Boll call was answered with '‘Something I would like to see accomplished by the Institute in the coming year’*. A, “Happy Birthday” was sung to the members with birth­ days in January. A euchre party sponsored by the Institute will be held on February 3 in the Legion Hall in Exeter. Mrs. William Johns, Elimville district representative of South Huron Hospital, gave a report of the last auxiliary meeting and invited everyone to visit the hospital on opening days, Janu­ ary 29 and 30. A bus trip to London was discussed but left to decide at a later date. The new Institute song books have been bouglit.The motto, “Lend your­ self to others, there is no such thing as selfish happiness,” was given by Mrs. Warren Brock. The Singer sewing machine demonstration was given by Mrs. Gobbons, of London, showing different attachments used and fashion stitches done on the sewing machine. Lunch was served at the close by Mrs. Philip Hern and her committee. The February meet­ ing will be held as Family Night. Personal Items Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Johns, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Johns, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bell, Miss Ruth Skinner and Mr. Laverne Skin­ ner were Monday evening dinner guests with Mr. and°»Mrs. Alvin Cooper. / The Elimville euchre club met Tuesday evening with Miss Verda Kellett as hostess. Winners of the prizes for the evening were: ladies’ high, Mrs. Roy Johns: men’s high, Mr. Philip Murch, and low score, Mr. Everett Skin­ ner. The next party will be held on Friday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Penhale as hosts. W.M.S. Meet The W.M.S. meeting was held on Wednesday, January 21 at the home of Mrs. W. J. Moores. The Scripture Lesson was read by Mrs. C. Gilfillan and a reading was given by Mrs. Wil­ liam Routly, “I remember Af­ rica". Rev, W, J. Moores gave the topic. Mrs. William Johns had charge of the business meeting. She also read a poem, “The Road of Life”. Roll call was answered by the paying of fees. Mrs. Ross Skinner took charge of the W.A. business. It was decided that Rev. Moores and the church committee be in charge of buy­ ing a screen and lamp for the projector. The installation of the execu­ tive of the Y.P.U. will be held at the morning service on Sun­ day, February 1. Mr. Harvey Sparling, president of the Lon­ don Conference Y.P.U., will be the special speaker. Revere Forum “Lots of food but problem to sell it” was the topic for dis­ cussion at the Revere Farm Forum held at the home of Mr. and Mrs, Hillson Foster. The next meeting being review night, a social evening is being planned with Mrs. Soster, Walter Mulleu, Mrs. L. Dykes and William Moses in charge. Those with suggestions for topics for next season’s broad­ casts are asked to send them in. Mr. Bert Nixon was appointed discussion leader for the fourth series beginning February ?. The meeting will be held at the home of Mr, and Mrs. Oscar Metiers when “The Farmer aud the Public” will be the topic of discussion. Congregational Meeting The congregational meeting of the Granton United Church was held in the basement of the church and was well attended. Rev. G. C, Raymer presided. All reports showed a good year with a membership of 272. Mr. Gordon Dann was appoint­ ed general chairman for the an­ nual garden party. Members of the session are R. Elston, W. Gregory, T. Gunning, W. Lam­ bert, M. Baker and John Bryan. Personal Items Mrs. Edgar McFalls of Lucan and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Mc­ Falls of London called on Mr. and Mrs, Harry Swartz and Mr, and Mrs. Ronald Swartz of Cen­ tralia last Wednesday. Mr. Bob Stanley, of Toronto, spent last Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Stanley, Sunday visitors with Mr, and Mrs, Bob Coleman last week -were Mr. and Mrs. Lome Mc­ Falls from St. Thomas, Mrs. Harold Dickins from Rochester and Mrs. Frank Coates and Mr. Dick Hunter from Exeter. Dr. Ken Banting and Mrs. Banting were Sunday visitors with the former’s parents, Dr. W. F. Banting and Mrs. Bant­ ing. Mr. John Wood, a veteran of World War I, is in Westminster Hospital, where last Tuesday it was found necessary t oamputate his left leg above the knee. He Is progressing as well as can be expected. Granton Mrs. N. Gunning was hostess for the W.M.S, meeting, with Mrs, Thomas Gunning presiding. The program was in charge of Mrs, G, Devine and Mrs. M, Mc- Crady. Taking part in the de­ votional were Mrs, Rodd, Mrs. E. Middleton, Mrs. K» Garrett, Mrs, D. Morley and Mrs. Nichol. A solo by Mrs. W< Cook was taken by Mrs. McGrady, Mrs. Devine, Mrs. K- Garnett and Mrs. Clare Westman. Each member was asked to bring a prospective member to the February meeting which will be held at the home of Mrs. Rodd. Mrs. Devine and Mrs. McCrgdy assisted Mrs. Gunning to serve refreshments. Mrs. C. W. Hawkshaw was the guest of honor at a birthday gathering at her home last Tuesday evening. No one seeing and hearing her at the Anglican Church organ twice each Sunday would dream she has reached her four score years. Her many friends extend congratulations and hope she will be spared to play for many more years. Dr. J. J. Talman, librarian of U.W.O., was the guest speaker at the thirty-first annual con­ vention of the Middlesex School Trustees’ and Ratepayers' Asso­ ciation held at Arva on Satur­ day.Mr. Joseph Ingram, who had. a recent heart attack, is still very ill.The Ladies Guild of Holy Trinity Church are sponsoring a movie to be held in the parish hall Monday evening, February 2, showing the royal tour. Paton, of the Clandeboye School Board, attended the Middlesex Trustees and Ratepayers meet­ ing at Medway School Saturday, Mrs. William Cornish celebrat­ ed her eighty-first birthday at her home on Wednesday, Janu­ ary 21. She entertained her family to an oyster supper. Guests were Mr, and Mrs Tom Gilmour and family, of Mc­ Gillivray; Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Lindenfield and family, of Exe­ ter, and a sister, Mrs. Harry Riggs, of Port Huron. Mrs. Wilfred Dixon enter­ tained in honor of her daughter Mary’s birthday on Sunday. The guests were Patricia Gil­ mour, Marjorie and Jackie Brint- nell, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Powe, of Exeter, were guests at supper on Friday of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Paton. Mr, Douglas Carter met with an accident in London Saturday evening when he lost control of the car he was driving and hit a tree. The car was badly dam­ aged and he had his chest bon'e broken. The other young people in the car were not injured. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Pyke and Priscillia were driving home from London a week ago when the car hit some ice and turned over near Birr. The car was damaged but they were fortun­ ate not to be injured. The Sunday School of St. James Church has purchased a six octave organ for the Sunday School room. Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Logan and Myrna, of Thorndale spent Sunday evening with Mr, and Mrs. J. H. Paton. The thirty-first annual con­ vention of the Middlesex Trus­ tees and Ratepayers Association was held in Medway High School, Arvn. on January 24. The devotional period was led by the Rev. J. H. Jared, Arva. Dr. J. J. Taiman, librarian at. U.W.O., Was the guest speaker.- Mrs. A. R. Moore, Stratford, president of the association, spoke on problems relative to trustees and schools. Field director, Mrs. Jean Wat­ son, Innerkip, .spoke on “Safety First”, and Mr. G. H. Dobrindt, London Normal School, dis­ cussed the new two year course. Mrs, Harvey Tilbury, leader, and the Clandeboye Club Girls attended Achievement Day at Strathroy on Saturday. • Members who attended were Margaret Anh Henry, Marlene Thompson, Janet Scott, Marie Carter, Sylvia Barnes, Gloria Bowman, Irene Hamilton, Edith Carter and Blanche McIntyre. Hillcrest Hahn Forum Hillcrest Farm Forum met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Atkinson Monday evening. Following the 'Forum broad­ cast the evening was Spent in playing progressive euc.hte. Mr. Henry Belling is visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bell­ ing and family in Exeter. Miss Evelyn Bullock is spend­ ing some time with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dawson, of Thames Road.. Mr. Ed. Walper had the mis­ fortune to have three fingers amputated in a saw last week. Master Jim Williams, of East Williams, spent the weekend with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Hicks. A number from this district attended the banquet of the Farmers Co-Operative in Park­ hill Community Centre last Wednesday night. Mrs. Norman Kleinfeld, Exe- te, spent a couple of days last week with her sister, Mrs. Ervine Eggert. Mrs. Eggert was able to have the cast, which has been on since August, removed from her leg. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Dettloff and Richard, of Detroit, sent the weekend with Mrs. Albert Pol­ lock. Several of the executive of the Greenway United Sunday School are attending the Leadership Training Classes being held at Dashwood, Crediton and Grand Bend, Mr, Neil Romphf was able to have the cast taken off his leg last week. GACKSTETTER United Church Annual Meeting The annual meeting of St. Andrew's United Church, Kippeu, was attended by over 100. The supper was served by the managing board assisted by the men of the congregation. Mrs. (Rev.) McLeod proposed a toast to the Queen. A toast to the men, proposed by Mrs. Harry Caldwell was responded to by Mr. William Bell. Mrs, Ross Broadfoot, John Caldwell and Joan Sinclair pro­ vided the musical portion of the program. Rev. McLeod was chairman of the meeting and Emerson Kyle, secretary. The minister reported a membership of 250 of whom 13 had joined during the year. Mr. Robert McGregor gave the financial report. A total ot $4,529.00 Was raised in 1952 of which there is a substantial balance on hand.
