Owned by F. 0. Grand Bend, it is mainly under forest cover. Purchase price uu- der the option was a total of $600, slightly less than $16 an acre. Pollard, Glen weeks' holidays at In their predictions of the re sults of Monday’s election, Elmex- D. Bell, president of the Western Ontario PC Association, and Fred Darling, president of the Huron Young PCs, both predicted Elson Cardiff would win the Huron rid ing by 1,000 votes. They came close, as the final figures show Cardiff’s majority to be 1,617. Mr. Bell’s figures on the na tional vote were; PCs 115, Lib erals 110, others 40, and Fred Darling’s prediction was PCs 85, Liberals 155, others 25. Final party standing was PCs 50, Lib erals 171, others 44, showing Fred Darling made a good guess on the first two parties, while Elmer Bell was only-four out on “others”. E. H. Beaver, president of Ex eter PC Association, underestim ated Elston Cardiff’s majority by over 1,200 and was out by 85 for the PG '•~J — ±’- * erals in the Mayor W. G. Cochrane predict ed a victory for Andrew McLean in Huron by a majority of 300 to 5 00 which wasn’t even close. However, in the national results his prediction of 185 for the Lib erals was against 171 actual count and his guess of 53 for th'e Liberals was only three from the final figure. Garnet Hicks, the president of South Huron Liberal Association, prediction of a win for Andy Mc Lean by 110 votes has been proved in error, while in the national results he was only 24 out on the Liberal party and hit the Conservative figure correctly at 50. B. W. Tuckey, former Liberal provincial candidate, predicted a majority for McLean of 200 to 300 votes which was out by near ly 2,000 votes. On the national vote he predicted 195 for the Liberals a difference of 24 and he also guessed the PC vote as 50 which it was in the final standing. — ...- flliif PASSES TESTS — Shirley son, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Pearson, passed her teacher’s course in Toronto with high honors. May I express my sin cere thanks to those who worked so faithfully in my behalf.” Pipe Band Leads Parade The Canadian Legion Pipe Band from Mr. Cardiff’s home town of Brussels provided the ■color and the marching music for the traditional victory pa rade, which carried Mr. Cardiff and his party through the riding in the small hours of the morn ing. Beginning at Wingham, where a chartered Wingham High School bus took the pipe band aboard for the tour of the riding, the motorcade tlxa.t formed be hind Mr. Cardiff’s car visited Blyth and Brussels, and then went to the county seat at Gode rich, arriving the town a few 1:00 a.m. At Goderich marched around Mr. Cardiff walking ahead, and a crowd of people on foot and in cars followed the band. From Goderich the parade continued to* Clinton, Seaforth, and Exeter, with the pipe band dismounting to march down the main street Of each town. For Mr. McLean, one Of the ^problems of the evening was to find his opponent, to congratulate him on his victory. As soon, as the swing to Cardiff became ob vious in the trend of the returns, the workers in the McLean com mittee room at Seaforth started trying to locate Mr. Cardiff by telophone so that Mr. McLean •could speak to him directly, and voice the sentiments of a good loser. It was not until 2:00 a.m, that the two candidates finally ■came together at Seaforth, and were .able to shake hands. in the middle of minutes before the pipe band the circle, with Lyric Theatre Phone 421 Previews Its Coming Attractions FRIDAY & SATURDAY August 14 and 15 Bonzo Goes To College ★.
