County Council shrunk by four
representatives was held in Clinton
on Nov. 30 and it wasn’t without its
disagreements over the four missing
councillors.Huron County solicitor GregStewart made an unorthodoxpresentation at the meeting, dealing
with as much of the issue as he could
in public session, although several
closed sessions followed the
discussion.
“I’m trying to do most of mypresentation in open forum,” Stewartsaid, “so the public will have anunderstanding of the impact of this
decision.”
Stewart also referred to the
situation as “awkward” as he is the
representative for Huron County
(encompassing all nine of itsmunicipalities) but he was on theother side of the courtroom againstthose municipalities that felt council
should lose four of its
representatives (Ashfield-Colborne-
Wawanosh, Bluewater, Goderich,
Howick and Morris-Turnberry).
As a result of Superior JusticeGorman’s decision in November, thebylaw passed by Huron CountyCouncil in 1999 will be valid on an
ongoing basis until it is changed by
council.
