Mrs. Irene King Gairdner,
widow of the late Dr. Tom
Gairdner, who predeceased her
in 1933 and was buried in
' Bayfield Cemetery, passed away
in Burbank, California, an
Monday, April 20, in her. 92nd
year.
She was born in King City,
Missouri, on October 24, 1878.
Funeral service was held in the
Steen-Lorentzen Chapel in
North Hollywood, California, at
.8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21,
with the Rev. Dr. Joseph
Applegate officiating. The body
was flown- to the Malton Airport
near Toronto and taken to the
Ball Funeral "Home in Clinton. A
graveside committal service was
held in the Bayfield Cemetery
on Friday at 11 a.m. with the

There are two sons,, and a
daughter surviving and several
grandchildren all of California.,
Mr. and, Mrs. Max V.
Neumann, her daughter Margaret
and her bushand, came here with
the body for the committal
service. They remained in the
village until Saturibiy noon, and
left Clinton by train to catch
their plane home to Irvine,
California.
MM R, H, F. Gairdner of
Bayfield is a aister,in-law of the _ -
deceased and she is now the only
remaining member of the
original older generation of the
Gairdner family. The Gairdner
PropertY on which the otiginal
home still remains and which has
never changed ownership from
the Gairdner family was
purchased in 1853 front Baron
de Teyll. It is on Main Street in
Bayfield.

Another of our former
residents of Londesboro in the
person of David Ewan passed to
his reward on Sunday, April 12.
He suffered • from bronchial
trouble and spent many weeks in
Clinton Hospital in recent years.
Born in Drumtochty
Perthshire, Scotland, in 1882, as
a youth he worked in the slate
quarry for the handsome sum of
8 cents an hour. At 17 he began
his apprenticeship as a
blacksmith serving four years
and received two pounds a year
for wages.
He married Margaret
Hamilton in 1911 and came to
Canada in 1913. For 6 years Mr.
Ewan worked with his uncle Dan
Ewan of Brussels, then in 1919,
he came to Londesboro buying
the blacksmith shop from Wm.
Armstrong which he operated
until retiring a few years ago. His
service to the community and
his willingness to manufacture as
well as repair was appreciated by
many. Mrs. Ewan predeceased
him in 1955.

MRS. 'JOHN PFAFF
Mrs. John Pfaff, the former
Clara Maltilda Baker, formerly
of Hensall passed away
Wednesday, April 22 at the
Sunnyside Home for the Aged at
Kitchener where she had been a
resident for five and one half
years. She was 89 years old.
- Surviving are three daughters,
Kathleen, Mrs. John Neil
Alvinston; 'Helen, Mrs. Tebbutt,
London; and Ruby, Mrs. Alvin
McNicol, London. A son, Nelson
predeceased her in 1962. Her
husband predeceased her in
1964. Also surviving are 10
graodehildren and 15 great
grandchildren. Public funeral
services were held April 25 -
from. Bonthron Funeral Home
conducted by Rev. R. U.
MacLean. Interment was in
Hensall Union Cemetery.

heen confined to her roorn with
illness for the past eight weeks is
improving in health and able to

Goderich celebrated their 50th
Wedding Anniversary April 20
with a family dinner at Tiger
Dunlop Inn.
With them for their
anniversary were one son,
,Charles of R.R. 4, Clinton; and
one daughter Mrs. A. J. (Betty)
Deseck, of St. Clair Shores,
Mich.; six grandchildren and two
great grandchildren.
Friends and relatives came
from London, Detroit, St. Clair
Shores, Mich.; Bayfield, Clinton,
Seaforth, Belgrave, Durham,
ChesleY, Tara, Southampton,
Lucknow and Palmerston.
