Page 6 THE TIMES-ADVOCATE, EXETER, ONTARIO, THURSDAY MORNING, JULY 30, 1953 SNELGROVE'S Proclamation Monday, August 3, 1953 Is Hereby Proclaimed A Holiday FOR THE TOWN OF EXETER W. G. COCHRANE, Mayor Start A Career In A Fine Service Enlist Now In Royal Canadian Air Force To young Canadians with the ambition and determination to succeed, the RCAF offers a career in aviation second to none. Here is YOUR, opportunity to receive a valuable education in the new and expanding field of aviation. Visit The RCAF Mobile Unit and have a chat with the Recruiting Officer; will be in EXETER Friday 4:30 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. If not convenient, fill out the coupon below and mail to RCAF Recruiting Unit, London, Ontario. —s If 1 Playground Patter By DOUG SMITH Now that the boys and have recovered from Cowltoy and Indian thought we would cool their heels and way Christmas in about. At the time they haven’t as yet spirit. But I am happy there are some Santas in town. In a ver. predated move Ross Tuckey Beverages has treat for the boys and you guessed right -— the children, their By out, away girls; their hectic week, we help them that is the July came of writing caught the to say behalf, the time Trudy on her appropriate and ap- Tuekey of donated a . girls. Yes, pop for all Thanks Ross, on this edition comes Pickard will be vacation so I can let the cat out of the bag. Trudy has done a wonderful job and we sure are going to miss her— not only the staff but the child ren and they are showing how they feel by joining forces and presenting her with a little gift, Occasions like this make feel as though this work is help ing boys and girls in .some way. No for Christmas in July — from the start the boys and girls know there is just one Christmas and we are ‘making you believe’ all this week. However, on the playground we have a Santa Claus mailbox and each ; day a different group writes i letters to Santa. Before we start i the afternoon session, they are ] read out to the group. It’s amazing how these letters show the thoughts and feelings of the hoys and girls. The ones that say “I don’t want very much be cause I know there are lots of hungry boys and girls” and the one that read, “I would like a steam shovel to help my Daddy dig the foundation for our new house”, speak for themselves. In craft periods, the children are making decorations for their Christmas tree on Thursday. Each group decorates its own tree and it is competitive. The best one will get a prize, Carols and Christmas songs are being taught and Christmas stories told. Gifts will be ex changed on Friday and carols sung around the big Christmas tree. What better feeling could we have this week, with the signing of an armistice in Korea, than “Peace on Earth—Good Will to All Men.” Announcements BIRTHS DICKSON—To F.-L. and Mrs. Ron ald F.
