HomeMy WebLinkAboutClinton News-Record, 1970-06-11, Page 16The Huron County Beef Improvement Association are planning a beef carcass evaluation program. 'This program will be run in conjunction with the Hensall Spring Show and Calf Club Show. Plans are to have five beef animals of different grades, finish and body conformation on display at the Hensall Show June 12 for ' live animal evaluation. These cattle will be trucked to Guelph June 12th or 13th, and slaughtered June 15th. Each carcass will be halved and one half will be cut in saleable cuts wrapped and frozen. The cut carcass evaluation will be held at the new animal science research building at the University of Guelph, June 20. The program on June 20, will be a bus trip to arrive in Guelph at 10:00 mil., take part in the carcass evaluation program, have a "bring your own" lunch, and visit a beef feedlot on the outskirts of Guelph prior to returning home. Ron Usborne, Ph.D. of the Meat Science Department, University of Guelph and a government grader will be on hand for the evaluation program. It was held in the auditorium of QfP,..P,L last $aturday, Miss Catherine Hunt, home economist for Huron County,. WaS in .charge of the day's program assisted by the home economist ,for Waterloo county, Miss Susan. Langton, and Perth County's home economist, Miss Lorraine Sidorchuk. Miss Hunt welcomed all and presented leadership badges to. Mrs. W, Bradnock and Mrs. Frank Raithby, Auburn WS* Donald Haines and Mrs. Thomas Haggitt, Auburn 2; Mrs. Russel. Good and Mrs. R. E. The girls discussed menu building and breakfast planning With fruit and did a fruit qui4 during the morning's prograrn. The afternoon's program was skits and demonstrations along with the 'Walks set up by the various clubs. Auburn 2 Presented their skit, "Family meals with two &nits a day" with Margaret Franken as Old King Cole and. Linda Jefferson, Trudy Machan, Lynn Turner, Barbara Chamney, Jean Hardy, Barbara Empey, Carol Gross and Susan Thompson taking the parts. Marie Empey made the posters and Donna Chamney introduced and summarized the skit. Hplmesville 3 had Jane Harris speak on their exhibit, "A day's meals featuring fruit". Clinton 2 gave interesting demonstrations of several fruit desserts and these were done by Diane Collins, Karen Tyndall, Laurie Tyndall and Louise Lovett. Arva Ball spoke on Auburn l's exhibit, "Five Ways with one fruit" and this N;vas done with apples. Holmesville 2 presented a skit, "Breakfast for a Club Girl" with all members taking part. Mary Lou Vincent was and at the Ontario Department of Agriculture and Food office at Clinton. Facilities at Guelph will accommodate 100 people so get your ticket early and participate in this worthwhile project. This will be your opportunity to question a new grading system. County Honor , pins and certificates were presented to Barbara Chamney, Auburn; Katherine Forbes, Clinton; Dianne Collins, Clinton; Barbara Wise, Clinton; Marilyn Wise, Clinton; Bonnie Westbrook, Clinton; Betty Londesboro; Mary Lcju McGregor, Londesboro; Vicki. Vanstone, Goderich; Cathy Yoting, Goderich; lieneY Fisher, Clinton; Sandra Hunter, Goderich. During the day it was announced that the fall project would be Focus on Fitness. Voting took place for next spring's project and it likely will be "Separates for Summer". Provincial Honors and pins for completing 12 projects were presented to Mary Lynn Forbes, Clinton; Marie Trewartha, Clinton; Nancy Ginn, Clinton; Margie Phalen, Blyth; and Marilyn Bodges, Goderich. Provincial honors for successfully completing 12 4-H Homemaking Club projects were given to several girls at Achievement Day in GDCI Saturday, Two area girls, Margaret Phelan(left) Blyth and Marilyn Bodges (right) Goderich, received the award.
