Mr. and Mrs. Ray Wuerth were in Detroit for the weekend. Word has been received in Exeter of the death of Dr. Ben­ jamin E. Lang, aged 73, who for 42 years was a practising physician and surgeon in Van­ couver, B.C. Surviving are two brothers, Dr. W. H. Lang, of Vancouver, and Rev. David Lang, of Newfoundland. Mr. Herman Prior, of Por­ tage la Prairie, Man., visited with his sister Miss Olive Prior over the weekend and called on old friends. Mrs. Ingamells and Mrs. Steiner were classmates at Brockport Normal School and had not seen each other for a number of years. Mr. and Mrs. F. A. May spent the holiday at Sarnia. Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Sweitzer and Jim spent the weekend at their cottage at Beach O'Pines. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Knight of Kitchener were their guests on Monday. ■Mrs. Valeria Armstrong visited wtih Mr. and Mrs. Orville Web­ ber and family, of Varna, over the weekend. Miss Janet Kestle, of spent the weekend with Mrs, Victor Kestle. On Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hodgert and family, of Toronto, who were visiting in the community, called on them. Miss Maxine Parsons visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Parsons, over the weekend. London, Mr. and Monday, Edmund J. Shapton Active In Church Mr. Edmund J. Shapton, well known, life-long resident of this district, died early Wednesday at South Huron Hospital where he was taken after suffering a stroke at his home on Monday evening, He had been in his usual health and had worked on his lawn in the afternoon. He did not regain consciousness after being stricken. Mr. Shapton was horn in 'Ste­ phen Township seventy-seven years ago and was the last sur­ viving member of the family of the late Thomas and Mary Shap­ ton. Following his marriage to Edith Westcott nearly fifty years ago, they farmed in Stephen, re­ tiring to Exeter years ago. He was a member of Stephen council for several years. A member of James Street United Church, Mr. Shapton sang in the choir and served on the official board for many years. He was honorary president of tlift choir. Surviving besides his wife are several nieces and nephews. The body is resting at the Din­ ney Funeral Home where a pri­ vate service will be conducted by the Rev. H. J. Snell on Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. Interment will be made in the Exeter ceme­ tery. She was the former Ethel May Kestle, only child of Josiah and the late Mrs. Kestle and was born in Stephen Township on the farm now owned by Wesley Wein, Following their marriage, Mr. ■and Mrs. Whiting lived on his farm near Parkhill for six years, coming to their present home in 1926. She was a member of James St. United Church and of the Adult Bible Class. Surviving besides her husband are two sons, Stanley and Nor­ man, at home; three daughters, (Blanche) Mrs. Don Murray, and (Melba) Mrs. F. B. Hamil­ ton,. both of London, and Jean, at home, and her father, Josiah Kestle. One 'son, P/O Donald Whiting, lost his life in the Second World War, in August 1944. Three grandchildren also survive. The body is resting at Dinney funeral home where Rev. H. J. Snell will conduct funeral service on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be made in Exeter cemetery.
