This truck could have pulled over next the curb by the Bank of Montreal or turned right towards Seaforth and out of the way, Another nerve wracking scene was a car which drove south down the main street and I am sure the fire truck and police were moving at the time as they followed this car. The light was red, the car stopped, the police pulled to the right and signalled the car to move. By now the fire truck was right behind and only had one clear way to go — to the left of this car which suddenly signalled a left turn. This car could have easily made a right turn and, gotten clear of the intersection before the fire truck was forced to have to look out for things like this occuring. Since Thursday, I have tried to think of a way to keep the intersection clear of traffic. This is a suggestion which might help. Is it not possible for a few business men on each street, who do not go on the truck to leave their stares and stop traffic. I don't think a customer would be lost if he had to wait a few minutes longer in a case of fire. There is more than one person in almost all stores to look after things. Perhaps a man or two on Highway 4 at the corner at the Supertest Station could stop the traffic from the north. The south traffic could be stopped at Illii the new traffic circle.
