I thought things couldn't get
much worse around old house,
but I was wrong - ear-shattering
wrong,
Most of you know that our
family consists of two music
nuts, ages 14 and 12, and one
cartoon Addict aged four years.
The two elder kids listen to
"pop" music from morn to
night. Everything In the house is
geared to the youthful eardrum
The radios in the house (there
are three) and the radio in the
car are permanently rusted on
the Windsor station that features
the top something or other every
five minutes. The record players
in the house (there are two) are
never idle - •or cool - for they
spin incessantly, grinding out, .the
sounds of all the best groups.
The tape recorder sits by the
radio, plugged and poised, ready
at a moment's notice to pick up
the newest noises to be played
and replayed heaven knows how
many times in a normal day.
And , the televisions (again
there are two) are the pride and
joy of the youngest in the
family. In the event that two
'cartoon shows are running at the
same hour, our little comic has
both televisions going, and
during commercials he races
between the two sets, never
missing much of anything.
But that was last week when
things were not too bad. This
week disaster struck.
' It all began when a friend of
our eldest son presented our boy
with a set of drum sticks. I
thought modern music thumped
before, but now that every beat
is accentuated by the rapping of
those infernal sticks, the music
fairly pounds me senseless.
Our budding drummer boy
does his rolls on the desk, on the
bed, on the floor, on, the coffee
table, the cupboard top, a stack
of magazines, the stair railing,
the back of the toilet, the linen
cupboard door or just about
anywhere hb gets the urge.
The other night when some
company arrived, our son
quietly 'and politely left our
presence and retired to his
upstair pedroom ..;WhRe
thumped the daylight's out of
the mattress, the pillows, the
window ledge and the lamps,
driving our guests into a
fractured frenzie, When I.
noticed our friends' heads
expanding and. .contracting .to.
the beat, I went to my ,son's
domain and asked him If he

disturbing line of endeavour for
the remainder of the evening.
He looked at me with those
huge pitiful eyes and fondled his
beloved sticks, "I was just
practising my roll," he told me, .
-`That's
In the face 41 one acoustic
disaster, .our youngest son
.discovered a hidden talent, He
can now manipulate the portable
record player - therefore no
room in • the house is safely
immune.

Councillor Cleave Coombs
presented a bylaw from Seaforth
Fire Area Board for township to
.consider and .sign. He said a
1.;500 gallon water tank truck
had been purchased at a cost of
$1,500. It was formerly used as
a milk truck and is of stainless
steel which Mr. Coombs
reported would give no trouble
with rust forming and affecting
pumps on the truck.
Members of council wish to
study the agreement further as
they were not satisfied with the
boundary line extending to
within 21/2 miles of Brucefield,
where TuPkersmith already has
half ownership in a fire engine
and a water tanker. Members of
council will insist that the
agreement must 'include the
clause - "Any non re-occurring
expenditures, over $150 or any
change in fire area agreement
must be approved by all
municipal councils concerned,"
Council will consider
agreement again at the next
meeting, on Jan. 22.
