Two draws were held. A box
of groceries was won by Ross
Sararas, RR 2 Staffa and a box
of chocolates, Mrs. Philip Hem,

The February meeting of the
United Church Women was held
last Thursday evening and was
opened by the president Mrs.
William Dowson who read a
poem. Group Two, led, by Mrs.
Grant Webster, had charge of
devotions and Mrs. Watson
Webster led in prayer.
The offering was taken up by
Mrs. M. Morrison and dedicated
by Mrs. A. J. Mustard. The study
book was taken by ,Mrs. W.
Webster. Miss. Sylvia Wilson gave
a demonstration of "India Club
swinging." Several thank you
letters were read including one
from the London Rescue
Mission.
Forty-one calls were made to
the sick and shut-ins during the
past month. A donation was
made to the United Church
Camp at Goderich. The roll call
was answered by gifts to the
Don Lobb family. The meeting
was closed by Mrs. Grant
Webster and group. One served
lunch.
The Explorer group met on
Tuesday last with the president,
Miss Cathy Taylor in charge. The
purpose and motto were recited
by all members. Miss Sandra
Webster read the scripture. Miss
Sylvia Wilson gave the prayer.
Miss Nancy Fawcett read the
minutes. Miss. Charlene Reid
took up the collection and Miss
Sandra Webster dedicated it. For
crafts, "bookmarks" were made.
After recreation the meeting was
closed by Miss Cathy Taylor.
• The annual meeting of the
South Huron County Orange
Lodge will be held at the Orange
Hall in Goderich on Wednesday,
Feb. 18 with the County Master,
Wayne Smith of Hensall in
charge,

and pin, announced a public
speaking contest from grades 5
& 6, 7 & 8, from Hensall and
Zurich Public Schools will
participate at the Hensall Legion
Hall Monday, February 16, 8
p.m.
The auxiliary will hold a
Legion dance February 21 at the
local arena auditorium, anyone
wishing tickets can contact any
member of the auxiliary. The
group will also sponsor an Easter
Basket Draw, with proceeds for
crippled children, will canvass for
the Red Cross in march ana
cater to a Bonspeil Feb. 28th.

The Tuckersmith group of.
the U.C.W. Brucefield United
Church met at the home of Miss
M. Swan on Tuesday afternoon,
February 9, with Mrs. J.
Henderson and Mrs. R. Scott in
charge of the devotions.
Mrs Henderson opened tke
reading.meeting with. a A hymn
was kink with Mrs..' Ham at the
piano. The scripture was read by
Mrs. Henderson followed by
prayer. Mrs. Scott took a topic
from the study book.
The offering was received and
dedicated by Mrs. Scott. Cards
were signed and sent to the sick.
Congratulations were sent to Mr.
and Mrs. Norris Sillery on. their
50th anniversary 'February 11.
The roll call answered by
fifteen members and one
visitor. In the absence of Mrs.
M. Wilson, Mrs. Berry gave the
secretary's report.
Mrs. James McNaughton was
appointed secretary replacing
Mrs. Wilson.
A fund raising project, paying
five cents for every register in
your home 'amounted to $8.25.
Mrs. A. Paterson presided for the
business part of the meeting.

Mrs. Don Scruton and
children of Clinton spent a few
days with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Tom Alien while Don
enjoyed a holiday ice fishing.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Radford
left on Friday for a month
vacation in Florida.
The Institute meeting was
cancelled 'last week because of
the weather.
The card party on Friday
evening sponsored by the Hall
Board was quite well attended.
Nine tables were in play. ,
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Cowan and
Gregory of Barrie and Mr. and
Mrs. Bill Lee of Clinton spent
Sunday with Mrs. George
Cowan.
Mrs. Wm. Wall (nee Clarissa
Lee) of Kincardine visited with
her aunt, Mrs. Mary Robinson
on Sunday.
We are pleased to note that
Mr. Morgan Jones came home
from Clinton Hospital 'on
Sunday feeling much improved
having spent many weeks in
hospital. High hopes are held for
his continued improvement.

Bremner and Doris of Ethel Were
Sunday Visitors with their
cousins, Mrs. Laura Lyon and
Edith Beacom.
We are sorry to report that
Mr. Ed Youngblut had a severe
set back last weekend when he
suffered a heavy stroke, he had
successfully come through a
critical Operation in Vittoria
Hospital to help hiS heart
Prize winners were: Mystery
prize, Mrs. Wm, Smile; Guessing,
Mrs. Ted Roberts; Attendance,
Mrs. Jack Simmons.
Bingo was played and lunch
served.
Mr. and Mrs, Harry Horton of
Hensall have celebrated their
Golden Wedding Anniversary.
They were married on February
7, 1920 at St. Judes Anglican
Church at King's Cross, London,
England. It was while serving
overseas with the "Canadian
,Corps Cyclists" that Mr. Horton
met his wife the former Annie
Page.
After their wedding they left
for Canada on March 19, 1920
sailing aboard the S.S. Saxonia
and after arriving in Hensall have
lived in and, around there ever
since. '
They celebrated with a dinner
on the evening of February 6,
1970 and a reception afterwards.
On February 7, they held open
house. Telegrams were received
from the Prime Minister and also
Mr. Stanfield.
A framed plague was received
from the Prime Minister and
members of the Province of
Ontario also letters from Mr. and
Mrs. McNaughton MPP and Mr.
and Mrs. McKinley MP.
Flowers were received from
friends in England.
At the United Church
service Sunday morning Rev. H.
F. Currie, in referring to the
golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs.
Horton, stated, "for a period of
over 40 years, Mr. and Mrs.
Horton have rendered faithful
service - to this church and
community. Their devotion and
loyalty to the choir of this
church is recognized by this
congregation."
It was decided to have a
dinner early in the fall, and a
bake sale in the near future.
A 'hymn was sung, followed
by prayer by Miss Paterson.
Mrs. W. Haugh offered her
home for the, meeting on March
9th. Lunch was served by the
hostess and her committee, Mrs.
Stuart, Mrs. E. Thomson and
'Mrs: M. Caldwill.
PERSONALS
Mrs. W. M. Wright of Seaforth
is visiting with Mrs. Ham and
Miss M. Swan this week.
Mrs. A. Paterson has returned
home after spending two weeks
with friends in Toronto.
Mr. Peter Zwaan and his
mother are visiting some of their
family in Holland.
Congratulations are in order
for Mr. and Mrs. Norris Sillery
who celebrated their fiftieth
anniversary on Wednesday,
February,11.
Lawrence Elliott, London,
spent the weekend with friends
in Brucefield.
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Neale
London, visited with Mrs.
Stanley's sister, Mrs. Mac Wilson
and Mr. Wilson.

Sympathy is extended to the
family in this trying time.
Ladies'
Auxiliary
meets
. The February meeting of the
Ladies' Auxiliary to the Royal
Canadian Legion was held in the
Legion Hall lounge, with the
president, Mrs. Harold Black,
presiding.
Due to the Clinton Winter
Carnival Bingo, the attendance
was small and the auxiliary
business was left to a minimum.
The Zone Commander, Mrs. H.
F. Carroll, Goderich, will be
invited to attend the next
monthly meeting. The
attendance draw was made but
did not go, due to absence of the
member.
A Clinton Auxiliary bowling
team did well by coming in
second in the Zone Bowling
tournament held in Exeter on
Saturday, February 7.
The team consisted of Bessie
Black, Geraldine Harris, Erma
Hartley, Margaret MacDonald,
Elsie Murrell and Verna Paulin.
An Exeter team were first
and Clinton came second with
3075 for a total of five bowlers.
Gerry Harris did well with a
triple of 689, and won runner-up'
high triple, The team will now
bowl in Hanover early in Mardi.
A zone card party is to be
held in Goderich on February

celebration, double this versatile
recipe, cut it,into bite-size pieces
and you'll please all the
Valentines on your Mt.
'SALMON-MUSHROOM QUICHE
1 can (73/4 oz.) B.C. Salmon
2 cups fresh, sliced mushrooms
or 1 can (10 oz.) bits 'n pieces
1 tablespoon butter
2 tablespoons chopped chives or
green onion tops '
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon tarragon
2 tablespoons dry white
Vermouth (optional)
4 medium eggs
1 cup 10% or 15% cream (to
include reserved sahnon
1/? cup grated Swiss cheese
Pastry for 10" pie shell.
Line a deep 10" pie plate
with pastry. Prick shell and
partially bake at 400 degrees E.
for 8 minutes, Cool. Cook
mushrooms and chives or onion
lightly in butter or margarine,
but do not brown. Drain and
flake salmon, reserving the
liquid ; but removing skin and
bones. Add flaked salmon, salt,
pepper, tarragon to mushroom
. mixture. If using Vermouth add
at this point and let mixture boil
up for just a minute. In mixing
bowl, beat eggs and add cream.
Place salmon mixture in partially
baked pie shell, spreading
evenly. Sprinkle with grated
cheese. Pour egg mixture over
all, Bake at 4Q0 degrees F, for
30-35 minutes, until golden

baking the quiche in an 18" x
12" jelly roll PP. Use the same
baking temperatures and times,
Cool. Cut into bite-size pieces
for serving as a cocktail hors
d'oeuvre or canape.
