Well it happened.
Everyone predicted it would
and I knew in my heart they
were right, but I still kept
hoping they wouldn't be. Then
the announcement came
Tuesday night that John Wayne
had won the Academy Award as
best actor in True Grit.
The true fact is, that Wayne
didn't win the Oscar for True
Grit, but rather for the more
than 200 movies he had made in
Hollywood over the last 40
years. It was really an award for
the accumulation of work rather
than this one part, since anyone
who saw the movie realized they
were watching John Wayne play
John Wayne, not Rooster
Cogburn.
It's usually the way things
work in the Oscar voting and
overall it isn't that bad, except
for those who really deserve an
Oscar and lose out because of
this sort of sentiment.
The real surprise of the night
was that Maggie Smith ,won the
Oscar -for her role' in. The'Prime

(Continued term Page 4)
for I have dealt with the training
schools and have had three of
their boys in my home for as
long as two and a half year
periods and saw them released at
18 with the same drastic
problems they had to begin with
and they were in training schools
and foster homes from the time
they were ten and twelve
respectively. Their social worker
or parole officer coming into my
home every other week told me
that over 80 percent are
repeaters after 18 and end up in
Guelph reformatory and my
boys are proof of this.
I know from the experience
I've had this whole system is not
working, in fact it stinks. That is
why I have no boys now.
What really scares me and
what is probable to happen is
that after a year goes by and this
boy causes no trouble, they will
place him in a foster home,
without telling the foster parents
the truth and what to watch for.
This is what happened to me and
I had to find out and live with a
serious problem and one the Drs.
classed a psychopath.
When I see a boy who
committed such a violent crime
getting just the inadequate help
they can give him, it makes my
blood ran cold.
Surely some other ansWer can
be found. I don't know where,
the answer is but I believe the
results are proving this way is
hot working. I think as citizens
we should be finding out more
about these things and voicing

When an officer gets his foot

me believe the public should
hand the police a free rein and

Heart Month in Canada is
now over, and on behalf of the
Canadian Heart Fund, Ontario
Division, please accept our
sincerest appreciation for your
co-operation and assistance
during our financial campaign in
February.
Our objective this year was
$1,000,000, and although all
returns are not in as yet, we are
quite hopeful that our objective
will be attained - maybe
surpassed.
Without your willing
co-operation in communicating
our needs to the public, the
Canadian Heart Fund would not
be able to express such an
outlook.
Heart disease is everyone's
problem - and again our thanks
for helping us bring to the public
attention that - research should
be everyone's responsibility.

With an excellent turnout on
a stormy night, Clinton
Intermediate Baseball Club
organized its team executive and
discussed fund-raising projects
last Thursday night.
The club must purchase all
new catcher's equipment and to
help pay for the equipment a
stag will be held on Friday, May
1 at the Community Centre.
The executive for the year
includes Len Fawcett, team
manager; Bert Clifford,
secretary- treasurer; directors,
Bill "Butch" Murney, Brian
"Sly" Kennedy, Jack Blair; and
Jim "Newt" Collins, trainer and
equipment manager.
Bill Murney will be in charge
of the stag and plans to have the
tickets out this week to
members of the ball club.
Twenty merchants have
helped in the purchase of new
uniforms which the club hopes
will be received within the next
few weeks.
A high percentage of last
year's team will be back this
season. Catchers Butch Fleet and
Hans Leppington; infielders Brad
Dutot, Doc Miller, Stu Mustard;
outfielders Bob "Little Joe"
Livermore, Rich Fremlin, Don

should have freedom to do as we
ought and we ought to be

ANTIQUE SPATTER FINISH
Putting a spatter finish on an
antiqued piece of furniture is as
easy as a flick of the wrist,
according to the Canadian Paint
Manufacturers Association.
It's just one of many effects
you can get with antiquing kits,
simply by varying the way in
which you apply the toner.
Here's how it's done: Use a stiff
bristle brush — an old
toothbrush is fine. Dip the
bristles of the brush into the
paint. "Spring" -the brush with
your finger to throw a fine spray
of toner over the undercoating.
Don't load the brush too heavily
with toner — you'll have
splotches, not spatters.
