They met by telephone and pen. Why all this activity? There is to be a film night in the United Church School room on "Monday evening, March 15, at 8 p.m.^and plans had to be made. The pro­ gram will include films (different from those shown at the school during the day) and also solos, instrumentals and readings. White, Lucan Area Chairman of the H.E.P.C., gave a very interesting talk on electricity, stressing the need for careful checking of wiring, cords and appliances, especially the washing machine on a damp floor in the basement. For her wedding the bride chose a o street-length dress of pale pink nylon with navy acces­ sories and a corsage of gardenias and rosebuds. Mrs. William Wal- kom, London, sister of the groom, who was matron of honor, chose a blue taffeta dress with navy and white accessories and cor­ sage of pink carnations. The Rev. The new ex­ ecutive was installed by Mrs, T. S. Hill. W.M.S. president, and the initiation service for four new members was conducted by the Councillors. A sing song was enjoyed and Explorer Sheila Ire- dale took the worship service. The worship’ centres, made by the members were on display and Marilyn Culbert’s was voted the best. The belt project was completed. An invitation to par­ ticipate in a W.M.S. Family Night was read by Counsellor Iva Hodgins and the girls accept­ ed the invitation. March Lion Works Havoc The ferocious J954 March Lion, not satisfied with disrupting hy­ dro and telephone service, flood­ ing basements, uprooting trees, breaking branches and knocking down more than a half-dozen TV aerials, worked havoc with many Lucan activities. The Lions Club dinner sched­ uled for Monday night in the Anglican basement and the cut­ ting of choir surplices had to be held over till Tuesday. A.Y.P.A. and C.G.I.T. meetings in Lucan and the three night plays at Medway had to be post­ poned for a week. Pes-sonal Items Mr. ‘and Mrs. M. H. The Evening Auxiliary of the United Church quilted a quilt this week at the home of Mrs. Ivan Hearn. Mrs. Irene Coursey is on a month’s vacation and is enjoying a well-earned rest. The Lucan W.I. meeting is postponed till Thursday evening, March 18, and will be held in the United Church parlors and not the Anglican Parish Hall. Mr. and Mrs, Don Corman and family of Woodbridge have spent the last two weekends in Lucan, guests of Mrs. Corman’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roland Hodgins. They attended the Hodgins-Allison wedding in Exeter February 27 and the Isaac-Dickson wedding in Crediton March 6, Mr. Calvin Haskett was one of those in charge of the Hollings­ head display of the Middlesex Seed Fair. Congratulations goes to Clay­ ton Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Thompson, who has been invited to the Toronto Maple Leaf hockey school during the Easter vacation. Clayton has been a player on the midget team at Lucan and also the Parkhill sen> tor team this season. Mr. and Mrs. C. Owen Foster and family of London were Sun­ day guests of Mr. and Mrs. Mur­ ray Hodgins. Mr. and Mrs. William Hodgins, who spent their honeymoon in Toronto and Buffalo, returned home last Friday. They intend making their home in Lucan. Mrs. Jack Elson and small daughter, Peggy, have returned home after spending a week with her aunt, Mrs. Will Westney, of West Hill. Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Hedden spent Sunday in London with Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Hedden. Rev. A. -Aylestock, of Owen Sound, spent the past week visit­ ing her parents in Lucan. Mrs. Leo Morkin, Reith Pat spent the weekend in onto with Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong and family. The profit from the ham supper was repotred as being $121. A donation of $25 was voted toward the purchase of a sump pump for the parson­ age. The W.A, is to be in charge of the Lenten service on Sunday evening, March 21. A plea for bedding for the Five Oaks Training Centre was made and the members are to make two quilts, materials be­ ing donated by various members. The committee in charge is Mrs. Ed McFalls, Mrs. J. R. Murray, Mrs. Thomas Le’e and Mrs. Wes Hodgins. Mrs. Ira Carling, was appointed to obtain estimates for church carpeting and to report at the April meeting. Mrs.’ Cecil Robb conducted the worship period assisted by Mrs. J. R. Murray, Mrs. Wilbert Rev- ington and Mrs. T. S. I-Iill, who gave the religious history of St. Patrick. The guest speaker, Mrs. C. H. George, spoke on Northern Ireland, where • she and Dr. George were stationed for eight months during World War II. Mr. Elgin Hedden, formerly of Lucan, was the doorman at the Brass Rail, Dundas Street, Lon­ don, last Saturday at the time of the $1,3 60 hold-up. He had the cash boxes grabbed from hlB hands at the point of a gun. Mrs. K. Egan’s group of Holy Trinity Guild had charge of the postponed Lions Club dinner last Tuesday night. Everything had been ordered for the Monday night dinner but, with no hydro most of the afternoon, the dinner had to be held over till Tuesday. 'God's Universe Is Rational’ Prayer Day Speaker States Mrs. G. A. Wheable, London, was the guest speaker at the World Day of Prayer Service held in Holy Trinity Church on Friday Afternoon, March 5, for members of .Lucan and Clande­ boye churches. This year the theme was “That They May Have Life”. Mrs, ‘Wheable opened her ad-1 dress by saying What a privilege it was to join with the 118 coun­ tries of the world in one united and continuous 24 hours of prayer. She told of the large gathering Of London studehts to whom she spokd in the morning and of how she .envied them their many years of opportunity ahead of them. She based most of her inspiring remarks around two topics, “God’s uhiverse ik ration­ al and God’s ttiiivorse is well- planned”. She Summed uh her remarks with the two great com- maiidments “Love thy God and Love thy neighbor”. Mrs. T. C. McFarlane, presi­ dent of the Anglican W.A., and Mrs. T. S. Hill, president of the United Church W.M.S., had charge of the program. They Were Assisted in the prayers by Mrs. J. F. Wagland and Mrs. Harold Uodgins of the Anglican Church, Mrs. E. M, Cook and Mrs. George Paul of the United Church, Mrs. Joseph Graham Of the Pentecostal And Mrs. Andy Carter of St. James Church, Clandeboye. The two presidents and Mrs. Wheable, all paid tribute to Dr. Sarah Ohakko, of India, who adapted the service ahd whose sudden Ahd untimely death was such A shock to all, Mrs. Jack Elson of the Angli­ can Church was the' soloist. Her singing of “The Lord’s Prayer” was most appropriate. At Lucan's ice carnival on Fri­ day, March 12, the carnival queen will be crowned at 10:30 p.m. Anglican W.A. In spite of one of the worst storms of the season, 10 mem­ bers and one visitor attended -the March meeting of the Anglican W.A. held at the home of Mrs. F. W. Hovey Wednesday after­ noon, March 3. The president, Mrs. T. C. McFarlane, was as­ sisted in the devotions by Mrs. T. A. Hodgins and Miss Lina Ab­ bott, who read the prayers, Mrs. Jack Murdy, who took the scrip­ ture lesson, and Mrs. Erwin Scott, who led in the Litany. Surplices for the junior choir and dresses for the bale were given out to be made. Miss Lina Abbott moved a vote of thanks to the hostess and her assistants, Mrs. J. Murdy and Mrs. Janies Hodgins.
