The Exeter Times-Advocate,
Exeter, Ontario.
Dear Mr. Davis:
The very keen interest that is
taken in your area in the game
of five pins has been mentioned
to us by our representatives, Mr.
Millman and Mr. Stewart. We
have also learned that a trophy
for the men’s league there would
be acceptable.
It will give John Labatt Limit

Labatt representative “Slim”
'Stewart assured us the trophy
could be expected in about two
weeks.
The Labatt Trophy — which
will be awarded the league
champions—and the Kist Cup—
awarded to the league winners—
will fill a gap that has been evi
dent since bowling first started
in this district.
Perhaps the addition of these
trophies so generously donated
by Mr. Labatt and Mr. Ross Tuc

them in annual competition.

The victory gives the locals a
shaky won-lost record of four-
ten over the season. The team,
however, is much better than the
books show mainly because it
was handicapped by a late start,
some bad luck, and a one-bad-
inning jinx. Although the Eagles
couldn’t get out of the second
division, they provided tough
competition foi’ the top teams in
the league.
The locals shook that bad-
period jinx Monday night against
the Hensall crew. They spurted
to a 4-0 lead in the first period
and held a comfortable margin
all through the tilt.
The win should make the Ex
eter boys favorites in the coming
playoffs series with Hensall for
the Cyclone “B” title and the
right to go on in W.O.A.A. play
offs. The locals won both of the
home-and-home regular games,
Nevertheless the playoffs
should be a ding-dong battle be
tween these two clubs. Exeter
won the first game only by the
skin of its teeth after Hensall
staged
ly to
locals.
On
first period, the clubs settled
down to a close brand of play.
The only marker in the last two
stanzas was scored by Hensall in
the second.
Ron Pincombe fired the first
goal for Exeter six minutes after
the opening whistle when he and
Buzz Cunningham combined on
a play. George Shaw scored two
minutes later with help from
Doug Smith and Wally Woods.
Pincombe scored his second of
the night at the 15.12 mark,
a terrific third-period
almost overthrow
Monday night, after
ral-

the
Lawson getting the assist. Doug
Smith notched the fourth Exeter
tally 42 seconds later.
G. Hildebrand scored for Hensall* in the middle of the second
stanza. Cowan earned a point
for contributing on the play.
Three minutes later Campbell,
a Centralia airman who ap
peared in Exeter and Dashwood
uniforms before joining Hensall,
tangled with Buzz Cunningham
in the Exeter zone and the fight
electrified the players and fans.
Tempers were testy for the rest
of the game but nothing serious
happened.
St Marys 6Z Exeter 5
St. Marys Alerts poured in
four goals inside of five minutes
of the third period to edge Exe
ter 6-5 Friday night.
The stone town boys started
the rally when the locals were
a man short. Before Exeter
could stem the drive, the win
ners had overcome a 4-2 deficit
and taken a 6-4 lead.
Before that happened, Exeter
was well on the way to its
fourth win of the season, They
were behind 2-1 at the end of
the first, but outscored the
homesters 2-0 in the second.
George Shaw scored his third
goal of the game in the first
minute of the third period to
give the Eagles a comfortable
4-2 lead.
Near the middle of the stan
za, Bill Tuckey was thumbed for
holding and when he argued the
point vigorously the whistle-
tooters added a misconduct. The
locals suffered from the loss,
because Tuckey, who has showed
