Fill Your Yule List With Hardware Gifts Admiral Although Mohawks posted a win and a loss during the -week, their official percentage slumped to zero: the loss counted but the win didn’t. The tribe pulled a spectacular win out of the fire Friday night by scoring three quick goals in the third period to nip Seaforth Baldwins 6-5 in an exhibition game; but Monday night, it was their opponents, the league-lead ing Walkerton Capitols, who caught ablaze in the third period to wallop Mohawks 8-2. To clear .themselves of Mon day’s humiliating defeat. Mo hawks will be skating all-out against Forest Lakesides in the local arena Friday night. The tilt with Lakesides should be one of the best of the season. Besides the rivalry between the clubs, there’s the added incentive that both strong teams are starved for wins. Lakesides, who hoped to sweep the league this year, are just batting .500 al though they’re still rated among the tops in the league. Mohawks, of course, are desperate for a victory. Haas, Penalties Costly Combo The combination of Walkerton’s Willie Haas and penalties can bust a game wide open, Mohawks learned in the Capitols’ stomping grounds Monday night. The tribe, leading 1-0 at the end of the first period and down just 3-2 in the second, found themselves knocked from con tention to humiliation in less than two minutes of the third because of this deadly duet, Camping on Gar Baker’s door step while Colle Bowman and Bruce Glen served sentences in the cooler, Willie Haas pumped in four goals between the 4.24 and 6.20 marks to break up the game. Sharp-shooting Willie fired his fifth goal of the period at 18.28 when Frank Anderson was off for a misdemeanor. Trendell was out with a sore knee and Frank Anderson centred both the kid line and Bill Musser and Doug Beatty. Mohawks Trim Seaforth Team Exeter Mohawks, bursting with three quick goals in the third period, skinned peppery Seaforth Baldwins 6-5 in Friday night’s exhibition. Goals by ry McEwen 90 seconds startling victory for the tribe. The fast, aggressive Baldwins were getting the best of the con test before Needham started the machine-gun scoring. Leading 4-3 at the end of the second, the Sea forth squad made it 5-3 at 12.30 of the third on an end-to-end rush by Jack McIlwain and Rick Elliot. Needham’s blueline shot hit the cords at 15.20 to set the Mohawks afire. Just 10 seconds later, Mc Ewen backhanded a softie along the ice which was fanned by Ron Salter, the Baldwin’s outstand ing goaltender. Caught off bal ance by McEwen’s quick play, Salter stumbled as the puck hit his skates and slid in. Don Gravett completed Mohawks' knockout punch with a solo effort at 16.50. Still handicapped by the shuff ling of lines, Mohawks were slip ping behind the charging Sea forth crew in the second period. Goals by Harry Chalk and Harry McEwen had left the teams even after the first stanza but the Baldwins quickly ran up a two- goal lead early in the second. Ron Muir took the puck from Pete Restelli at 15 seconds and fired home an ice-slider. At 3.40, Ron Mason intercepted Bill Hayward’s weak clearing shot and passed a goal to Marv Shantz at the mouth of Baker's net. Clayt Needham, Har- and Don Gravett in turned defeat into Red Loader and Frank Ander son combined to narrow the mar gin at the middle mark of the period but Don Stope made it 4-2 on a play with Dinny Larochelle. Mohawks took advantage’ of a Seaforth penalty in the last min ute of the period to stay in the game. Bowman completed a play by John Trendell and Gravett. McEwen, Loader, Anderson and Gravett picked up two points each on the night. One of the three RCAF per sonnel on the team, Pete Ellis, dropped from the roster before Friday night’s game because of a confliction between the Mohawk games and intersection hockey at the airport. Clayt Needham and Doug Beat ty, the other two airmen on the squad, intend to continue play ing. Hensall Juniors Wallop Exeter Hensall Juniors shellacked Ex eter Juveniles 9-1 in the first league game of the season in Ex eter Arena Monday night. Moir, Rennie and Bell starred for the Hensall team. Terry Wade scored the lone Exeter goal. Other teams in the league are Goderich, Mitchell and Lucan. TV-Appliances FOR ALL MEMBERS OF THE FAMILY SKATES With a marker in the second period besides, Haas chalked up the impressive total of six goals in one game. Jim ‘Red” Loader gave Mo hawks a 1-0 lead in the first per iod with the help of Walkerton’s George Zuk, Loader flipped a pass from the corner that Zuk deflect ed in the net at 11.33 for the first goal. Frank Anderson engin eered two breakaways in the per iod but the stellar Binkley in Walkerton’s net foiled him both times. The Capitols scored two goals ks in the first half of the second ra period but “Boom-Boom” Gravett ra tied the score with a slap-shot ™ goal at 17.35. Anderson fed Gra- ; vett a pay-off pass on the play. , A fluke goal with 15 seconds to go in the period gave Walkerton a 3-2 edge. The puck deflected i into the nets off a player’s skate. 1 Gar Baker turned away tons of ' rubber for the Mohawks. Barry ,Doak starred defensively. John Irish Suffer First Loss Zurich Flyers handed Lucan Irish their first defeat of the sea son Tuesday night by chalking up a 5-4 win in the Clinton arena. The win put Zurich in second place of the WOAA Group Four League, two points behind the Irish. Murray Colquhoun, Bob Hay- ter, Bill Yungblut, Doug O’Brien and Bill Hanley were Zurich scorers. Ray Yelle, with two, Fred Rev- ington and Ted Elder tallied for Lucan. Caps, Royals Top League A complete standing of the WOAA-OHA interlocking league, issued this week by Convenor Charlie Larder, Goderich, shows Walkerton Capitols and Milverton Royals tied in top spot.
