Sunday, the Ponies scored in
each inning en route to a 18.8
rout.
M. Nicholson struck out five
batters and allowed only one hit
in three innings. The Mitchell All
Stars scored four runs in the
fifth inning 'when the Ponies
made four errors.
Nicholson had two singles
while Steve Cook, Irwin and D.
Clynick also had singles.
Greg Butler hit a grand slam
homer in the third inning.
Next home game is Thursday,
July 9, at the Public School at
6:30 p.m.
In the fourth inning Orioles
struck for four more runs in the
fifth when Colquhoun hit a
grand slam homerun. The
Orioles added four more in the
fifth when Colquhoun and Shea
hit successive singles.
John Hart, after allowing two
hits in the first inning, did not
allow a hit in the final four
innings and walked only two.

PHOEBE N
Mrs. William Nickle of
Huronview died Saturday, June
27, at Huronview. She was 88
years of age.
• Born Phoebe Charrette, the
daughter of Benjamin and
Mathilda Charrette of Drysdale,
Ontario, on March 12, 1882, she
married Luke Nigh on November
3, 1898. He died on November
1, 1943.
On January 11, 1947, she
married John Nickle who
predeceased her on May 10,
1955. Mrs. Nickle lived in
Seaforth for some time and was
a resident of Clinton for 18
years, nine of them at
Huronview.
She was, a member of Sti
Joseph Roman Catholic Church,
Clinton.
She is survived by four
daughters, Mrs. Peter J. (Tillie)
Hicknell, Kitchener; Mrs. Mable
Sutherland, Galt; Mrs. Frank
(Mary) Henderson, Niagara Falls;
and Mrs. Philip (Dorene) Fisher,
Niagara Falls.
Four sons, Ambrose Nigh of
Thorold, William Nigh of
Mississauga, Peter Nigh of
'Islington
'
and Edward Nigh of
London, also survive.
Two sons, ExiOr Nigh of
Buffalo and Sylvester Nigh of
Sudbury and one daughter, Mrs.
Thomas (Agnes) Hicknell,
predeceased her.
Twenty-five grandchildren, 42
great grandchildren and one
great; great grandchild survive, as
well as two sisters; Mrs. Fred
Siemon of Zurich and Mrs.
Arreond Denenanie of Zurich.
Funeral services Were held
June 29 from Staciseph Church,
CI inton, after funeral
artangennerits by the, Beattie
Funeral Home.
Internient was in St„ James
Cemetery, Seaforth.

The Yankees jumped to a 2-1
lead on successive hits by L.
Riehl and T. Gordner. However
the Orioles came back in the
second inning, scoring four runs,
and never looked back.
P. Galachiuk hit a triple and
was then driven in by T.
Colquhoun. Dave Shea and R.
Blake also hit singles to drive in
the final runs of the inning.
The Ponies, Clinton's Peewee
baseball club, won a
home-and-home series with
Mitchell by clobbering them
15-7 and 18-8.
In Mitchell the Ponies built up
a 4-1 lead until the fourth inning
when they scored 10 runs with
all batters hitting safely and
scoring. Dave Bartliff was the
winning pitcher, striking out five
UCW meets
The June meeting of Ontario
Street U.C.W. Evening Unit was
held at the home of Mrs. Alvin
Lobb, Centralia.
Mrs. Ross Trewartha and her
group were in charge of
devotions.
Mrs. Geo. Wright gave an
account of the 'Weekend for
Women" at Westminster College,
London which she attended as a
delegate.
After some contests and
games hot dogs were served by
Mrs. Frank Potter and her group
assisting the hostess.
Mrs. Cecil Elliott moved a
vote of thanks to Mrs. Lobb for
a most enjoyable evening.
Midgets win

The local Liops Midgets
*WWII their league lead with
two More wins this past week.
In the Wednesday night game
with Pashwood, both teams
Played heads-up ball and Clinton
came qut on top with a 3-1
victory.
Steve Switzer won Ids third
game of the year with a
three-hitter and Str,lek put five.
Only six men reached first base,
three by hits, three by errors.
The game took only one how
to Play. Clinton took advantage
of two errors on throws to
second during stealing attempts.
Ron Graham Dave Fawcett and.
Tom Murch scared for the
Lions.
In Huron Park the next night
the boys had to play on a
softball field with fences only
230 feet from home plate, Dave
Fawcett hit two over and Ron
Graham and Danny Colquhoun
also hit homers in the 15.4
victory.
Ron Graham pitched his first
game as a starter and allowed
three runs. Dave Fawcett
relieved Graham and gave up one
Girls win, lose
CI inton juvenile ladies'
softball team won a game and
lost a game in the past week.
On Tuesday June 23 the girls
were at home to Houston but
refused to be good hostesses and
sent Houston home after a 14-12
beating. Clinton exploded in the
sixth inning with seven runs by
seven straight batters.
Joyce Neilons led the Clinton
attack with four singles and
Sandra Fremlin who also
pitched, hammered a double,
two singles and a home run.
Marlene Cunningham
contributed two singles and a
homer. Dianne Cunningham
shared pitching duties.
TAVISTOCK 9 — CLINTON 8
The girls went to Tavistock
Saturday and led until the sixth
inning when the home team
scored four runs to take a 9-8
win.
A big problem for Clinton was
that they couldn't bring runners
home. Eleven runners were left
stranded in the seven-inning
game.
Sandra Fremlin handled the
pitching. Joyce Neilons was
again the big gun at bat hitting
two doubles and collecting two
walks in four times at bat. She
was left stranded each time.
Over 200 fans enjoyed a
well-played ball game at the
Community Park on Sunday
afternoon between the Corunna
Giants and the Clinton Colts.
Archie Pickett hurled a
four-hitter, striking out eight.
His pitching grew stronger as the
game progressed. He faced only
12 batters in the final four
innings.
Corunna's Peters wrapped a
single in the sixth but a double
play by Colquhoun, Barry
Mutrie and Ed Daer erased the
runner. Corunna scored their
lone run in the third on
hack-to-back hits.
Clinton had 11 hits with
Laurie Colquhoun hitting a
double and a single. Don Bartliff
went three for three and scored
behind Laurie Colquhoun in the
third to put Clinton ahead 3-1.
Ed Daer scored in the second off
Stu Mustard's single. Pickett

fifth with a timely single into his"
wrong field.
The Squirt baseball
champions for 1970 are the
Orioles who clobbered the
Yankees 13-3 in the league final
last Thursday.
Colts win
In a wild fifth inning, Laurie
Colquhoun scored but the run
was nullified because Don
Bartliff had failed to announce
himself as a replacement for Ken
Daer.
Ed Daer pitched for six
innings giving up two hits then
left-hander Dutot took over
allowing four runners, all on
walks, in the last three innings.

Homeruns and tough pitching
helped the Colts to down
Hensall 4-0 last week.
Clinton's Homerun King Ed
Daer won his second game
pitching and belted out a
two-run homer in the fifth, his
fifth in the past four games.
Colts pounded Archey Bedard
for 12 hits including a homer by
Laurie Colquhoun in the fourth,
his second of the season.
Leading Clinton at the plate was
Stu Mustard with three singles in
four at-bats.
Mustard scored on Doc
Miller's single., in. the fifth, then
Miller scored on Deer's home
run. Brad Dutot relieved Daer in
the seventh and walked his first
three batters, then struck out
the side.
