Merry Christmas & Many Thanks
from Vern and Family
Annual concert held at church
The thing about a Christmas
concert such as was held at
Londesborough United Church on
Friday, Dec. 16 is that the
performers are among friends and
mistakes are accepted not criticized.
This makes for a less tense attitude
and children and adults alike can
take part, gain a little confidence and
experience performing.
The Brohman family began the
evening as they have for three years
now with a show. This year’s was
“The Night Before Christmas”.
While Teag, helped by Dad, recited
the story, his sisters, Brette and
Darcie, helped by Mom, moved
around cutouts for use on an
overhead projector.
Barb Bosman emceed the programand played piano accompaniment forseveral numbers.Young piano players who filled thesanctuary with Christmas tunes were
Kiara Driscoll, Chloe Elliott, Sara
and Sydney Hunking. Also tinkling
the ivories with duets were a pair of
sisters, Marsha Szusz and Christine
Moore.
Vocal carols were offered by Eli
and Sadie Baxter with the help of
Mom Erica. Erica and two nephews,
Jake Yantzi and Quaid Kerr, and a
niece, Madelyn Yantzi, sang a pretty
number of Carly Simon’s, “The
Heart of Christmas Is You and Me”.
A pair of young girls with holes in
their smiles, Elianne Kreuger and
Shayna Hunking, told everyone that
“All I Want for Christmas Is My Two
Front Teeth”.
“When a Child Is Born” was
nicely sung by Paige Gibbings.
Three sisters, Michelle, Darlene and
Louise Lobb sang “The Little
Drummer Boy”. The beautiful “O
Holy Night” by Brittany Lyon was a
beautiful addition to the concert.
A mother and daughter duet of
“Silent Night” was offered by Sara
and Kim Hunking. Reading scripturepassages and playing an Africandrum to related music was QuaidKerr. The men of the Londesborough
choir did a fun number, “My Rusty
Chevrolet”, to the tune of “Jingle
Bells”. The ladies of the choir
offered a Christmas wish for peace
and love. A lovely duet of “Silent
Night” was played by Barb
Bosman on piano and John Jewitt on
violin.
Also singing and doing tricks to
the enjoyment of the children was
Daisy in her light-up Santa costume.
A Christmas reading by Brenda
Radford reminded everyone to see
the face of Jesus in everyone we
meet. Gordon Shobbrook brought a
touch of humour to the evening with
two recitations. One many of us can
relate to was titled “When I’m an
Old Lady and Live with My
Children”.
In spite of the lack of snow, Santa
Claus arrived to the delight of the
children and listened to their
Christmas wishes. The adults
enjoyed coffee and treats following
the pleasant evening.
Keeping them in stitches
Teag Brohman, accompanied by father Barry, kept
everyone smiling and laughing at the third annual
Londesborough United Church Christmas concert on
Friday Dec. 16. The Brohman clan, consisting of Barry and
Teag, as well as Kendra, Brette and Darcy, started things
off with a very special telling of the Night Before Christmas.

The pupils of Hullett Central
Public School presented a fun
concert of music on Tuesday
evening, Dec. 13. Mrs. Barnett had
chosen the songs well. As always the
primary pupils were entertaining
and some a trifle stage struck. All
grades demonstrated the value of
having a music program as part of
the curriculum. Varieties of
snowmen, reindeer and snowflakes
done by the classes decorated the
walls of the auditorium to put
everyone in the mood. Barb Bosman
played piano accompaniment for the
songs.
The senior band, made up of
pupils in Grades 7 and 8, showed the
progress they have achieved since
September. The band began the
concert with “Jolly Old St.
Nicholas” and “Up on the
Housetops”.
Kindergarten A sang “Christmas
Is My Favourite Time of Year” and
held up props such as presents, cards
and decorations, etc. to show why.
Kindergarten B sang, “The Colours
of Christmas” and their Christmas
decoration props were in reds,
greens, gold, etc. The two classes
performed an action song, “Jingle
Bells”, with bells jingling on their
arms.
In red chef hats and aprons and
carrying mixing bowls and spoons,
Grade 1 students offered “Making
Christmas Cookies”. “Cool Santa”
was the Grade 2 class’s number
dressed in Santa hats and
sunglasses. A rap number, “Santa’s
Job Is a Snap” was done by Grade
2/3 students. In red and green elf
hats the children clapped and
snapped. The song started out telling
how easy a life Santa has but by the
end of the song the children had
changed their minds, realizing Santa
really works hard all year and
especially on Christmas Eve.
Grades 4, 5 and 6 sang “The
Tree”, about choosing and
decorating a Christmas tree and
making a wish on it. This number
showed advanced choral singing
having parts singing. Then Grades 1
through 6 combined for two songs,
“Frosty and the Hand Jive” in which
the older pupils did hand jives and
“Getting Ready for Christmas”.
We just wanted to say
“Merry Christmas”,
and “thanks” for calling
on us this past year.
We appreciate your
kind patronage.

and Dianne

PEOPLE AROUND LONDESBORO
As this is the last edition of The
Citizen before Christmas, John and I
wish all of you the merriest of
Christmases and the warmth of
family and friends with whom to
celebrate.
This week’s Christmas quote is
attributed to Frank McKibben: “This
is Christmas; not the tinsel, not the
giving and receiving, not even the
carols, but the humble heart that
received anew the wondrous gift, the
Christ.”
The following is this week’s
Christmas trivia. In ancient times a
yule log was burned during the 12
days of Christmas celebrations.
Sometimes a piece of that log was
kept to start the fire the following
winter. Superstition has it that the
good luck would be carried over
from year to year.
The answers to last week’s
Christmas songs are: leave and
broadcast from an elevation is the
carol “Go Tell it on the Mountain”
and jubilation to the entire terrestrial
globe is “Joy to the World”. Now
puzzle these for a week: Wanted in
December – two forward incisors
and I beheld a trio of nautical vessels
moving in this direction.
Londesborough United Church
will hold a Christmas Eve service at
7 p.m. Offering on Christmas Eve
will be donated to the Mission and
Service Fund unless otherwise
noted. In addition, remember to
bring along your sock of money for
the Mission and Service Fund. There
will be no service on Christmas
morning. Services will resume Jan. 1.
