They began with their skating drills, then were divided into fotir teams for twenty-minute games of shinny. In the Pee Wee game the local team showed their superiority throughout the game as they skated to a 5-1 win. Neil Colquhoun started them off with a goal on a perfect, pass from Robin "McAdam at 12:44 of the first period. John Graham reflected a shot back to Jamie Thompson who passed over to David Clynick for a beautiful backhand shot to put Ponies ahead 2-0. Their third goal came on another long Shot by Graham with David Counter batting in the rebound. Ken Grabeldinger got one back for the New York team when he found himself all alone in front of Don Peterson after a defensive mistake by the Clinton defense. Robin McAdam finished off the scoring When he scored on a nice 'passing play frcim Steve Cook and Greg Holmes. The girls took over the ice for the next half hour in a game that saW the Flyers beat the Hawks 5-1. Patti Nay and Sandra Premlin each scared twice and Carol Colquhoun added one for the Flyers while Kathy Patterson scored for the Hawks, The Clinton New York Bantams provided oppositioe for the local team in the next game. Except for a lone goal by Mike Anstett from Brian Langille at 11:04 of the first period, the local team was unable to beat Mat Weimer in the Clinton N.Y. nets for the first two periods. New York changed goaltenders in 'the third and at the same time the local team came to life with their passing and shooting. The new goalie, Tim Hogan, didn't have much chance on the three quick goals scored against him. Brian Langille scored on a wicked slap shot from Danny Colquhoun. Then Robbie Stirling and Langille again scored from close-in. New York got one back when Perry Babcock scored on a breakaway on Clinton goalie Richard Welch. Brian Kennedy came back for the local team at 12:51 to end the scoring. On Saturday morning the American visitors rolled to an 8.3 victory over a hard-working Bantam team from Adastral Park, After two periods, Clinton N.Y, were ahead 4-1 and except for some fantastic goalkeeping by Steve Bartkow, the score could have been double. Don Clifford, John Hameline, Tom Stonier and Paul Hellmann gave the New York Jets their early goals before Sandy Porter scored for the base. Rick Green scored on the first play of the third period, to close the score a little before Dave Edwards scored on a good setup from Paul Halfmann. Sandy Porter scored the final goal for the baSe, vvh4 New York added three late goals by John timeline, Doug Smart and Paul I-lalfmann, The annual Base Commander's Curling. Bonspiel, held at CFBClinton on 17 January, was dominated this year by a CFB Clinton rink skipped by Cdrporal "Stan" Wight. On Tuesday evening in St. Paul's Parish 101, Lions and guests heard Rev. Roderick Macdonald of Loriclon,praise the Scottish poet, whose songs and ballads are sung and recited in nearly every country in the world at this time of year. Rev. Macdonald is minister at Dundas Street Centre United Church in London, but is being transferred to Washington, D.C. Originally from Glasgow, Scotland, Rev. Macdonald came to Canada over 20 years ago, and was in the business world before entering the ministry. The speaker was introduced by Lion Rev. A. J. Mowatt and thanked are Corporal "Bill" 'Stan" Wight accepting the trophy from ' Colonel "Pat" Ryan, Captain "Cec" Mason and Master Warrant Officer "Claude" Beauchamp, Sixteen rinks competed for by Lion Rev. R. U. MacLean. Orville Oke, Seaforth, chairman of Zone 3 South of District A-9, was on an official visit to Clinton Lions Club and met with the directors after the dinner. E. Beecher Menzies, in his usual fine Scottish brogue, gave Burns' address "To A Haggis." The Scottish delicacy was piped in by guest Hector Kingswell, with Maynard Corrie as chef, and Joe Murphy and Orville Engelstad as the carriers. Vice-president A. Laurie Colquhoun, who was chairman of the meeting, introduced head table guests, Mayor Don Symons and Lt.-Col. Orval Warner, acting Ease commander at CFB Clinton. Other guests included Budd Kuehl, Douglas Bartliff, Ben Straughan, Frank Mutch and Jabez Rands, from town, and early in the third period. On one turn on the ice, Langille scored on a long slap shot and set up Danny Colquhoun for two more goals. Bill Cantelon scored on the empty side of the net on a'nice setup by Robbie Stirling and Paul Kay. First star of the two games, Brian Langille, scored his second goal late in the third on a play from Colquhoun and Anstett. In the Midget game, the local team was outclassed by the squad from Mitchell to the tune of 11-3. Phillip Chessell scored three times for the winners and earned the award as their top player. David Slade, Clinton goaltender, won the award as Clinton's top star. the prized award, with entries from Sarnia, Goderich, CFB London, CFB Borden, CFB Clinton, Kitchener and London. Runners-up in the bonspiel was a rink skipped by Mr. "Ted" Novak of Kitchener, Major Tony Scott and Captain Spence Cummings, of CFB Clinitoen . The regular draw prize was won by Rev, A. J. Mowatt, Twelve Lions will operate the weekly bingo at Goderich Psychiatric Hospital on Wednesday evening, February 4. The annual Burns Night concluded with all joining hands and singing Auld Lang Syne. BY BERT CLIFFORD Despite the advantage of home ice, the Colts failed to gain any headway in their race for a playoff spot in WOAA Intermediate "C" action Thursday at the Community Centre. Randy Glew gave Clinton an early lead at 12:07 of the first period when he deflected a Don Bartliff pass into the net. The goal came after Milverton had failed to capitalize on several opportunities while they had a man advantage. Milverton came back at 18:20 on a two man break with Nahrgany scoring assisted by Bender and Bob Harrow, Harrow came right back to give Milverton the lead less than a minute later. Randy Glew tied the score again for Clinton early in the second but Harrow added another goal in the second and a third in the third. In the second he stole a pass intended for the Clinton point and scored on a breakawa Right after that Paul Draper p a shot right over the top of a empty net. The final goal came whe Harrow stole the puck with. 5 seconds left in the game an scored the insurance goal. Only six points separate th second and fifth teams in wha looks like a tight finish for th fourth and last playoff spot Clinton has two very importan games this week, both at home against Crediton on , Thurscla and Monkton on Sunday. Gary Jordan and Wayne Ducharme scored the other markers. Game two also ended in a shutout as Robert Taylor collected two, Richard Carter arid Terry Gordner one each in the 4-0 win for the Red Wings over the Leafs. The Ponies dominated their friends from New York in the second game of their total series. Greg Holmes put in a rebound from teammates Cook and McAdam. Then John Graham scored on a terrific shot from the point. Neil Colquhoun scored two quick goals in the third period on passes from Cook and David Clynick. Cook scored on a hard shot when McAdam 'fed him rink-wide pass. The Ponies had an excellent defensive game. Steve Starnes scored on a rebound in front of the net for a New York goal. The three stars were Billy Irwin from the local team, Ken Grabeldinger, from New York, and John Graham from the Ponies. Saturday night's Bantam game was like the Friday game. The visitors were ahead 2-1 on two goals by Doug Smart as they headed into the final period. Danny Colquhoun scored the early local goal. The first two periods the teams skated wide open and only excellent goaltending by Swanky Andrews kept the score so close.
