PeeWees tie Cyclones
The Blyth Brussels PeeWee AE
team travelled to Listowel Memorial
Arena on Dec. 10 to take on
the Cyclones and came away with a
tie.
The first period would almost
remain scoreless with both teams
battling hard until Listowel would
strike the first blow with 1:05 left in
the period to take the lead.
Blyth Brussels would answer back
in the second with Josh Gibbons
banking a shot off an opposing
defenceman and fooling the Cyclone
netminder. Wyatt Machan assisted
the goal.
The Cyclones would retake the
lead two minutes later and hold it
going to the dressing room.
The third period would prove good
for Machan as he would score from
a sharp angle at the 5:31 mark
unassisted and 2:15 later would net
his second assisted by Drew Van
Wyk to give Blyth Brussels the lead
for the first time this game. The boys
fought hard but the Cyclones snuck
one in with a little over a minute
remaining to tie. The final minute
would remain scoreless for a 3-3 tie
keeping the team’s undefeated streak
intact.
The Blyth Brussels PeeWee AE
squad’s next game is Friday night at
7:30 p.m. in Brussels against the
Mitchell Meteors.
Novice LL drops three close games
The Blyth Brussels Novice Local
League team travelled to Zurich
only to realize the game started
earlier than anticipated.
After the squad got dressed in
record time, Jeffery Waldon came
out and scored in the first period
unassisted.
The second period was back and
forth for both teams as Walden
scored one more goal, assisted by
Mitchell Townsend. However,
Zurich tied it up to go into the third
period.
Walden scored one more in the
third period unassisted to notch his
first hat trick of the year.
Zurich tied it up and with 17
seconds remaining and then put
another past netminder Ty McNichol
who played well between the pipes
and kept the score close making
great saves. The team worked very
hard and had many, many chances to
put one past the goalie.
The team also recently took on
BCH on Dec. 4 and Seaforth on
Dec. 3.
Even with both teams best efforts,
BCH tied the Novice squad 3-3 and
despite goals by Walden and
Brayden Radford the Blyth Brussels
squad lost to Seaforth 3-2.
The Blyth Brussels Novice Local
League team also faced off against
Mitchell on Dec. 15 however a
final score was unavailable at press
time.
The team next takes to the ice on

The Blyth Brussels Novice AE
squad was once again on the road,
this time to Monkton for a much
anticipated rematch against Elma-
Logan on Dec. 10.
The team skated very well and the
passing and scoring chances were
great, however, Elma-Logan came
out ahead 5-0. Christopher
Pennington was very busy in net and
made some really great saves.
The team now looks forward to a
home game on Saturday,
Dec. 17 against the Drayton
Defenders.

Ice to be removed for off-season
Two representatives from Clinton
volunteer groups were successful in
lobbying Central Huron Council to
remove the ice at the new
community complex by April of
2012.
Una Roy from the Clinton Public
Hospital Gala Committee and
Angela Cullen from the Clinton
Kinette Club came to the Dec. 5
meeting of Central Huron Council
concerned about a fundraising event
for the Clinton Public Hospital
Foundation that would require use of
the entire Central Huron Community
Complex building, including the
arena floor. Cullen and Roy wanted
to ensure that a performance they
had planned for the night next spring
would be able to proceed.
Kevin McLlwain, who was Chief
Administrative Officer at the time,
said there had been preliminary
discussion about spring and summer
hockey camps, but that nothing had
been finalized. He said April is when
the ice at the new complex was
scheduled to be removed anyway.
Steve Campbell, Central Huron’s
facilities manager, said a full
evaluation would have to take place
to determine who planned on using
the arena floor throughout the spring
and summer and who was hoping to
use the ice.
He said if the ice was to be left in
the complex over the spring and
summer months, a number of
activities would suffer, including
rentals for parties, such as buck and
does, and male and female ball
hockey leagues.
A motion was then made by
Councillor Brian Barnim to remove
the complex’s ice in April as per the
regular schedule, which was carried.
