A CW meets
at St. Mark's
The January meeting of the
Anglican Church Women of St.
Mark's Church was held at the
home of the president, Mrs.
Donald 'Haines. She welcomed
the visitors and the members and
opened the meeting by singing
"Nearer My God To Thee" led
by Mrs. Gordon Taylor. This was
followed by prayers.
The scripture lesson, Hebrews
3:6.15 verses was read by Mrs.
James Schneider. The missionary
theme taken from the church
paper, "The. Northland" named,
"Plus Jesus," written by Violet
Mather, was read by Mrs.
Andrew Kirkconnell. It was very
interesting and told about the
church work at Fort George and
Moosonee and about Bishop
Watton opening a new church in
that district.
A reading — "A New Year's
Wish" was given by Mrs. Frank
Raithby. The topic — "Looking
Ahead" was given by Mrs.
Cartwright in the absence of
Mrs. Ed Davies.
After singing the hymn, "The
Church's One Foundation," the
program was closed with prayer.
The business meeting was in
charge of Mrs. D. Cartwright and
the minutes were read and
accepted as prepared by Mrs.
John Daer who was ill. The
financial statement for the past
year was given by Mrs. Andrew
Kirkconnell, the treasurer.
The Day of Prayer service to
be held on March 6 in St. Mark's
Anglican church, was discussed
and plans made for the program.
The roll call was answered
with a Bible verse telling about
the life of Jesus as a child.
The travelling apron received
a penny for each letter in
Andrew, James and John. Lone
Cartwright received the offering
which was dedicated with prayer
by Mrs. Cartwright,
Plans were made for the next
meeting which will be held at
the home of Mrs. James
Schneider.
After the benediction, an
auction was held by Mrs.
Gordon R. Taylor. Lunch was
served by Mrs. Cartwright
assisted by Mrs. James
Schneider.
1\4r$. Fred Middleton was
hostess for the meeting of the
A.C.W. of :St. James, Middleton,
held Wednesday afternoon
January 1d.
Present 'were 10 members,
two visitors and the Rector, the
Rev. E. J. R. Harrison.
The tresident, Mrs- Edward
Wise, opened the imeeting with
some splendid readings.
Year end items of business
were completed, after which 1Vir
Harrison conducted the annual'
instaiation of Officers. He
thanked the ladies for
appointing him to the office of
devotional eonyener.
Mrs. Wise asked the tnernbers
for their full and complete
co-operation in the coming year
and thanked her sister-in-law,
Mrs. Ray Wise for filling in for
four months as president, during
the incumbent's eonyalescence,
Mrs. Wise contributed a
reading by the well-known
psychiatrist Napolean Hill, also
an interesting of Michael
Qgoistes' book "The Christian
.Response". "It is better to light
a candle, than to curse the
darkness".
Mrs. Keith Miller gave the
secretary's report and Mrs. Alvin
Dutot a detailed financial •
statement. The roll-call was
answered by paying 'the
membership feeS. •
Mrs. Joseph Storey, the
Prayer Partner's Secretary passed
around a most exquisite

Rene Malanson,. six, of
Adasteral Park ' haS *returned
home from St. Joseph's Hospital
in London after undergoing an
operation on his eye. Rene, the .
son of Sgt. and Mrs. Malanson,
lost the use of his eye when hit
by a piece of ice' while sleigh
riding.
PEGASUS
The Pegasus Players have
chosen "The 'Happiest Days of
Our Lives" as their next play.
The club under the direction of
Mr. Brian Markson of Goderich
plans to present the play March
14 and 15th.

Various fund raising schemes
were discussed and it' was
decided to retain the
birthday-box and the baking sale
monthly fund, the latter to
include a recipe each month
with February's, a favourite
casserole dish.
There will be a party at the
Township Hall, Hotimesville
Friday evening, January 13. The
president contributed a timely
reading "Too True", after which
Mr. Harrison closed the meeting
with prayer.

hostess in serving a delicious
iunch;
The - A.C.W. of St. Jamei
Church appears to have gotten
off to a grand start for 1970.

The annual meeting of the
13rucefield United Church was
held on Sunday afternoon with a
fair attendance. Rev. E. D.
Stuart was in charge. Mel
Graham was appointed
secretary.
The different organizations
gave their reports of the year's
work showing a very successful
year. Stewart Wilson, the retiring
steward, was replaced by Don
Adams.
It was decided by vote that
the congregation dispense with
the evening service for
anniversary in October.
A committee was appointed
to deal with the maintenance
and service work of the church.
The meeting closed with prayer
by Rev. E. D. Stuart.
