The Goderich Gun Club’s annual
Carling and Labatt Trophy Shoot
was held at Sky Harbour. The
team shoot for the Carling trophy
was. won by Kippen Gun Club
with a score of 10 7. Goderich was
second with 94.
Winner of the individual •La-
batt trophy was (Sant Dougall of
Hensall, with a score of 39. Com
petition in this event was extrem
ely close with three men tying
for second place as follows: Ash
ley Gilbert, Goderich, Lloyd and
Wes Venner, both of Hensall, with
scores of 38.
Hensall winners of cash and
fowl were John Anderson, Wes
Venner, Lloyd Venner, Sam Dou-
gall and Tom Sherritt.

President Mrs. S, Dougall pre
sided for the annual meeting of
the Women’s Missionary Society
of Carmel Presbyterian Church
last Thursday. The theme of the
meeting was Christmas and the
program was prepared by Mrs.
Harvey and Mrs. Dougall. The
scripture was read by Mrs. L.
Purdy and prayer was offered by
Miss Dora Allair. Mrs. B. Ed
wards read an interesting Christ
mas paper and Mrs. Malcolm
Dougall played a piano solo.
Arrangements were made for
the annual Christmas boxes to be
sent to sick and shut-ins, Yearly

W.I. Christinas Meeting
Christmas was the theme of
the Women’s Institute meeting
held in the Legion Hall last Wed
nesday night with a large attend
ance of members and guests. Ar
rangements were in charge of
Mrs. B, Edwards and Mrs. W.
Bell. Responsible for the decor
ations were Mrs. K. Buchanan
and Mrs. Wm. Clement (Auxiliary
members) and Mrs. W- Spencer
(Institute). Mrs. G. Armstrong,
presided for the meeting. Mem
bers responded to roll call with
a cash donation amounting to
819 in aid of the War Memorial
Children’s Hospital at London.
It was announced Mrs. Chaffee
would welcome knitted articles
for the Children’s Aid Society at
Goderich. Mrs. R. A. Orr has
wool on hand and members were
asked to make infants’ wear in
white.
Of great interest to all was
the address by Rev. N. D. Knox
of Exeter whose topic was "The
Season of Christmas.’’ Even the
pagan world was looking for the
birth of an extraordinary being
and great controversy took place
as to the correct date, Mr. Knox
said.
Rev, Knox was introduced by
Mrs. W. O. Goodwin.
Miss Beth Goddard played a
piano solo and carol singing was
enjoyed under the direction of
Miss Greta Lammie with Mrs. T.
Sherritt at the piano. iSeveral
contests followed and lunch was
served. Mrs. W. R. Dougall and
Mrs. James iSmillie will be host
esses for the January meeting.

Hensall Guides
Attend Council
Twelve Girl Guides with their
leader, Mrs. T. Lavender, Wit
nessed Hensall Council meeting
last week as part of their citizen
ship training. The group was wel
comed to council by Reeve A. W.
Kerslake.
Council set a fee of $5.00 for
rent of the hall by service clubs
for movies on Saturday night. A
deputation of Kinsmen, including
President Doug McKelvie and
Vice - President William Mickle,
appeared at the meeting and re
quested a reduction in the rent.
Boxing day, Monday, December
27, was declared a holiday.
Clerk-treasurer J. A. Paterson
reported tax arrears as being $1,-
533.21, or about four percent of
the total. He also reported the
percentage of voters who cast
their ballots in the election was
65.9.
The clerk reported the convers
ation he had by phone with the
sergeant of provincial police at
Mount Forest concerning the
speeding through the village on
Highways 4 and 84. The officer |
promised he would visit Hensall
in the near future.

Hensall Legion sponsored a
successful fowl bingo in the town
hall on Friday night. The win
ners were: chickens, Rex Dick,
Mrs. Dutot, Mrs. L. Legate (2),
Ed Munn, Dr. D. McKelvie (2),
Mrs. A. Clark, Ted Jones, Mrs. E.
Shaddick, Mrs. Wilkinson, Mrs.

Kinsmen Meet
At the Hensall Kinsmen Club
supper meeting last Thursday
night, one new member was ad
mitted into membership. It was
reported that the club had been
very successful in their Christmas
tree project. Anyone wishing to
buy a treg may do so by phoning
Dr, D. McKelvie, as they will be
available from now until Christ
mas. The winner of the draw was
Bill Rowcliffe.

night in Hensall United Church.
Sunday School classes, who oc
cupied the choir loft, were led by
Mrs. G. Hess with Mrs. J. God
dard as organist.
The Rev. W. J. Rogers narrated
the Christmas story which was
interspersed with musical num
bers by the choir. Marlene Ross,
Mary Lou McLellan, Marilyn Eyre,
Fay Ross, Maja Roobal and June
Ross sang "O Little Town Of
Bethlehem”; Maja Roobal and
Marilyn Eyre and Miss Mary
Goodwin and Mrs. Pearl Pass-
more sang duets; solos were sung
by Dr. ID. McKelvie, Mrs. Mock, Carolyn Smillie and Mrs. W. Fuss.

- On Sunday afternoon, Chisel
hurst United Church observed its
White Gift service. This took the
form of a combined service of
the Sunday School and congrega
tion. Responsible for the decora
tions were Mrs. B. Stoneman, Mrs.
Beatrice Munn and Mrs. P. Har
ris. Mrs. Boyce arranged the pro
gram.
Rev. Rogers presided. Bob
Munn and Alvin Taylor read the
Scripture Lesson. Little Elaine
Ross sang "Away In A Manger”.

lyn Eyre and June Ross sang "O
Little Town Of Bethlehem”. A
duet, "O Thou Joyful Day,” was

Boyce told the story, "A New
Right Arm,” and Mrs. J. Glenn
gave the prayer of dedication for
all White Gifts.
During the service, Rev. Ro
gers administered baptismal rites
to Larry Russell, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Russell Ferguson; Kathie
Jean, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Lloyd Ferguson, and Bevan
James, son of Mr. and Mrs. R.
Kinsman.
Famous Skater
Holds Classes
Miss Nancy McKenzie, of Lon
don, who is the professional at
the iSt. Thomas skating club, has
been engaged by the Hensall Com
munity >Skating Club and she will
commence duties on Saturday
from 4 to 6 p.m.
Miss McKenzie received her
amateur training under Otto Gold
of the famous Ottawa Minto Club
where Barbara Ann Scott train
ed. She turned professional with
the Ice Capades touring the Can
adian and American cities for five
years.
MlsS McKenzie produced two
successful skating shows for the
London Skating Club in 1951-52
in August of 1953 she went to
England and played in the ice
show at Wembly Stadium con
tinuously from November to the
end of March.
Oil Saturday, December 18, a
spectacular picture show, "Alice
In Wonderland,” will bo shown
in the town hall and a diraw will
be made for five 20 lb. turkeys.
