Wood re­ turned home on Tuesday after spending a week in Toronto and Dundas. Mr, and Mrs. Louis Gable, of Charleston, West Virginia, were visitors for several days with their aunt, Mrs. A. Brierly, and other relatives. On Saturday they attended the McLean-Body wed­ ding at St. Catharines.Mr. and Mrs. William L. But­ ler and Miss Nola Perkins, of London, visited Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Perkins on Sunday Miss Mildred Ballantyne, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Ballantyne, of Thames Road, joined the staff of the Bank of Montreal last week. Miss Isobel Ganton, of the high school staff, has returned to Toronto. She plans to spend the holidays at her parents’ sum­ mer home at Lions Head. Mr. and Mrs. V. L. Roulston and family, of Simcoe, visited on Sunday with Mrs. G. F. Roulston and Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Howald. The choir of James St. United Church held a picnic at the sum­ mer home of Mr. and Mrs. Law­ rence Wein, Norman Heights, last Thursday night. Burton, pastor of Centralia United Church for the past four years, will preach his farewell sermon to the con­ gregation on Sunday' morning. Rev. G. G. Burton and Mrs. Burton were honored by the con­ gregation of Centralia United Church at a social evening held in the Sunday School room on Tuesday night. A short program included pi­ ano solos by Elaine Powe and Shirley Rollings; a vocal duet by Catherine Hodgins and Carol Mc­ Curdy accompanied by Eleanor Mae Hodgins, and readings by Mrs. George Hepburn. Reg Hodgson read an address to Mr. and Mrs. Burton and Or­ ville Langford presented them with a purse of money on behalf of the congregation. Mrs. Kenneth Greb read an ad­ dress and Mrs. Reg Hodgson pre­ sented a cup and saucer to Mrs. Burton on behalf of the Women’s Association. Robertson Born In Exeter Mrs. Jessie Robertson, 75, died in Stratford Monday born at Exeter but had lived in Stratford for over 40 years. She was the widow of Peter Robert­ son who died in 1940. She is survived by a son, Peter, with whom she lived. Mr. Aljoe Sanders, of town, is a nephew. The funeral service will be conducted from the I-Ieinbuck funeral home on Thursday at 2 p.m. Rev. A. G. Madden, well-known cattle drover, died m St. Jo­ seph’s Hospital, London, on Sun­ day, June 20 after a three weeks’ illness. He spent most of his life in the Mt. Carmel district and was a member of the Church of Our Lady. Surviving are one sister, Miss Kate Madden, and a number of nieces and nephews. The body rested at the Hoff­ man funeral home until Wednes­ day when requiem high mass was sung at the Church of Our Lady, Mt. Carmel, by Father A Sealesi. Interment was made in Mt Car­ mel cemetery. Conduct Opening Exercises- Mrs. M. C. Fletcher’s Sunday School class conducted the open­ ing exercises at James St. Sun­ day School on Sunday morning. With Jim Sturgis acting as chairman, Bruce Cudmore led the singing, IriszTomlinson read the scripture and Keith Coates led in prayer.
