Toronto trip
ClintonThe. .Citizens'
Horticultural. Society ,sponsored
a successful bus tour to the
annual Flower and. Garden Show
at the O'Keefe Centre, Toronto,
March
Amo ng tire ."veteran"
members who attended were the
president, Mrs, Charles Nelson
and directors, Mrs. D,-Oltle, Mrs.
N. Forbes, Mrs. McIntyre,
Mrs, R. Cutimnre and Mrs. S.
Middleton. Al,$P attending were
Mrs, T. R, 'Thompson, Mrs, N,
Tyndail and Mrs. 'Fred siornan,
This was the 16th Garden
show by the Garden Club of
TOMO() and the theme of this
year's show was "Toronto
Now." The display of massed
roses in the main foyer
perfumed the air and welcomed
winter-weary travellers.
There was a magnificent
massed display of 4,000 bulbs
.donated by the Netherlands
Flower Institnte on the
auditorium stage, where Curley
Posen led his orchestra in
nostalgic tunes, a restful haven.
In a natural woodland setting
in the main foyer, trilliums and
Jack-in-the-pulpits were in full
bloom. The wildflower slogan
was "Take Nothing But
Pictures:"
Continuing the theme
"Toronto Now" there was
emphasis on apartment living
with its balcony and container
gardening and fluorescent living.
The mini penthouse gardens
flourish now in Toronto.
We loved the landscape art
depicted by the Japanese garden.
The herb garden provided a
centre of interest as did the
Swedish' hand-loomed display of
wool yarn dyed from natural
plants. We particularly enjoyed
the collection of 50 paintings by
Toronto artists, arranged by A,
J. Casson.
This show was called "Flower
Power," and . gave another
dimension to the fragrant 'blaze
of real flower power. Mayone
Pigott's painting of daisies, red
currants and Queen Anne's lace
excited comment as did
Shaw-Remmington's leaf pattern
sculpture in welded brass.
Typifying the theme,
"Toronto Now" was Joseph
Cusemanas' roses without
thorns, -without stalks, floating
dreamily in a window niche
opening out onto a hill and pale
sky. •
Of perennial interest are the
flower • show's competitive
classesmith names such as "Your
Own Thing," "Well Preserved,"
and "Poster World." One
way-out arrangement featured a
small real .- red fox fur curled
around an amber vase and the
tawny flower colors
complemented the ringed tail.
This was just part of the
exotic colorful fare provided by
the flower show to titillate jaded
winter-weary travellers.

them so hard they only had the
puck in Clinton's end once.
The championship game with
New Hamburg, the winner of the
Lions Tournament the past two
years, was a hard fought game.
The goalkeeping was superb with
both goalkeepers doing some
great acrobatics in keeping out
the puck. The New Hamburg
goalie had no chance in the only
goal scored in the game when
Steve Cook intercepted a
defenceman's pass and fixed a
hard shot into the short side of
the net. Although McAdam and
Graham did not receive assists
on the play which they
originated, Graham hit McAdam
with a rink-wide pass and Robin
fired ,a long shot at the goalie.
His rebound went to the
defenceman who didn't look
when he passed the puck.
Cook's goal also won Robert
Harkes the goaltending award as
the New Hamburg goalie had
allowed only four goals as well
up to that point.
Mr. Joe Higgins, chairman of
the tournament, presented
Harkes with the trophy at the
conclusion of the game. The
wife of the Manager of the
Imperial Bank of Commerce
presented the trophy to captain
Billy Irwin and Mr. Higgins gave
crests to all the members of the
teams. The winning club 'vvasf

The oldtimers who played
Saturday night against Dearborn
were the last Clinton winners of
this tournament in 1958.
Friday the 13th was unlucky
for Dearborn Pee Wees as the
local team bombed them 8.0 to
start off Dearborn Weekend last
week.
Neil Colquhoun led with
three goals and an assist. David
Counter added two goals. Steve
Cook, Greg Butler and Robin
McAdam added singles.
St. Sebastian came back with
a 2.2 win over the Pee Wee
house league team Saturday
afternoon. Mark Nicholson
scored both house league goals.

scoring three pals and assisting
on the fourth by Sandra
.Gremlin,
Clinton built up a 4-0 lead
entering the third period but saw
it dwindle as Seaforth scored
three goals to draw close. But
the local girls held out for the
win.
Dearborn
oldtimers tops
Dearborn players seem to
improve with age if the outcome
of Saturday's oldtimers game
between Clinton and Dearborn is
any evidence.
Deaborn defeated the local
team 11,8 in convening fashion.
Bill Ventola led the visitors
with three goals and two assists.
Paul Draper scored twice for
Clinton as did Bob Livermore
while Bud Yeo, Bruce Cooper,
Borden McRae and Randy Glew,
added singles.
Dearborn Bantams
win for first time
BY BERT CLIFFORD
St. Sebastian Bantams of
Dearborn, Mich. won a
two-game, total points series
over Clinton Bantams for the
first time in the 11 years of
competition here.
They had to come from
behind to take the win. Clinton
had won the first game Friday
night 5.2.
Jim Cameron led Clinton
Friday with two goals. Rod
Campbell, Mike Anstett and Paul
Kay were other Clinton scorers.
. St. Sebastian outscored
Clinton 5-1 in the third period
of Saturday's game to win the
game 7.4.
Brian Langille opened the
scoring for Clinton but Dearborn
came back with two goals. Then
Mike Anstett scored a goal and
Langille added another in the
second to give Clinton a 3.2 lead
going into the third. Dearborn
then took over and Anstett was
the only Clinton scorer in the
third. G. Gomolak led Dearborn
with two goals and an assist,
