At Ed. Mc­ Bride’s four apple trees were up­ rooted in the orchard and seve­ ral in the bush and part of the roof of their barn was blown off and landed on the road. Robert Dalrymple reported a window smashed in their living room. William Coleman and Rochus Faber had shingles blown off their barns and half a dozen maple trees in a grove in front of the house on the Fotbes farm were uprooted, Alex McMurtrie reported his chicken shelters were damaged but the chickens were not injured. Kitchener Shooter Wins Kippen Meet Wilfred Hartman, Kitchener, won the Kippen Gun Club trophy after a shoot-off with Harold Greenway of Ridgetown in the Kippen Club’s Labor Day shoot. High over-all of the shoot was Tom Oliver, Toronto, and Charlie- Parkinson, London, who tied with 66 out of 75. A total of 3,400 targets were shot Monday making it the largest shoot ever held in Kip­ pen. Shooters were present from Toronto, Kitchener, Ridgetown, Stratford, London, New York, Chatham, Goderich and Exeter. Legion Ladies Auxiliary The Ladies Auxiliary to the Hensall Legion opened in usual form in the Legion Hall. Plans are to hold a weiner roast at the home of Mrs. Ross Dick on Sep­ tember S, members to meet at the Legion Hall at eight o’clock. In case of rain the‘roast will be held September TO. The mystery prize was won by Mrs. Bertha Moir. A pot luck lunch was served and a social hour enjoyed. W.M.S. Meets Chiselhurst Women’s Mission­ ary Society held their September meeting in the church basement Tuesday afternoon, September 8. In the absence of the president, Mrs. Harold Parker, the chair was taken by Mrs. T. Brintnell who conducted the devotional assisted by Mrs. William Brine- nell. Mrs. J. Glenn offered prayer and Mrs. Bert ,Wren read the Bible lesson. The study book, “Whereas The Sun,” was pre­ sented by Mrs. Carl Stoneman assisted by Mrs. Ben Stoneman. It was voted to send a card of thanks to Mr. Wilbert Parker for the lovely mirror he donated to the ladies to be used in the kitchen of the church. A brief meeting followed by the Women’s Association with Mrs. Roy McDonald in charge assisted by Mrs. Clarence Cole­ man. Minutes were read by Mrs. C. Coleman. The group decided to hold a baking sale in the fall, the Mission Band to be in charge of the tea and candy. Personal Items Girl Guide meetings for the fall will begin with a supper hike on Tuesday, September 15. Any girl who has passed her eleventh birthday and w ho would like to become a Girl Guide is welcome to attend this or any meeting to obtain information on the work of Guiding. Mr. and Mrs. William Soldan and son motored to Quebec, City and other eastern points last week. Stokes, of London, visited recently with her mother, Mrs. Eva Carlisle. Over 150 Pupils At Hensall School Hensall Public School opened on Tuesday with three new teachers on the staff and an en­ rolment of 156 pupils. Mr. Robert Reaburn, formerly of Chesley, is the new principal, replacing Mr. John Blackwell who is teaching in the suburban area in London, Mrs. Grace Forrester, of Ham­ ilton, will teach grades 5 and 6 and will replace Miss Winnifred Gray who is teaching on the staff of the new public school at Clin­ ton. Miss R. Avery will teach grades 3 and and Mrs. R. Elgie, grades 1 and 2, replacing Miss Margaret Schieck, who is teaching in Galt. Mrs. Howard Scane is teaching the kindergar­ ten class which has an enrolment of 23. Personal Items Mr. and Mrs. Lome Eiler have returned from a delightful trip to Sudbury and North Bay, re­ turning home via Michigan. Miss Bernice Jinks, nurse-in­ training at Victoria Hospital, London, visited this week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Man- ley Jinks. Warden. A. W. Kerslake and Mrs. Kerslake motored to Ot­ tawa where they spent the week­ end holiday. Mr. and Mrs. William Forrest and their two sons, Edison and Ross, left for a trip to Marquis, Sask. Mrs. Earl Treffry, Cromarty, had the misfortune to fall and fracture her left arm. Her many friends hope for a speedy re­ covery to health again. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Kinsmen, Bob Bell and Ross Riley are en­ joying a holiday in the West. Lloyd Venner of Hensall top­ ped the Goderich Trap Shoot’s 16-yard event at Goderich with a score of 24, while A. Gilbert and William Beck tied for top honors in the handicap shoot, both shooting 22, with a 23 handicap. Mr. and Mrs. David Kyle and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Kyle en­ joyed a motor trip to Ottawa and took the boat trip at the Thou­ sand Islands. Miss Jean Motisseail, of Lon­ don, spent the weekend holiday at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Mousseau. Mr. and Mrs. William Simpson, Bill and Bob, of Detroit, were weekend visitors with the for­ mer’s mother, Mrs. Lou Simpson. Misses Helen Moir and Betty Moir, Mr. M. Falgario, London, and Mr. Bert Barry, of Seaforth, were weekend visitors with Mrs. Bertha Moir. Mr. and Mrs. Robert MacLean and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Plumb motored to Huntsville and points north last week. Polio Cases Slightly Improved We are pleased to report Master Jackie Consitt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russel Connsitt, is sufficiently improved from an attack of polio to return to his home here. Mrs. John Woods (nee Nellie Irwin), 35 years of age, shows a slight sign of improvement. Mrs. Woods, the mother of two child­ ren, is confined to Victoria Hos­ pital, London, in a paralized condition. 7 Hensall Native Dies In London Funeral services for Mrs. Harry Manuel, of London, who died on Sunday in St, Joseph’s Hospital, London, after several weeks ill­ ness, were held Tuesday. Mrs. Manuel, the former Lettice Cooper, was born near Hensall, daugter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Cooper Forrest, and had been a resident of London for 50 years. Surviving are her husband, one son Harry Manuel, London, and three grandchildren. She was 75. "Heredity can be an awful thing,” "Yeah. A fellow could give it to his whole family!”* ♦ * ?
