Congregations Honor Minister The members of St. Patrick's, Saintsbury, St. Paul's, Kirkton, and St. Thomas, Granton, met in the basement of St. .Thomas Church on Monday evening. The congregations turned out almost to the last member to show the high esteem they had for their rector, Rev. M. R. Grif­ fin, Mrs. Griffin and boys. Mr. Ken Hodgins of Granton was chairman for a very enjoyable program in which the Paul^fam­ ily of Kirkton took part. The Griffins were called to the platform at the close of the pro­ gram and Mr. W. Irwin-read an address. The wardens of the three churches, Messrs. Hugh and Earl Berry, Kirkton, Ken and Norman Hodgins, Granton, Heber Davis ’ and Raymond Greenlee, of Saintsbury, presented the guests of honor with a purse of money. Mr. Griffin spoke briefly thank­ ing all, not only for the gift; but for a happy two years in their first home in Canada. In his pleasant manner he dispelled the gloom which everyone felt, and all enjoyed a social hour to­ gether. Mr. Warner McRoberts had an uninvited guests at his home last weekend. When his furnace fire refused to go, he discovered a 16 lb. coon lodged in the chim­ ney. Neighbors were called to the rescue and “the squatter” was ■finally not only ousted from his winter quarters, but also shot, to prevent a return visit. Philip and Joyce Wagland, small children of Rev. and Mrs. J. F. Wagland, were most dis­ appointed to have to miss out on the pot luck supper and child­ ren’s .party at Holy Trinity Church last- Monday because of illness. Christmas guests with Mr. and Mrs. N. W. Branch 540 held a most success­ ful New Years Eve dance in the Community Memorial Centre. Some of the committee were most thrilled to have the Free Press not only take pictures for the paper but to see themselves on T.V. Little six-year-old Barbara Park, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Park, won the hearts of all as little New Year '54. Her father, as Father Time, enacted the passing of 19 53. With music, noisemakers and cheers, the large attendance ushered in the new year. London Car Accident Injures Six Mrs. Aleene Varley, of Elgin- field, was sent to Victoria Hos­ pital January 3 with a broken right knee and shock received in a four-vehicle accident on High­ way Ave - near concession 13, London Township. Joe Kramer, 29, a Granton farm hand, was also sent to the same .hospital suffering head and back injuries, a broken right leg and possible internal injuries. Trouble began when a car driven by Walter Varley smashed into the rear of a wagon loaded with sawdust. Soon two other cars were in the pile-up whose drivers were unable to stop on the icy roads. Eagleson, Ailsa Craig, Trinity Church Enjoys Supper The pot luck supper* and nual Sunday School party congregation and children of Holy Trinity Church were held Monday evening, December 28. In spite of colds and hockey games, there was a good turji- out. After enjoying a splendid supper in the basement all re­ turned to the Parish Hall for pictures, children’s .program and distribution of gifts. Though the program was mostly impromptu, all enjoyed the little people. Only one child got completely stage- struck and refused to perform. Another was tongue-tied until a chum 'came to her assistance. The program consisted of instru­ mentals, solos, duets, recitations and tap dancing. Mullins, of London. Miss Lucy Breen Biddulph Native Funeral services for the late Miss Lucy E. Breen, 70, who passed away at the House of Pro­ vidence on Tuesday, December 29, were held from the C. Has­ kett and Son Funeral Home, Lu­ can, on Thursday, December 31, to St. Patrick’s Church, where requiem high mass was sung at 9:30 a.in. Father J. A. Mackesy officiated. Interment was in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Pallbearers were Anthony Lamphier, Joseph Grace, Sr., Austin Mcllhargey, Michael Powe, James Blake and Patrick Toohey. • Miss Breen was a well-known resident of Biddulph for many years before moving to London. She attended the Lucan High School. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Breen. Mrs. Sovereign’s group had charge of the wbrship ’service which consisted of a Yule story from the Missionary Monthly and a reading, "What Does Christ­ mas Mean To Me?” by Mrs. Lock­ yer. TownTeen A very happy time was had members of Lucan Teen Town December 30, which took the form of a skating party at the arena followed by dancing in the auditorium. The meeting closed with hot chocolate and cookies. A special thanks goes to Mrs. Freeman Horne's mother, Mrs. H. Young, who donated most of the cookies.
