Oue of the largest funerals which has entered Wingham cemetery was that of the late John Taylor, of Zet­ land, 2| miles west of Wingham, on Sunday afternoon. Mr. Taylor, who was in his 80th year, was one of the earliest settlers and one of the most widely known and highly respected residents of Wawanosh Township, to which place he came from Cook sville in 1855, coming previously from County Monnoch, Ireland. In October, 1849, he was married to Miss Eliza Margaret Taggart, at Hamilton and for 58 years they shared each other’s company, and eight years ago celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. To them were born three sons and five daughters being:— M essrs. John Taylor, of London; Robt Taylor, of Wingh-un; Mrs. McAndlish of Nelson, B.C.; Mrs. A. Fraelick and Mrs Wm. Gray, of Wingham ; Miss Fannie Taylor, of Winnipeg, and Lil­ lian and Bert, at home. Deceased had been ill for several months and gradually weakened till Friday last, when death relieved his sufferings. The funeral services at tbe house and grave were conducted by Rev. Mr. Boyle, rector of Wingham Episcopal church, of which he was an attendant. The pall bearers were :— Messrs John Haigh, G. H. Douglas, W. J. Douglas, R. T. Douglas, G Lees and W. J. A. McGregor, of Lucknow. Among those from Lucknow to attend the funeral were-.-Mrs. G. Dou­ glas sr., Mrs. Lees, Mrs. G. H. Dou­ glas, Misses Annie, Jessie, Jean, Dor­ othy and Jean Douglas, the a Misses Jessie and Jean Lees., and Mr. A Mc­ Manus. Over one hundred rigs joined in the funeral procession. Mr. Taylor took no active part in municipal or political matters, but was a supporter of the Conservative party. For many years he was a prominent member of the Orange Or­ der and in earlier years was known as one of the best fifers in the country. Mr. Taylor was an uncle to Mrs. George Douglas, Lucknow, and Mr. John Haigh, 6th con., Kinloss.
