Local rink competes at tourney
The Kyle Forster foursome from
Belgrave had a disappointing day
on Saturday as they lost two games
to Exeter rinks at the junior zone
playdowns held at the Wingham
Golf and Curling Club on the
weekend.
The foursome of skip Forster,
third Matt Hallahan, second
Bradley Conner and lead Matt
Cottrill were the favoured rink
going into the tournament as they
were highly ranked in the province.
In their first draw against an
Exeter rink, they fell 9-8. In the
foursome’s second draw, against a
second rink from Exeter, the
Forster rink lost 10-7.
The Matt Dickson rink from
Palmerston was the A winner
and the Tommy Gorman
foursome from Exeter took the B
final.
Both winning rinks advance to
the regionals this weekend in
Kingsville.

Bantam girls topple Lucknow, bring record to 7-1-1The Blyth Brussels Bantam Girlschalked up another win when theytoppled Lucknow by a score of 3-1on Nov. 22.Good goaltending from Lucknow
kept the score from being more
lopsided than it already was.
Hitting the scoresheet was
Mackenzie Nesbitt with two goals
and an assist, Tiffany Deitner
with a goal and an assist and
Teresa Atkinson with an
assist.
The Bantam Girl squad also tookto the ice in Tiverton and came awaywith a 7-0 win on Nov 21. Lindsay Shiell got another shutout,her third of the season, and all the
girls played well both on the offence
and defence.
Ashley Higgins led the way with a
hattrick and an assist, Kathryn
Chalmers had two goals and single
markers were scored by Nesbitt and
Taylor Higgins.
Nesbitt also had two assists with
single assists being awarded to FaithSebastian, Lauren Bedard andAtkinson.The two wins, part of a four-gamewinning streak, bring the girls season record to 7-1-1.The team also faced off against theMitchel Meteors on Nov. 27 and the TCDMHA Rebels on Nov. 30,but scores were unavailable at press time.The Blyth Brussels Bantam Girlsare on the road on Dec. 3 to take onNormanby. The puck drops at 11:30 a.m.
The Blyth Brussels Bantam Reps
have continued their undefeated
season streak with wins over
TCDMHA, Shallow Lake and the
Wiarton Wild and a 3-3 tie against
the Hanover Falcons.
The Bantam squad squeaked by
the Wiarton Wild 5-4 in a Nov. 26
match, decimated the Shallow
Lake Lakers 7-0 on Nov. 20
and beat TCDMHA 7-4 on
Nov 6.
A Nov. 2 contest saw them fight
back from a 3-1 deficit to tie the
Hanover Falcons 3-3.
In a tournament in Durham over
the weekend, the Bantams beat the
Stayner Cyclones 3-1 and lost to the
Hanover Falcons 2-1.
The team also took on the Minto
Mad Dogs at the Harriston-
Minto Community Centre on Nov.
28 and challenged the Mildmay
Monarchs at the Brussels, Morris
and Grey Community Centre
(BMGCC) on Nov. 30, but
scores were unavailable at press
time.
The team next faces off against
Arran-Elderslie who they have yet to
face this season on Dec. 7
at the BMGCC. The action starts at 9
p.m.

undefeated in regular season
Lightning take silver
at U.S. tournament
The Saugeen Maitland Bantam AA
Lightning girls travelled to
Pittsburgh last weekend to
participate in the American
Thanksgiving Classic and came
home with the silver medal.
During round robin play the Bolts
defeated Nepean by a 7-0 score with
the shutout going to Rebecca Ropp.
The girls beat the hometown
Pittsburgh Elite 3-1 in the second
game of the round robin.
On Saturday the girls tied the
Belleville Bearcats 2-2 and defeated
the Mississauga Chiefs 2-0 with
Morgan Baker earning the shutout.
This put the Bolts in first place in the
round robin with a semi-final
berth against Nepean on Sunday
morning.
The Lightning struck the Nepean
girls with a 5-1 victory which set up
a re-match with Belleville for the
finals. The girls fell behind early in
the game, but battled back,
outplaying the Bearcats, yet coming
up on the short end of a 2-1 loss.
Goal scorers for the weekend were
Miranda Lantz (five), Tori Terpstra
(three), Neve VanPelt (three),
Maddie Duncan (two), Avery Reeves
(two), Lexi Smith, Jessica Dales,
Cassidy Mason, Jamie Simpson and
Ciara Lark.
Assists were awarded to Terpstra
(three), Lantz (two), Smith (three),
Reeves (three), Jamie Simpson
(two), Ashlee Simpson, Hannah
Herman, Nikki Zabel, VanPelt,
Dales, Mason, Lark and Duncan.
Cheering their teammates on from
the bleachers were Holly Nelson and
Kaitlin Eckert, currently on the
injured list.

PeeWee Reps top Otters
Solid play by the defence and a
pair of shutouts by goaltenders,
Stephanie Sluys and Shea Tiley
helped the Saugeen Maitland Midget
AA Lightning pick up a pair of wins
this weekend.
The two shutouts mark the
Lightning’s 10th and 11th shutouts
this season.
Last Saturday’s matchup saw the
Lightning were outshot, Sluys
stopped all 17 Waterloo shots to help
Maitland to a 2-0 win.
On Sunday, the Lightning
prevailed with another 2-0 victory
this time against the Brantford
Icecats.
Shea Tilley stopped all the Icecats
shots including a barrage of shots
late in the game as the Lightning
fought off a five-minute penalty.
Weekend goal scorers were Kelly
Gribbons, Laura Irwin, Hannah
Davidson and Stacie Vink. Assists
went to Brittany Butcher (two),
Dollee Meigs (two), Vink and Harley
Westman.
This weekend, the ladies head off
to Whitby to play in the 15th Annual
Tournament of Heroes.
PeeWee Lightning win Gold
The Saugeen Maitland PeeWee
AA Lightning captured gold at the
Barrie Sharkfest tournament earlier
this month with a 3-1 win over
Peterborough in the championship
game. Madison Davey led the way
with two goals and Hana Solinger
added the other goal. The PeeWee
girls opened the tournament with a
0-0 tie with Toronto Leaside.
Kaitlyn Chagnon notched the
shutout.
Saugeen’s next game was against
Peterborough which ended in a 3-3
tie. Kailee Hewitt scored two and
Kelsey Mighton scored as well. The
final round-robin game was a 2-1
win over Barrie with Delayna Smith
and Davey each scoring.
The Blyth Brussels PeeWee Rep
team played the Teeswater Otters on
Nov. 25 and came away with a 4-1
victory.
Logan Kellington scored the first
two goals with assists going to Jacob
Coultes, Connor Bridge, and Mitch
McKee. Jack Pipe made it 3-1 with
helpers from Noah Terpstra and
Brenden Howson.
Howson then scored his own
marker with assists going to Pipe
and Terpstra.
Defeating Teeswater marked the
team’s fourth straight win.
The team travelled to Mount
Forest Nov. 29 to take on the Rams,
however a score was unavailable as
of press time.
The Blyth Brussels PeeWee Rep
squad next takes to the ice on Dec. 4
when they travel to Teeswater for a
rematch against the Otters. The
action starts at 6:30 p.m.
The Blyth Brussels Tyke 1 team
has played six games so far this
season, posting a 5-0-1 record so far.
They notched two wins this weekend
starting on Saturday, knocking off
the Teeswater Otters by a score of 5-
3 and on Sunday they played to
another win defeating the Seaforth
Stars by a score of 5-3.
Coaches Todd MacDonald and
Brett Fischer say their team of 15
skaters and one goalie is really
playing as a team and showing much
improvement each time they hit the
ice.
Scoring and assists have been
widespread throughout the 15
players and stellar goaltending has
carried the team to an undefeated
record this early in the season.
