Hensail And District News Kirkton-Born Ward Allan Wins Vl/O Fiddlers Title Ward Allan, Wingham, 28, was chosen grand champion fiddler of Western Ontario at the Championship Fiddlers Con test held in the Hensall Arena Friday night before an estimated crowd of 1200. A recording of his prowess at the fiddle was made immediately following announcement of his winning the contest, agd will be sent to Queen Elizabeth as a Coronation gift. Ward, horn in Kirkton, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Allan, and has the distinction of winning first prize in the fid dler’s contest at the Canadian National Exhibition in 1949 and 1951, and copping top honors at many local contests. During his musical career he has played in many bands and was for years with the CKNX Dance Gang at Wingham. More than 50 fiddlers part in the contest from Western Ontario, and far into the night they sat in on choosing of the champion fiddler of Western Ontario. One fiddler was well known to area fiddlers. He was William Hyde, Hensall, 89-year-old vete ran of 7 3 contests. He wron the class for men over 75 years of age. It was his fifty-fourth first prize in fiddling contests. Dur ing his 77 years playing, he has captured 71 prizes, including 54 firsts, nine seconds, seven thirds, 1] silver cups and two medals. She also leaves to mourn her passing one son, Ronald, nine years old, and two daugh ters, Sandra, eight, and Roselee, five; also her mother, Mrs. Pearl Love; two sisters, (Margaret) Mrs. Harold Jones, of Kippen, and Miss Edith Love; and two brothers, James and Wayne Love, all of the Parr Line. The body rested at the Keith Westlake Funeral Home in Zur ich until Saturday when public funeral services were held from her late residence, conducted by Rev. Love, of the Presbyterian Church, Bayfield, of which the deceased was an ardent member and organist at the time of her passing. He was assisted by Rev. Martin, of near New Hamburg, and also Rev. Heimrich, of the Lutheran Church, Zurich. The pallbearers were Dewar Talbot, Harold Jongs, Wesley Mc Bride, William Armstrong, Gor don Gilbert and James Cleave.
