MEET THE CHAMPS -— These happy bowlers just copped the Labatt Trophy, symbolic, of the Exetei* Men’s Bowling Association championship. The Keglers will be awarded the trophy at the anual banquet on Friday, May 8. They are (left to right) Dick Watson, Bern McLean, “Pop” Watson (captain), Lew Busselle, Jim Preston and Roger Guay. The two outside men are not quite in the picture but they were very much in the game. Watson was of particular help in the semi-finals and Guay has been consistently good. —T-A Photo Choose John Hicks School Leader John Hicks, versatile Exeter athlete, will represent South Hur on District High School on this year's London ders' Club. Son of Mr. Hicks, John is . . dent and participates in track and field, football, basketball and volleyball. An award- winning scholar, he has served as presi dent of the athletic society. John calls basketball his favor ite sport because natural ability and tion. The South Huron the use of films, and the length ening of physical training periods would help improve athletics in the schools. He says communities should take a greater interest in school athletics. They help build char acter in the participants and pre vent juvenile delinquency. Honor Champs Keglers Claim Labatt Trophy The Keglers will ibe honored at i Exeter Bowling Lanes, the annual banquet this week as I The Keglers have a fair bowl- the first team in the history Online- rftnnwl for th a sonson. Dll vine: the Exeter Men’s Bowling Asso ciation to win the Labatt Trophy. The Labatt Trophy represents championship honors, the Labatt firm donating the award to the league in January of this year for annual competition. The Keg lers will receive individual tro phies but the cup will remain in ling record for the season. During H^e regular schedule they fin ished sixth in total pins (without handicap) and eighth in the points standing. They bowled 44,- 355 for 45 games, an average of 986 per game. Lew Busselle averaged 197 for 60 .games, Jim Miller (69) 191, Pop Watson (38) 188, Jim Pres ton (42) 180, and Dick Watson (36) 163. Bob Mclnnes bowled 21 games early in the season with a 195 average. Miller has left the team and Centralia to take part in Coronation. Most of the members are force personnel. Spares To Receive Kist Cup The Spares, the league's team during the regular season, will receive the Kist Cup Friday night. This cup is awarded an nually to the team finishing the schedule in first place. Bowlers Make Fair Showing Four Exeter district bowlers participated in a five-pin tourna ment in Waterloo last Friday night. Bern McLean, Roger Guay, Ren6 Francois and Ken Hockey joined Ingersoll bowler Bill Chamberlain in the sojourn. While the lads expect to win no hand-painted finger-bowls as a result of their efforts, they did make a commendable showing. They average 225 per man in the team score.
