Pee Wees end
season, lose
at Goderich
BY BERT CLIFFORD
Clinton Pee Wees were ousted
from the Young Canada hockey
tournament in Goderich last
week in their first game by the
strong Essex club.
Jamie Thompson gave the
Ponies a 1-0 lead early in the
first period. Essex tied the score
in the second and went ahead;
but Robin McAdam banged in a
pass from Greg Holmes to tie the
game 2-2. Then, with only
nine seconds left in the second
period, Essex beat Robert
Harkes.
After several good scoring
chances by Clinton, Essex went
back up the ice and scored.
Their fifth goal came 22 seconds
later. Essex finished the game
6-2 with a late goal in the final
minute of play.
In an exhibition game,
Renfrew downed Clinton 7-4.
Jamie Thompson, Robin
McAdam, Greg Holmes and Neil
Colquhoun scored for Clinton.
On Friday, the Ponies played
a 3-3 tie with St. Lambert. Don
MacDonald scored two and
Steve ,Cook golfed in a shot.

Orange Raiders lose in final beaten
by Tavistock in overtime
An older club from Tavistock
captured the first Western
Ontario Girls Hockey
Championship Thursday in a
sudden death win over Chief's
BY BERT CLIFFORD Orange Raiders in the Clinton
Community Centre.
A breakaway goal midway
through the first overtime period
gave Tavistock the 4-3 win over
the young Clinton team.
Sandra Graham on an
end-to-end rush opened the
scoring but Tavistock bounced
back with three quick goals.
The Raiders never quit trying
and with a man (woman?)
advantage, Sandra Fremlin
slapped a hard shot in from the
I blueline.
After tremendous pressure,
Clinton's tying goal came on
another beautiful rush by Sandra
Graham. The overtime period
was a thriller as play went from
end to end.
This was Clinton's first year,
and with some experience, the
girls are going to be a tough club
to beat, in the upcoming years.
