The Seaforth Beavers. looked
and acted like a professional
team in the first game of their
WO AA Intermediate "C"
playoffs with the Clinton Colts.
Clinton managed , to hold
them down for 80 minutes to a
5-3 count, then everything fell
apart as Seaforth steamrollered
to a 17-5 win.
Seaforth, led by their old
smoothies, Ken Doig, Jack
MacIlwain and Bill McLaughlin
pumped 12 goals past Lorne
Daer and Gary Black in the
Clinton net in the second half of
the game,.
Bob Beutmiller and Murray
Henderson were Seaforth's top
marksmen with four goals
apiece. Doig and McLaughlin
picked up three each and singles
went to Ray Anstett, Wayne
Rau and Jack MacIlwain.
Butch Fleet scored the first
Clinton goal after Seaforth had
gone in front 3-0. He scored
from the corner after a pass
from Paul Draper.,
Seaforth came back with two
more goals before Ken Daer
intercepted a pass and broke in
alone for a goal.
Early in the second period
Don Bartliff scored from Mel
Rohner. ,Then the roof fell in as
Seaforth scored 10 goals before
Bud Boyes scored for Clinton.
Seaforth added another goal
before Boyes counted again.

Seaforth added another for
good measure.
For the first time this year,
Seaforth went with three lines
and with their experienced
defence and ex-junior goalie
Allan Carter in the net, showed
the power they had when they
played in the OHA league.
They moved the puck well
and their passing combinations
were too much for the local
crew. Colts' forwards stopped
backchecking and this left the
defense at Seaforth's mercy.
The playoffs of the northern
division have provided a surprise
as Wiarton holds a two-game
lead over highly-regarded
Kincardine Bulldogs. In the
other playoff series, Milverton
and Crediton are tied 1-1.
Colts lose 4-3
in overtime
After an embarassing 17-5
loss in the first game of their
playoff series, Clinton Colts
redeemed themselves by forcing
the Seaforth Beavers into
overtime before bowing 4-3 in a
WOAA Intermediate "C"
hockey game in Clinton Tuesday
night.
Seaforth took the early lead
at 5:09 of the first period when
Tom Dick scored on a rebound
after being left alone in front of
the net.
Bill McLaughlin added a
second Seaforth goal in the
second period when he scored
on a powerplay, knocking in a
rebound.
Colts came back in the third
to , force the game into overtime
and missed several chances to
wrap the game up. Butch Fleet
scored the first assisted by Ken
Daer.
Then, with Seaforth's Ken
Doig serving a major, Mel
Hohner scored from Bud Yeo
and Bob Livermore.
The regulation time ended
with the score tied 2-2.
In the overtime Seaforth
scored after only 21 seconds
then added another at 3:45.
Tom Dick and Jim Sills did the
scoring.
Hohner scored another goal
to finish out the Clinton scoring
with the help of Don Bartliff.
The third game of the series
will be played tonight in
Seaforth at 8:30 p,m.

goals in the first period,
'"Weiner" Colquhoun scored
.one on a peeing play from
Jamie Thompsen and Billy

a breakaway by Greg Butler
after captain Billy Irwin hit him
with a perfect rink-wide pass,
Walkerton's Jerry McNulty
beat Robert Harkes for two
meick goals midway through the
second period to tie the score
2-2.
Walkerton put the pressure
on in the third. and were able to
add five more goals, three of
them by McNulty. Singles went
to Chris Robishaw and Sandy
Henry. Clinton kept pace with
two more goals, a' rebound shot
by Steve Cook on Billy Irwin's
long shot and a deflection by
Neil Colquhoun.
Although the Ponies were
outsized, they kept pace with
the good skating club , from
Walkerton. Several of the boys
picked up bad bruises from
blocking the wicked slapshots of
Chris Robishaw. Robin McAdam
picked up a six-stitch cut over
the eye early in the game.
The Ponies are now preparing
for the ACA tournament on
Sunday, March 8, at the Gardens
in London.
MIDGETS LOSE
Lions Midgets, after taking a
terrible drubbing in Listowel,
bounced back with a superb
effort in their 5-3 loss to
Despite a disastrous slump in
the latter part of the season, the
Clinton Colts made the playoffs
in WOAA Intermediate "C"
hockey.
The Colts didn't make their
fans feel too easy though as they
went right down to the final
game to sew up the final playoff
spot. They turned the trick by
defeating Wiarton 6-1 last week
and moved on to the playoffs to
face a fate almost as bad as
death, the Seaforth Beavers.
Colts made the playoffs
despite, dropping their
next-to-last game to Elora 11-7
last Tuesday night. They had to
defeat Wiarton Wednesday night
because Moncton, the team they
were fighting with for the last
spot had beaten Wiarton the
night before.
Input committee
reports on prices
Input costs is the business of
this committee of HCFA, such
items as concentrates, soybean
meal, sprays, fencing, plow
shares and for the ladies
Crimpoline are just a few of the
things for which the input
committee of the Huron County
Federation of Agriculture will
investigate the prices.
Another suggestion that the
committee will act on is a price
quote of items of sale of interest
to farmers in other parts of the
county be 'made available to
farmers. For example, at the
present time there is a large
quantity of corn for sale in the
county and anyone interested
could contact the office at
482-9642. If they have weanling
pigs for sale or grain, contact the
office giving the quantity and
what price asked for them.
John Gaunt, chairman of the
committee also said, "We are
considering a dealership in
Huron County for OFA
tractors."

deflated they couldn't clear the
puck out of their own end. A
Minute later, Listowel again
scored on a soft shot which hit
the inside of, Slade's 'skete and
caroorned into the net.
Listowel continued to
pressure until Bob Moore scored
another to put Listowel out in
front 5-3.
The action was, fast from start
to finish with some beautiful
goals being scored by both clubs.
Ron Graham banged in Dave
Fawcett's pass out in front of
the net then Fawcett fired a nice
shot into the far side of the net.
Graham fired a hard pass
from centre ice to Fawcett on
the blueline and Dave let go the
hard shot on the fly. Listowel
scored the lone goal in the
second period, a nice goal by
Scott McKenzie. McKenzie
scored a quick goal at 46
seconds of the thirdlperiod to tie
the score up.
Jim Cameron, moved up from
the Bantam team, scored one of
the prettiest goals of the night
on a breakaway at 5:10.
Both goaltenders were almost
unbelievable in the. next ten
minutes in holding out the
blistering shots. Listowel hit the
goalpost or crossbar at least four
times in the third before they
finally beat Slade.
But the game was all theirs
Wednesday night as they
pumped in two goals in each
period. The first goal came when
Ken Daer scored from Bud Dale
and Bud Boyes. Wiartoli's
Hepburn tied the score at 11:27
of the first but Butch Fleet pelt
Clinton in front again with the
help of Randy Glew five minutes
later.
From then on it was all Colts.
Butch Murney scored from
Boyes midway in the second 'to
make it 3-1. Then Randy Glew
scored froth Draper and
'MacCauley.
In the third, Don Bartliff
scored from Yeo and Hohner
and Ken Daer finished off the
scoring at 17:23 from Boyes and
Dale.
In the loss the night before to
Elora, Paul Draper and Bud
Boyes each scored two while
Harvey Dale, Ken Daer and
Butch Fleet had singles.
