He will introduce racing two nights a week this season.,.. Friday's for super modifieds and hobby cars, and Tuesday's for hobby cars and the new diamond class. Greedy has set the starting times for the Tuesday and Friday shows at 8 p,m. The interest and excitement builds as opening night is fast approaching. As one of the adult members of the cast, I feel that I can speak for all the adults. We are experiencing a most congenial integration of students and adults, or bridging ' the gap" that Mr. Cull had hoped to achieve. I hope Clinton and district realizes what jewels we have in having in our midst, Mr. and Mrs. George Cull ( they say behind every good man there's a good little woman). It must take intestinal fortitude, courage, faith along with immeasurable ability to attempt such a big production as the "Pirates", but that's just what they've got—and more. I've been a staunch Ciintonian for more years than I care to relate but knowing my fellow Clintonians and my neighbours that surround us. I know that they'll be out to support Mr. Cull and his many terrific co-workers on May 27 - 30. We want these leaders to stay with us for a long time so let's show them that they're appreciated! They deserve the very best! AN ADULT OF THE "PIRATES" CAST The Editor I am referring to the column "Rambling with Lucy" in which she wrote about sidewalks not being needed in Bayfield. I for one am in favour of Bayfield progressing. Why try to keep it an "Old World Village" in the 20th century. This may be fine for summer people who want to see it like this, they're only here two months of the year and can return to their city homes (with paved sidewalks in front of each one) but see if The spring meeting of the Huron County Trappers' Association was held April 13 in the Londeshoro Hall. After a film on the life and trapping of the beaver, shown and described by Mr. Clark and Mr. Ed. Meadows of Londesboro and Forests Liepartment, Hespeler, was finished, Mr Lloyd Cook, President of Ontario Trappers' Association, North Bay, showed a good assortment of tanned wild animal pelts, asking the younger trappers 'The names of different animals and describing to the boys the life habits of the northern fisher, otter and Lynx. The election of five new members of the board was then carried out by Mr, Meadows. ,Elected for a two year term were Les Dolmoge, Wallace IVicbougall,' Elmer Trick, Mery catkin, Ernie Ellwood. Sam Mabon was elected to fill Mel Crick's place who had resigned owing to school work and being a long distance away. Ed. MeadowS then spoke and answered many questions about skidoos, AmetiCan hunters, etc, lie stated he- would like night coon hunting stopped as many deer ate shot also, Fishermen should have to wear tags or license on their hanks, 'Because skidoos are damaging property and wild life is being abused, moose season WaS eut back and many torriplainta concerning THURSDAY, AMP 11,, Ghielcen Barbecue,. •COnStanCe.. It may be healthier to walk on the ground than sidewalks, but it certainly isn't safer. Try walking down Main Street with children when cars are zooming up and down, but the side of the road is the only place that a buggy can be pushed, or a wagon pulled, or even a little bike.ridden. I always thought the road was for cars, not for people to walk on because of the lack of sidewalks. In my opinion if we're to be an Old World Village and expect people to walk down the middle of the road, then we should all go back to driving a horse and buggy on main street. A BAY FIELD CITIZEN The Editor The letters pro and con re — the Bayfield sidewalks have been interesting. We ourselves believe that the average visitor does not want cement sidewalks and that, for the expense involved, they will benefit very few people. A Detroit lady who had not been to Bayfield - phoned, for information. When told that we had such a rural atmosphere here that we did not even have cement sidewalks, she said "Oh Good!" and promptly sent the deposit fora cottage. A young couple spent a couple of days in one of our hotels recently and fell in, love with the village, They began delving into its history and say that they will be back. People are fleeing the concrete and the asphalt whenever they can get away from their work. Many businesses here benefit by this summer influx of visitors so we would be wise to pay attention to their viewpoints. As for gravel sidewalks being hard to walk on, have you ever tried the bricks and cobblestones of some of the Old World places? Since 1946 this Did you take a good look at your children today? If they look the same as they always do, then you've, come down with a case of fading memory. Children grow up mighty fast and before you know it, days turn into months and months into years. • If you're not on your toes, those wonderful childhood years can fly by. That's why the warmth, the joy and the ever-changing appearance of your child deserve to be -remembered with a professional portrait. A family collection of photographs can help sharpen fading memories, and when taken on a regular basis can provide you with an accurate, pictorial record of all your children. Here are some grooming tips for children that •you might find helpful when you are planning a portrait. Naturalness is what will make the portrait memorable. The photographer will keep the child's mind off the camera, but you can help by dressing your children in clothes that they feel comfortable in. Stay away from clothes that have bold stripes, large plaids, or fancy ruffles; these will overpower the rest of the photograph. Instead, plan on something simple yet with some color, especially if you are having the magnifinerit trophy has been -awarded at the Federation's Annual Convention to the member considered to have contributed the Most in the field of conservation the preceding year, The six Zone sportsmen of Abe' Year and their wives will be guests of Carlings at the Federation's Annual Convention where the Federation R)ortsinan of the Year will be announced and he will receive the ultimate recognition, the Carling Sportsman of the Year Trophy. All awards will be provided by Carlings and the competition will be administered by the Federation. It is expected that this eirpansion of the program will stimulate the already impressive activity of Federation Members in the conservation field. portrait photograph taken in color. 1 " Turtleneck and bulky sweaters are stylish, but they don't flatter a child with a round face. You can make a boy look thinner with a vest or V-neck sweater and the same principle holds true for girls. Hair can be important, too. A boy's hair should look neat, but don't plan a trip to the barber shop the day before the sitting. It takes a few days to get rid of that freshly-cut look. If your daughter has long hair, bring a ribbon or hair band along to keep it away from her face. Professional photographers suggest that if your child is young, you should plan your appointment for a time just after his nap. This way the child will be well rested. A snack before the child goes is also a good idea to keep him from getting hungry and restless. Piro tographers suggest bringing your child's favorite toy with you to the studio is a good way to help keep him amused during shooting. Tell your child that having his portrait taken will be a treat and fun. And it really will be. After you get the portrait back, you'll have something that will be a joy to look at for years to come. BY A. LAURIE coVitificniN Clinton.Colts, who went all the way to the Ontario Baseball ASsociation finals last fall, have been Practising for the past two weeks, and play their first game next Wednesday in Mitchell. First home game is Tuesday, June 9, at 6:30 o'clock, Again entered in the long—established Huron-Perth Baseball League, the Colts are the only 4 `B' team; other teams and their classification are: Hensall "0"; Thorndale "C" and Mitchell"C". Clinton's entry in the league looks like a powerful team as most of last year's heavey—hitting young players are back. It is reported that Clinton will have more starting pitchers this season. Six of the Colts home games are scheduled for Thursday 'nights and all games are called for 6:30 o'clock at the Clinton Community Park. On Sunday afternoon, June 28 at 2;00 o'clock, the Colts have scheduled a game with Corunna, the team that beat Clinton out in the OBA Intermediate "B" finals last year. It would be a good idea to mark this date on your sports calendar. OPP replies QUESTION: Dear Sir: I would like to buy a mini bike. I was wondering if you need a licence like you do for a motorcycle, or whether you just need a permit ",:o drive them like you need for a snowmobile. ANSWER: If you are going to operate the mini bike on private property, like your own, or someone elses, with their permiss:o-a, you do not need a licence pia or driver's licence. If you are going to operate it on any road tl at the nubile has access to, you must have a driver's licence and have a licence plate on h, because it then becomes a motoxycle and must have all the equipment required by law on a motorcycle, such as lights, brakes, etc. This same rule spectators in early and out early and I think everybody concerned will feel much better about• it," he added. Parking facilities have been increased over last season....from 7 to 12 acres. The entire race complex has been extended from 14 to 25 acres. New light standards and new washroom facilities have been provided in the parking areas. The track itself, extended from one quarter mile to one half mile last August, has undergone further change. Its width has been extended from 52 to 62 feet, Spectators will be permitted to get closer to where the action is. This season, seats have been extended 30 feet closer to the track. Fans, however, will be separated from the cars and drivers by a 12 foot asphalt `roadway' raised some five feet about the track. • Greedy, spending more than $1 0 0,0 0 0 improving the Delaware plant since last July, plans to spend an additional $100,000 this coming season and next year. Ecologists know they are i mportant in maintaining supplies of water and oxygen. To many city dwellers they are a vacation haven where one can enjoy solitude and relaxation. To many people in the world Canada's forests are the source of the paper on which the daily newspaper is printed. To almost one-third of a million Canadians they mean jobs and livelihood, and all Canadians should be aware our forests are a major factor in our economic and social well-being. I'm asking you to take a little time to think about what you can do to preserVe and protect our forests, because none of us can afford to take our forests for granted — in National Forest Week or in any other week. Three out of every four forest fires are caused by human carlessness, and last year these fires ravaged 1,800,000 acres of Canadian woodlands. In terms of uncut timber alone, that means a loss of considerably more than $10,000.00. The season is with us again when the risk of forest fires can be very high, and I urge you to help us in keeping needless waste to a minimum—waste of timber, waste of wildlife and recreational opportunities, waste to our environment, As you travel through our forests this summer please put out campfires wjth,• water, don't throw away , applies to a bike that has a cigarettes; please be careful. motor on it.
