The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs. Arie Verhoef, Clinton. The groom is the son of Mr and Mrs. Thomas A. Steep, Newbury. Rev. A. J. Mowat conducted the 3:30 p.m. double ring nuptials. The bride was given in marriage by her father and wore a floor length princess style gown of bridal brocade in peae-de-charme that featured full nylon chiffon sleeves and an empire waistline that extended into 'a graceful train at the back. Her full length veil was held in place by a floral headpiece enhanced with crystal and pearl trim. She carried a bouquet pf red roses and steph,,e5:19S.kW, A Maid of honor' was Dianne Verhoef, sister of the bride, of Goderich. Bridesmaid was Mrs. Joanne Verhoef, Clinton. They were dressed alike in full length gowns of heavenly blue crystal organza featuring an empire waistline, full sleeves and a high neckline with white daisy trim. Their hairbands were of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Johnston of 304 Albert St. Clinton celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversary on June 7,1970. Leila Lawson, daughter of the late Mr and Mrs. James Lawson and Harvey Johnston, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Silas Johnston were married in the Walton manse on June 4, 1930 by the late Rev. Mr. Maines, Williams Fuels Ltd After their marriage they lived in Morris Township until 1954 when Mr. Johnston was appointed to a position at the Huron County Home where they resided until his retirement last -year. A family dinner was held on Saturday evening at the Tiger Dunlop Inn at which time'all the members of the family were present. Then on Sunday afternoon and evening, open house was held at their home when many of their friends and relatives called to offer their best wishes. Mrs. Bert Johnston received the guests at the door and a grand-daughter, Charlene Campbell was in charge of the guest register. The couple's four daughters Mrs. Grant McLean(Helen), Mrs. James Armstrong, (Leona), Mrs. Berne McKinley (Doris), and Mrs. Dwight Campbell (Joan), waited on the guests, serving tea, Mrs. James Armstrong, Sr„ Mrs. Pearl McFarlane and Mrs. James McDonald poured tea with Mrs. Bewley and Mrs. Martin helping in the kitchen. Friends Were present from Brussels, Walton, Kincardine, Goderich, Seaforth, Mitchell, Toronto, Bluevale, Pinkerton, Belgrave as well as those from Clinton. The bride and groom of forty years ago also have 10 grand-children. Paulini, Kitchener was the flower girl. Both were dressed in the same style as those worn by the bridesmaids, and carried baskets of yellow shasta daisies, lily of the valley and Ivy with matching green chiffon Rosettes in their hair. Mr. David Grainger, Exeter was groomsman and Mr. Donald Watson, R.R.4, Clinton, and Mr. Wayne Edwards, Exeter were the ushers. The organist, Miss Lois Grasby played traditional wedding music and accompanied the solist, Miss Becky Howse, Clinton when she sang "0 Perfect Love' , "Lords Prayer," and This is Our Day". The reception was held in the Church Auditorium. The bride's mother received the guests wearing a lavender moss crepe dress with chiffon panels at front with white accessories and a purple orchid. The groom's mother assisted wearing a coral crimpknit , dress with matching coat, white accessories and a white and coral orchid. For their wedding trip to Northern Ontario the bride travelled in a pale green crimpknit dress and a darker green coat, white accessories and a yellow orchid corsage. Prior to her marriage the bride was feted at a miscellaneous shower given by Mrs. Matthew Paulini, Kitchener; a pantry shower given by Mrs. Graig Kerr and Miss Ruth-Ann Kerr, Exeter; and a miscellaneous shower given by Mrs. Henry Klaver, friends and neighbours from the Clinton-Seaforth area. Ontario Street United Church, Clinton, decorated with yellow candelabra,, and baskets of yellow shasta Daisies, white daisies and white mums was the 'setting for the wedding of Gaye Heather Watson, R.R.4, Clinton and Ernest Craig Kerr, Exeter on Saturday, May 30, 1970 at 3:30 p.m. They were united in marriage in a double-ring ceremony, the Rev. H. W. Wonfor officiating. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Watson, R.R.4 Clinton, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Craig Kerr, Exeter. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a formal length empire styled gown in Lagoda crepe with a scoop neckline and elbow length sleeves edged with wide Alencon lace edging around sleeves and a front panel of matching lace. Fullness in back which fell into a sweeping cathedral train with a bustlebow at waistline. To complete her outfit the bride chose a shoulder length veil. The three tier veil had a scallopped embroidered edge held by a cluster of petal point roses. She carried a cascade of yellow roses and trailing Ivy. Miss Ruth-Ann Kerr of Exeter, maid of honor and the bridesmaids, Miss Darlene Watson, Waterloo and Miss Edith Fitz, Kitchener were dressed alike in floor-length mint green gowns of chiffon. The empire, styled gowns had a scoop neckline, with pOnft' Sleels edged with matching applique. Matching applique was around the empire waist. A flowing panel was at back trimmed with matching applique, They carried cascades of yellow shasta daisies and lily of the valley with matching green chiffon Rosettes in their hair. Another treat that the Guides enjoyed at their last campfire, and we also liked was called "banana boats," Everyone then joined ' Pow Wow" which is the closing ceremony. Brownies look forward to participating 'in it at the end of each meeting. Brown owl, Mrs. Brown, • handed out "Brownie Leaving Certificates" to the following girls who now attend Guides: Marilyn Moir, Julie Bartliffe, Jane Symons, Mary Cantelon, • Beverly Cantelon, Mary Smith, Kim Diehl and Laurie Keyes. Fluffy ,Owl, Mrs. Cantelon . presented each girl with a gift Ball reunion held at Seaforth One hundred twenty-two relatives attended the annual Ball Reunion in Seaforth Memorial park on Sunday. People attended from Peterborough, Michigan, Goderich, Stratford and surrounding districts, Winners in sports events were: races; pre-schoolers, Doreen and Patricia Millson: girls eight and under, Sandra MacGregor and Sheryl Millson; boys eight and under, Frank Ellerby and Larry Adams; girls 10 and under, Sandra MacGregor and Cathy Gibbings; boys 10 and under, Robert Vodden and Bryan MacGregor; girls 12 and, under, Debbie Colquhoun and Joan Garrow; boys 12 and under, Paul and Mike Gibbings; ladies Arva Ball, Mens Ron Durnin. I • Other events included kick the slipper, time race, water mellon weight guessing, relay races and nail hammering. Prizes awarded for the oldest person present, Amos Ball; oldest married couple, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Ball; youngest married couple, Ron and Dianne Durnin; youngest baby, Anna Margaret Graham and people coming the farthest place, Ron and Dianne Durnin. Next year's executive is honorary presidents, Stan and Ethel Ball; president couple, Ernie and Maxine Durnin; vice-president couple, Harold and Vernice Stanbury; secretary couple, Leonard and Sharon Hoffman; committee, Warren and Marie Gibbings, Don and Eilleen MacGregor, Dora and Bert Shobbrook. The 1971 Ball Reunion will be held in Spring Bank Park, London on June 13. writer's badges. Jane Symons received swimmers badge, Marilyn Van Altena would have received housekeepers badge but was absent. Mrs. Flowers presented second year service stars to Donna Cole, Linda Diehl, Terry Flowers, Pam Gornall, Nancy Hearn, Nancy Newland, Elizabeth Reid, Janice Stephenson and Katey Walden, A "Thanks for your Hospitality" card was presented to Mrs. Walden on behalf of all present by Laura Cantelon. Brown Owl, Mrs. Brown will retire from Brownies because of her very busy life. Ann Botterbusch presented her with a small remembrance a "Brownie Cup and Saucer' from the Pack. Ann was also chosen to present the gift by Tawny Owl, Mrs. _Peterson, because she was the first girl to pick up litter without anyone mentioning it. Sandra Reid and Ann Botterbusch are leaving the pack because their families are moving away. The party closed with some favourite games and songs. The fourth Clinton Brownie Pack will meet again in September. Brown Owl will be Mrs. Marg. Cantelon, Tawny Owl, Mrs. Vi. Peterson. Best man was Lyle Steep, brother of the groom, of Newbury. Ushers were Doug May of Appin and Arie Verhoef, brother of the bride, Clinton. For a reception in the church parlor the mother of the bride chose a blue lace ensemble with white accessories and a corsage of white carnations. The mother, of the /groom selected a pink • brocade ensemble in pink with tinevy accessoriesre,SheAmorweao corsage of white carnations. For a honeymoon trip to the United States the bride selected an off-white one-piece dress with black trim and black accesories and a corsage of red sweetheart roses.
