives him of taking part in the sports he delights in. Morning Glories meet WESLEY-WILLIS UCW The June meeting of the Morning Glories was held at the home of Donna Woods with 16 members present. The ladies of the Ontario Street Church morning group were welcomed to the meeting by the unit leader Mary Helen Clifford. A short worship service, conducted by Mrs. Wood, was held, with both groups participating. Each group then retired to hold their .business meeting. Ruby Haddy will now be social convener for the group, and Kay Wise volunteered to be - visiting convener. The treasurer reported a • successful Theatre Night, and the .visiting, convener. reported .1 nine hospital ant:1,one horde, 41., The ladies then' joined together outside where Mrs. Clifford conducted the Chinese Auction which was enjoyed by everyone. Lunch was in charge of Marie McDonald. Miss Agnes HaverkamP daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Haverkamp of RR I, Clinton, has igraduated from Stratford's Teachers College. Agnes has accepted a position in the Dutch Christian Reform School in Sarnia. Clintonian Club` The Clintonian Club held their July meeting at the home of Mrs. Russell Colclough on Thursday afternoon July 2. In the absence of the President the meeting was presided over by the first vice-president, j Mrs, Frank Cummings. Meeting opened with the housewifps creed followed by the Lord's Prayer in unison. Nineteen answered roll call by naming their favorite summer flower. The treasurer read her report and also a full financial report on the quilt recently raffled off and won by Mrs. Muriel Robinson of London. An interesting contest by Mrs. T. M. Falconer caused lots of fun and laughs. There was discussions on two bus trips with final arrangments to be made at August meeting. i The Dutch auction followed with the lucky winners being Mrs. M. Glazier and Mrs. E. Finley. Next meeting to be held at Mrs. Ruth Mulhollands home on Thursday afternoon, August 6 at 2:00 p.m. The meeting closed with the Mizpah Benediction after which lunch was served by the lunch committee. Patricia Martin, R.R. 3, Goderich received injuries. NO COFFEE As an antidote to alcoholic impairment, black coffee tastes and smells good, but that's about all. The Ontario Safety League says that coffee has no effect whatsoever on alcohol in the body. It is a mild stimulant, but taken to counteract drowsiness, its effect is only slight, and transient. It does nothing to improve a driver's judgment, perception, reaction or vision. lb. 59c lb. 98c lb. 69c News of Londesboro BY MRS, BERT ALLEN Mr. and Mrs, Bert Brunsdon celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on July 1, at Westminster Hospital where Mr. Brunsdon is a patient. Twenty-three guests attended. On July 2 Mrs. Brunsdon and her daughter held open house in Londesboro for friends and relatives who could not attend in London. Over 90 guests extended congratulations. Friends attended from Ottawa, Toronto, Mount Forest, Goderich, Clinton; Blyth, Varna and Dallas, Texas. Many beautiful gifts were received including folding chairs from the village neighbors. Mr. and Mrs. Brunsdon were married in Moose Jaw, Sask., July 1, 1920 by Rev, Reade. They moved to Yorkton, Sask. residing there until 1930.
