NORMAN LONG At the June Kippen UCW meeting, Mrs. John Cooper presented the worship service, pointing out that each one of us must have faith to go forward even though we do not know the road we may be called upon to travel. Mrs. W. J. F. Bell presided for the business meeting - opening with an adaptation of the "Twenty-third Psalm for Busy People." Minutes were read by Mrs. K. McLellan and roll call was answered by a favourite spring flower. We were all delighted by a trio composed of Misses Debbie Consitt, -Sharon and Sue Ann . Finlayson, accompanied by Mrs. Rose Broadfoot. Plans were discussed for our catering in July and August, and the date of the Church School Picnic was set with Mrs. Ross Broadfoot kindly consenting to complete arrangements at Seaforth Park. Mrs. Laird Finlayson reported that carnations had been delivered to those who had been ill. Mrs. John Anderson reported on the monthly sick visiting that had been done. Mrs. K. McLellan gave the Sunshine report for Mrs. Norman Dickert. Nine cards had been sent out. Mrs. It. Kinsman read the acknowledgements for these. Plans were continued for entertaining in mid-August at the Blue Water Rest Home. Mrs. Ron McGregor, in charge of the topic, showed a film the "Long Road" with commentary, showing the problems and life of the Indian Canadians and pointing, out the great need for understanding and appreciation of their ideas and ideals. Mrs. Edison McLean expressed appreciation ,to all Who had taken part. Mrs. Laird Finlayson tested our biblical knowledge in a contest. The hostesses Mrs. Morley Cooper and Mrs. Ross Love served delicious refreshments. In their annual elections, the Kinette Club of Clinton elected Mrs, Andy Peterson as an Ho no urary member. Mrs. Peterson, a former Kinette, was honoured for her work in the Kinette-sponsored town girls' softball league. She also serves as manager of the Clinton entry in the Ladies' Juvenile League. The Club also elected the following slate of officers to take office July I, 1970: Past President, Mrs. Bob Mann; President, Mrs. Bert Clifford; Vice President, Mrs. Doug Norman; Corresponding Secretary, Mrs..Russ Archer; Recording Secreary, Mrs. Steve Brown; Registrar, Mrs. Paul Kerrigan; Bulletin Editor, Mrs. Graham Bowker; Assistant Bulletin Editor, Mrs. Ron Jewitt, The President welcomed two new members into the Club - Mrs. Tom Clapp, and Mrs. Don Jefferson. Kinsmen Vice-President, Don Hall, came to the meeting to explain what would be involved in running the refreshment booth for the Sunday Horse Races. Discussion followed. Mrs. Paul Kerrigan and Mrs. Dave Conic offered to look into the cost of equipment, shelving and cupboards required for the booth. Mrs. Doug Norman, Mrs. Allan Finch, Mrs. Ron Jewitt and Mrs. Arnold Riley offered to take charge of ordering the food and will locate a supplier. Each Kinette will work three Sundays during the summer. The Club voted to give $15.00 to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The girls softball league 'is running smoothly with Junior r Games being held Tuesday and Thursday after school and the seniors Monday and Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Semi-finals and finals will be held this week. The Club will also help sponsor the Clinton entry in the Ladies' Juvenile League. Kay, Sharp has offered to coach and Mrs. Andy Peterson will act as manager. The Kinettes voted to donate $150 to the Kinsmen to purchase stain for the new bleachers at the park. Work parties are now being held to stain them. At the end , of May the Kinsmen and Kinettes ran the Bingo at the Goderich Psychiatric hospital. On May 25 the Clinton Kinettes joined with the Goderich Kinettes for their meeting. Following dinner an interesting flower arranging, demonstration was given by an employee of Denomme florists. N. T. Ormancly, a Goderich jeweller was then introduced. He spoke on diamonds giving many interesting facts on their history and mining. Plans for the joint Kinsmen-Kinette Dance, the BY MRS. BERT ALLEN The Berean Unit of the U.C.W. met on Tuesday with 16 members present. The President conducted the devotional period. Mrs. Wm. Manning and Mrs. Laura Lyon gave interesting excerpts from the China Pac along with readings. The Theme which Rev. Heckendorn as guest speaker chose was "Reconciliation in a Broken World." A questionnaire and discussion on the causes of crime followed. A letter from the Secretary of Supply and welfare was read by Mrs. Durnin with an appeal for a parcel for the Angola Mission such as articles used in Hospitals, Sanitariums and for school children's needs. MrS: 'Stott'. gaire a Vocal number "How Great Thou Art" a social half hour followed. Mrs. Dorothy Brunsdon visited on Tuesday of last week with her husband Bert in Westminster Hospital finding him quite improved following an operation. We wish to extend congratulations to Wayne Lyon and Darrell Shabbrook grade 5 and 6 pupils of Londesboro area school having been successful in gaining first place playing an accordion duet in a class of 20 at the Music Festival held in Hotel London in May under the direction of the Conservatory of Music. They are qualified to participate with other classes in July in Toronto. Their music teacher is Mr. Romania of Clinton. Mr. and Mrs. David Mair, Sue Greger and Susan Cameron of Golden Anniversary Ball were finalized. The dance is to be held downstairs in the Community Centre on Saturday June 20. The price of "fads was set at $6.00. Mrs. Bill Fleming offered to help Mrs. Steve Brown convene lunch, Mrs. Bert Clifford is in charge of decorations and Mrs. Paul Kerrigan is in charge of tickets. Proceeds will go to the Clinton Community Park. Detroit spent a weekend recently with Mrs. Myrtle Fairservice and Ann. Miss Edith Beacom and Mrs. Townsend spent a few days last week with Miss Dorothy Little in Toronto. ACCIDENT STEPS The Ontario Safety League again reminds motorists that after an accident, the first duty of those involved is to take any necessary steps to prevent another one. Many drivers think, wrongly, that after an 'accident the cars must be left where they are until the police arrive. This misapprehension can lead to unnecessary danger, and delay to , other traffic. After a collision the cars should be moved to the curb, or on to the shoulder, if feasible.
