Country Postmasters
The scale of wages to douatry post
masters has been finall passed upon
by the Postmaster-General and his de
partment. In future the minimum
salary of a country postmaster will be
$35, while at present the minmum
salary is $25. On the first $800 rev
enue the postmaster now ge's 40 per
cent. Hereafter he will get 50 per
cent. On the first $1,000 or all over
$800 and up to $10000 he now g^ts 25
per ceht. In fature he will get 30 per
cent, on a'l over 81,000 and up to
$10,000. At pre.enthe is allowed 15
per ceht on all over $10,000 and in the
future be will get 20 per cent. And
allowance for nighb duty is now paid
when a postmaster has to be on duty
after 10 p.rn. or 6 a.m , the minimum
pay for this being $6 and the maximum
$60, according to the time employed
and the work done. It has now b eb
decided to change the hours to 9 p.m.
and 7 a.m., and to make the minimum
allowance $10 and the maximum $100.
The preent scale is 10 per cent, pn the
revenue of the offices for which for
ward duty is performed when the for
warding is done direct, ond 5 per cent
when indirect or through another for
ward postoffice. The new scsle is 12
per cent for direct an 1 the same for
indirect forward duty.

Great Demand for Harvest
Help.
Western farmers want men for late
harvest—0. P, R. will run exUa ex
cursion. Although several thousand
men have gon; west on earlier excur-
sionsthe demand for harvest help still
considerbly exceeds the supply, latest
advices from Winnipeg stating that
farmers everywhere are sho:thanded.
Despite rumors of frost and snort
crops, there is well paid work in the
field for all comers. A last opporunity
is offered by the Canadian Pacific,
which has arranged to run an extra
Farm Laborers’ Excursion to Winni
peg, leaving all Ontario stations, east
and west, Tuesday, September 17th.
Same conditions will apply as on ear
lier excursions, going trip $12 00 ; Re
turn for $18.00 additiona', afte/ at
least one month’s work harvesting.

by “The Assessment Act, 1904,” Sec
tion 143, s. s. 1, that a sale of lands
for Arrears of Taxes will be held at
the hour of ten o’clock a. m. at the
Council Chamber County Buildings in
