Ushering were Doug Whitson, Cliff Snell and Terry Richmond. Music director was Malinda Exel filling in for Floyd Herman. Fred Hakkers ran the power point. The flowers at the front were in memory of Warren Moore placed by his family. David Onn welcomed everyone to church in the absence of Rev. Gary Clark. The first hymn, “How Sweet the Name of Jesus” was followed the call to worship. The scripture was from Genesis 32. The children were asked to come to the front for their story time. David told the children that our names all mean something. In some cultures you are born with one name but through the years your name is changed to something else. The books in the Bible also have names. David drew everyone’s attention to the announcements in the bulletin. Special mention was that the choir was serving a crockpot lunch after church. The next hymn, “All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name” was sung. David’s message to the adults was “Names, Names and Names.” What is in a name? We have names for games, we are often asked to sign our names and then print them so others can read them. Often we are named after a family member, like a father, mother or grandparents. Names are often repeated through the generations. Sometimes our names are changed. Like Jacob’s name in the scripture this morning was changed to Israel. Jacob stole his brother’s birthright and ran away. Twenty yeas later he returns to hisfamily and sends messengers to his brother asking him if he could return. Jacob was afraid of his brother. We as a church are asked to be good leaders and to set a good example for the next generations. The people of the church must reach out to others and show we believe. The prayer of confession, the assurance of pardon, the prayers for the world and silent prayers were followed by the receiving of the offering and the offertory prayer. The last hymn, “O Master Let Me Walk with Thee” was followed by the commissioning and benediction. David said grace and invited everyone downstairs for lunch provided for by the choir. The free-will donations are going to purchase new stoles for the choir. Sympathy is extended to the family of Blake Hesselwood, son of Luann Taylor and Ken Hesselwood. Sympathies to Hesselwood family in mourning By Marilyn Craig Call 523-9318 From Marilyn’s Desk Grade 7/8 Class hosts anti-bullying presentation By Phaedra Scott As some of you may know, last week was “Anti-Bullying Week.” In honour of this week, the Grade 7/8 students put together a presentation demonstrating the bullying that could happen at school at different age levels. The song “Make It Stop” by Rise Against basically inspired the whole presentation. The music video to this song sends a very powerful message so we felt that if we re- created the music video, with students from our school, it would be just as moving. Students were split into groups to compose a short video on examples of bullying that would be featured in the presentation. The class also has been practising with piano and guitar accompaniment while the students sing. Their plan is to have the video playing in the background while they perform the song live at the assembly on Nov. 30. On Nov. 23 the Grade 8 students went to Tech Day at Central Huron Secondary School and are excited about machinery, auto and wood shops as well as computer technology experiences and cooking. In science, the Grade 7/8 class is learning about cells while the Grade 6 class started a new unit on flight. By Courtney Bachert Everyone is learning their special part in the Christmas play this year, the Nativity Scene. Classes will be singing and acting throughout the musical with Mrs. Thorpe-Hearn helping along with lines and costumes. The date for the performance is set for Dec. 15 and we hope you will all attend. The Junior Kindergarten students have been focusing on their transportation unit. The night was scheduled to feature a performance by the Blyth United Church Choir, but it was unfortunately cancelled. (Jim Brown photo) Continued on page 21 $188 Well done! (J.C. Ryle, “The Gospel of Mark” 1857) People were overwhelmed with amazement. “He has done all things well!” they said. Mark: 7:37 The truth to which they gave utterance, is full of deep and unspeakable comfort; and ought to be daily remembered by all true Christians. Let us remember it, as we look BACK over the past days of our lives, from the hour of our conversion. “Our Lord has done all things well!” In the first bringing us out of darkness into His marvellous light: in humbling us and teaching us our weakness, guilt, and folly; in stripping us of our idols; in choosing all our portions; in placing us where we are, and giving us what we have — how well everything has been done! How great the mercy — that we have not had our own way! Let us remember it as we look FORWARD to the days yet to come. We know not what they may be: bright or dark, many or few. But we do know, that we are in the hands of Him who does all things well! (to be continued next week) A Grace Gem Submitted by: Immanuel United Reformed Church, Listowel, ON 519-291-1956
