Ryle (1) For one thing, begin reading your Bible this very day.The way to do a thing -- is to do it; and the way to read the Bible -- is actually to read it! It is not merely meaning or wishing, or resolving, or intending, or thinking about it -- which will advance you one step. You must positively read. There is no royal road in this matter, any more than in the matter of prayer. If you cannot read yourself, you must persuade somebody else to read it to you. But one way or another, through eyes or ears -- the words of Scripture must actually pass before your mind. By Marilyn Craig Call 523-9318 From Marilyn’s Desk Coming together A fundraiser was held for Blyth’s Jim Johnston on Saturday night at the Blyth and District Community Complex. The event was a success with all 400 tickets sold out and thousands of dollars raised for the resident who was seriously injured in the Aug. 21 tornado in Goderich. The evening featured a silent and live auction as well as plenty of good times. Here Johnston, left, chats with Carol and Roger Haines. (Jim Brown photo) Food bank gifts are really a gift for Jesus Greeting worshippers at Blyth United Church on the second Sunday of Advent were Barb and Doug Howson. Ushering were Brenda Brooks, Nicole Kerr and Gary Trudeau. Lynda McGregor was organist in the absence of Floyd Herman. Fred Hakkers ran the power point. Ava Ansley lit the candles at the front of the church. Rev. Clark welcomed everyone to church and drew everyone’s attention to the announcements in the bulletin. Tessa Bibok and her grandmother Helen Timmons lit the second candle in the Advent Circle: The Candle of Peace. The first hymn was the first two verses of “Hope is a Star.” The call to worship was the singing of the response of “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” followed by the prayer of approach. The children were asked to come to the front of the church for their story time. Rev. Clark pointed out to them that the church was all decorated for Christmas. He asked the children what decorations they might see in their homes this Christmas Season. There were many answers. Christmas trees, lights, presents (some in Mom’s closet). Rev. Clark asked them what else and they said the food for the food bank. This is a gift to those people who can not afford food for their families. When we give these gifts we are giving gifts to Jesus. The children said a prayer along with the congregation. The children went NEWS FROM BLYTH Can’t decide what to give for Christmas?
