BY RICK KUSH The Orioles stomped on the Yankees 12-7 to take a share of the squirt town league lead behind the pitching and hitting of John Hart. Hart had a single and three doubles, driving in four runs. T. Colquhoun had a double. The Yankees were led by T. Gordner with three singles and Ian Fleming with a pair. Other Yankee hitters were S. Walsh and B. Morgan. The last place Twins were edged 9.8 by the Tigers who won their first game. The Tigers scored five runs in the first inning and added three in the third to hang on for the win, They got singles from B. Reid, S. Well over 100 fans enjoyed their first outing at the newly renovated Ball Park watching the Colts thump Hensall 13-5. Newcomer Ted Tisdale started the game but had control trouble and gave up three early runs before his team mates were able to hit the scoreboard. Ed Daer drove in Clinton's first run, then scored on Barry Mutrie's triple down the third base line. Mutrie's bat was hot throughout the game. ' In the fifth he drove in another run with a single, scoring Doc Miller. In the,. sixth, 'big Hans Leppington picked up where he left off last year as he socked a single over second base in his first time at bat. Ed Daer in picking up his first win of the season for Clinton was in trouble only in the seventh when two errors and a walk set up Hensall for two runs on a deep drive which went 320 feet into centre field, Clinton picked up several cheap runs in the eighth on pass balls, walks and mixed-up play by Ken Strong, FROM THE BULL PEN: Although the Colts won by a big score — errors by Hensall helped — the big bats only picked up seven hits....Ed Daer looked sharp for three innings with seven strikeouts....Coach Jim Livermore has a full lineup and is trying to give everyone a chance to show their stuff and Jones and Robert Taylor. The Twins' hitters were J. Hearn, R. Carter and K. Carter. The Orioles kept a share of first place by trouncing the winless Twins 10-5. The Orioles waited until the top of the fifth to start, then exploded for five runs and went on to win. The Orioles were 'led by J. Hart, D, Shea and T. Colquhoun while Kevin Carter had two triples and a single for the Twins. Rick Carter was the only other Twin to get a hit, Playoffs begin Monday, June 15 with the Yankees meeting the Tigers at 6 p.m. and on Wednesday the Orioles and Twins meet at 6 p.m. try to make the team....The new shortstop, Barry Mutrie — a Lands and Forests worker at Point Farms Park for the summer — shows promise of being a good batter but had no fielding plays to make to test his ability in that area..,.The fans will soon be able to sit on new bleachers recently constructed by a Kinsmen Work Party. The Kinettes will stain them first with a preserver..,.An unfortunate accident occurred early in the game when a little,, girl was struck by a wild throw over first base. The Kinsmen club have let a contract to Lundy Fence to construct a four foot fence between the dugouts and the screen and 100 feet down the field from the dugouts. The fence will help eliminate these accidents to fans.... The Colts' scorebook was taken by mistake after the Hensall game by someone and the scoring and hitting cannot properly be listed, Please return the book to the manager, Len Fawcett....In the opening game of the season in Thorndale, the Colts dropped a 4-3 decision. Clinton tied the score in the sixth on Butch Fleet's triple. Bard Dutot and Archie Pickett scored on the hit, then Fleet came home on a pass ball. Charged with the loss was Cam MacDonald. playoff spot. D. Schoenhals had three hits while R. McAdam and A. Lavis each had two.
