Church to honor Mary Snell on the eve of her wedding. The evening was spent playing games under the direction of Anne Taylor and Joyce Haugh. For the presenta­ tion of gifts, Mary was seated beneath a decorated umbrella from which numerous gifts cas­ caded. Anne Taylor brought in a wagon load of gifts while Joyce Haugh read the address. Lunch was served <by Mrs. Harry Hoffman, Mrs. Syd Baker and Mrs. Ervin Schade. Pitt-Snell To Reside In London A lovely June wedding was solemnized in Dashwood E.U.B. Church Saturday, June 13, when Mary Melissa Snell, daughter of Mr. and 'Mrs. Charles William Snell, Dashwood, was united in marriage to William George Pitt, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Wallace Pitt, of London. The church was decorated with baskets of spring flowers and candles. Rev. J. H. Getz, of Kitchener, performed the ceremony, assisted by Rev. W. F. Krotz. Mrs. Ken McCrae played the wedding music. Mr. T. H. Hoff­ man sang "Because” and "The Lord’s Prayer” during the sign­ ing of the register. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a strapless ballerina gown of white nylon net with full skirt over taffeta trimmed with a white satin sash and net bolero. Her fingertip veil was caught to a headdress of satin and lace and seed pearls. News of Kirkton 8-7 the his the honors at a be held in the team were Basil Laverty,Jim Art Ford, Louis Kirk Mr. And Mrs. Burt Wed Sixty Years Saturday, June 13 marked a very special day in the lives of Mr. and Mrs. J Charles Burt, of Gore Bay, Manitoulin Island, who at present ar© with their daughter Edith at Dashwood with whom they have spent the winter months of the past 10 years. It marked the sixtieth anniversary of their marriage. The couple were married 60 years ago in St. Wilfred’s Church, Haywards Heath, Sussex, Eng­ land. The day following their marriage they embarked on the steamer Vancouver, sailing for Canada. Upon arrival in Canada they came directly to Manitoulin Island, landing at Manitowaning. The journey was continued with team and .buckboard over cordu­ roy roads, eventually arriving at their destination. After enjoying the hospitality of some friends for a time, they purchased some land near the site of their son’s fox ranch. After two years residence there they came to Gordon township and in a short time became per­ manently located in 19'0'3 on the farm their younger son now works, and where they still have a home they go to in the sum­ mer months. During these 60 years practi­ cally all of their time has been spent on Manitoulin except for a four-montli visit to their home­ land in 1925, sailing on the Empress of France; and the winter months of the past 10 years spent with their daughter at Dashwood. Of their family of five child­ ren, three are living, James of the bank of Montreal, Minde- moya, Alfred, of Gore Bay, on the farm, and Edith, 'Mrs. Ed­ ward Turnbull, of Dashwood. There are also seven grand- childen and three great grand­ children. The festivities commenced with a family reunion dinner Friday night on the arrival of their sons, their wives, the youngest grandchild and oldest great grandchild and a very happy time spent. Mr. and Mrs. Burt were then “at home” to their friends Saturday, June 13, during the afternoon and eve­ ning. Many called to offer their good Wishes on this auspicious occasion. Besides those calling in person a great many cards, messages and gifts were re­ ceived. Included ih these was one from Her Majesty Queen Eliza­ beth It conveying good wishes for their happiness on this diamond anniversary; also on© from their relatives in England. During the evening while a number of friends were pteSeht, Mrs. Kading pinned a corsage of yellow* roses and baby breath oh th© astonished bride, while Mr. Max Turnbull read ah ad­ dress and Mrs. Pepper presented them with a beautiful gift. Smith, 81, who died suuddenly from a heart attack at the home of John Williams, day in the St. Marys, here in Cemetery, to the family. At the close a delicious lunch served by Mrs. A. Knox, Copeland and Mrs. Irvine. Mission Band Party The Kirkton Mission Band of the United Church held their annual June party Friday night. As their guests, they entertained the members of the Woodham Mission Band along with their mothers. A very appropriate worship service was given by the Woodham members followed by a program from the Kirkton .Band which consisted of piano and vocal duets. Colored pictures on "Young Africa Talks” were much enjoyed. Lunch was served by the members of the Kirkton Mission Band. It was decided to request the extension course, "Cooking Short­ cuts,” of the last week in Octo­ ber preferably. Mrs. Mac McNaughton is to represent Clandeboye at the forthcoming fiftieth anniversary of the district at Coldstream. A very complete and interest­ ing report of the District Annual at Keyser was given by Mrs. Louis Kilmer and Mrs. Karl O’Neil. A donation of $25 was voted to the Tornado Relief Fund. Mrs. Karl O’Neil was appointed branch convenor of Resolution, the office vacated by Mrs. Harry Tilbury. It was decided to ask Miss Agnes Turnbull, Home Economist for Middlesex and Elgin counties, to speak at the July meeting. Mrs. Murray Thompson thank­ ed the members for the gift she received as retiring president. A well prepared paper on Home Economics and Health was given by Mrs. Rae Neil. The program chairlady, Mrs. Rupert Williams, conducted a game of "Honeymoon” for a relaxed half hour. This was followed by a contest won by Mrs. Murray Thompson. Lunch was served by the committee, Mrs. A. Macin­ tosh, Mrs. Alvin Cunningham, Mrs. L. A. Kilmer and Mrs. O’Neil. Meetings are being with­ drawn during July and August, Showers For Bride-Elect , Miss Ruth Schwartz was honored by some 35 friends who attended a miscellaneous shower at the home of Mrs. C. W. Par­ kinson Thursday night. The home was tastefully decorated with white bells and pink and white streamers with a decorated chair for the guest of honor. Evening's entertainment was convened by Mrs. Lloyd Hey. A contest was conducted by Doris Schwartz, fol­ lowed by a mock wedding. After opening her gifts Ruth thanked her friends and invited them all to attend her trousseauu tea on June 24. ■ Mrs. Russel Finkbeiner and Mrs. Allen Pfaff were hostesses for a shower for Miss Ruth Schwartz at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Schwartz on Monday evening. Following an address read by Mrs. Finkbeiner, little Miss Shir­ ley Pfaff and Master Douglas Finkbeiner presented the guest of honour with a profusion of gifts. Ruth expressed her ap­ preciation. Mrs. Pfaff conducted contests. Observe Children’s Day Children’s Day was observed in the Evangelical U.B. Church on Sunday. Children’s choir led in the singing at the morning service and members of th© church school presented a very fine program in the evening. A film was shown, "At Home With God”.
