Looking back over 'the last 10 ears is quite a hardship for me, specially when I remember that 10 years ago I was a very young houseivife and mother. Now Yin an old hag with a couple of teenaged problems to prove it. Ten years ago our life at the Keller household was relatively simple. I'm sure most of us lived a much quieter life 10 years ago if we will just admit it, because I'm certain the pace has at least doubled since then, Our life was wrapped up in getting a toe-hold on security. The children were small then and theirmants were much more in line with our pocketbooks. Why, 10 years at Christmas my eldest son dreamed of a •$4.98 gun and holster set while our daughter asked Santa for a doll's high chair at about $2.98! Our needs were different-then too. 'The children went to bed early in the evening and we had our evenings free to do those things which 'appealed to us. We Could watch the television shows that pleased .us, .we could listen to whatever radio stations we would chobse, we could have friends in 'for a quiet game of cards or we could go out, free frOm worry that we were depriving our youngsters from a trip somewhere or other. . ' The clothing budget was 'never in such a bind as it is today. A decade ago I was considerably slimmer than I am. today. Ten yeats of blissful contentment has resulted in some rolls and wrinkles which weren't there before. My husband had a- little bit more hair then, too, He's not near bald yet but almost every morning when he shaves, my spouse complains that he has more face to wash than the day previous. Ten years ago we imagined we were masters of our own fate. Today we know differently. Back then we had two children and figured it was a safe bet that's all the offspring we would ever have. We ended the decade with a three and a half year-old surprise which just goes to show that even if you think Teachers will retire at 65 in RC schools- BY WILMA OKE Separate school teachers must retire at age 65 under terms of a policy set by the Huron-Perth Separate School Bbard at a meeting in Stratford on Dec. 19. Because some persons on the instructional staff now are over 65, the policy will take effect gradually over three years - age for retirement in 1970 will be 68, in 1971 it will be 66, and in 1972 and thereafter it will be 65. In other business, the board agreed to a plan to provide fluoride dental treatment to Huron County students. Such a plan is already in operation in Perth. John Vintar, superintendent of education, said the official opening of the addition to St. Mary's Separate School in Goderich, is set for February. Both , Provincial Treasurer Charles MacNaughton and Education Minister William G,, Davis are expected to attend, he said. Adastral Park news BY CAROLE WARNER , ' On Wednesday, Dec. 17, the Women's Auxiliary and the Sergeants' Mess of CFB Clinton held a Christmas party for the residents of Huronview. Square dancers, soloists, folksingers, bagpipers and a children's choir provided the entertainment for the evening. The ' highlights of the party, however, were the presentations to the Home of a wheelchair from the Sergeants' Mess and of a tape recorder from the Women's Auxiliary. Sandwiches and tea were served later. The arrival of Santa Claus ended a delightful evening. You are in control of things, you seldom really are. That's why Pp making no predictions about the corning decade. I suppose the biggest change shows up in our professional lives, if you want to call it that, Ten years ago my husband was a farmer and I was ..a bored, busy housewife. Today hubby sells lumber to earn the bread and • butter and I've stumbled into this kooky, wild world of newspapering. Strange how fate takes a hand isn't it? Sit down and analyze the past 10 years of your life and I'm willing to wager you'll find it a bit of a shock even though you are well aware of the changes which have taken place, Even to try to predict what will occur in the next 10 years Would be ridiculous. I know I could never have come anywhere close to outlining the events of the past decade had I tried 10 years ago. Think about it for a while. It is frightening in one way but exciting in another. "0 blindness to the future, kindly given." °Let me take this opportunity to wish you and yours a very happy, healthy, prosperous New Year ... and may you have the wisdom to be content in whatsoever state you find yourselves.
