Government participation means you buy
this comprehensive coverage for less than
half the cost.

NEW HOUSE DESIGN — This
2-storey design by Architects
VENCHIARUTTI & VENCHIA-
RUTTI of Toronto, combines an
efficient layout with an attractive
exterior appearance.
It boasts four bedrooms and has
a spacious living-dining room open-
ing onto the rear garden. The
washroom and change area for the
children at the side entrance will
appeal to the housewife as will the
conveniently arranged kitchen with
its bright dining section for less
formal meals. The straight-forward
lines of the house are an important
cost feature. For best sitting the
front door should face north.
The floor area is 1,475 square
feet; • the external dimensions,
which include the carport, are 40
feet by 30 feet four inches. Work-
ing drawings for this house, known
as Design 616, are available from
Central Mortgage and Housing
Corporation at minimum cost.

Science fiction fans
won't want to miss this
fascinating tale of human
survival in the watertight hold of
a sunken tanker. The tanker is
torpedoed during the Second
World War and comes to rest on
a shelf of rock beneath the sea.
There are five survivors on
board, two women and three
men. For 100 years they
continue to live by multiplying,
planting gardens, rigging a
manual generator for light, and
playing a mental game that
makes them the most intelligent
humans alive.
During this same period
thousands of intelligent aquatic
creatures from another planet
are headed toward earth. Their
planet's water supply is
evaporating at such a rate that
they must seek a new home for
survival. This peaceful mission is
met with hostility on earth
because of their weird
appearance and they are forced
to hide in the oceans.
A strange relationship
develops between the aliens and
the trapped survivors beneath
the surface. How they learn to
communicate and help each
other is a most unusual and
unique story.

•Take spring cleaning a

by creating a calendar of safety

Here are some ideas for
Mother's Own Calendar of Home

non-profit public service

Relatives and friends at the
Clinton Public Hospital now
have a wide range of magazines
to peruse while sitting in the
waiting room.
The March meeting of the
Hospital Auxiliary learned from
the Buying Convener, Mrs.
Brock Olde, that eight magazine
subscriptions had been ordered
for the Hospital. Also, that the
croupete had arrived and was
already in use; and the children's
ward had received two nursery
wall plaques, and a small table
and chair.
With these expenditures in
mind, the next money-making
project was discussed — the "Do
Your Own Thing Parties" at
which each hostess can entertain
in her own way, but realizing
$4.00 for the Auxiliary fund.
Women in town are reminded
that the membership campaign is
in progress — and the work in
the Hospital needs more
volunteers.

Official Check of Family
Health for vacation period: First
week in May. Plan for safety
during vacation, whether taking
a trip or remaining at home.
Arrange for physical checkups,
including immunization boostei
shots, prescription renewals, and
anything that should be
discussed with the family doctor
prior to the hot weather season.
Official Fire Prevention
Check of the Home: Check
electrical appliances for frayed
cords, faulty wiring, possible
current leakage. Check outlets
for overloading. Hold' family
conference to confer on details
of escape route in event of fire,
and check-in point outside the
house so each member may be
accounted for. Discard
accumulated rubbish from
basements and attics.
Back-To-School Preparations:
Last week in August. These
should include an up-to-date
child supervision plan for the
safety of pre-school youngsters.
Prepare a list and telephone
numbers of sitters — relatives,
friends, ' neighbors, your own
teenage children — who may be
counted on to supervise small
children in your absence.
Arrange that youngsters are
never left unsupervised, even if
you only go next door for a cup
of coffee. Accidents often
happen when children are alone
in the house.
The prevention of accidents
in the home is an everyday
subject, says the Council on
Family Health in Canada.
Thousands of deaths and
disabling injuries each year are
caused by accidents in the home
... and the terrible toll is a good
reason for constant alertness for
the'whole family.
