The Thursday night darts was cut short by the hydro outage but the 13 darters were having a good time prior and while waiting for the lights to come back on. Leading before the darkness were Sheron Stadelmann and Gord Jacklin. There was a tie for second between Sharon Robbins and John Stadelmann and team Bush Whittard and Sandra Josling. High shots were by Sandra with 125 and John hitting 127. Friday had the Branch serving the funeral luncheon for the family of the late George Cardiff. Our sympathies are expressed to all his family. Helping at the Branch on Friday were Comrades Sandra Josling, Mabel Glanville, Deb Caan and Mary Bradshaw. Wings, fries and salads were on the menu Friday night. A smaller crowd of about 25 enjoyed the fare. This Friday will be roast beef. The days are winding down to get in the membership draw as an early bird. The last winner will be drawn next week, Nov. 30 and then the price goes up. Drop in today and pay your dues. New members are always welcome to join the Branch. Drop in and pick up a membership form and join one of the largest volunteer organizations in Canada. The Cadets are still collecting pop cans and the Branch is accepting the pop tabs. Drop them in to the Branch. There are sports events coming up for zone. Team darts is this weekend and single darts in early December. Sign-up sheets are the Branch. The Blyth Brussels team participated in the Zone Legion tournament on the weekend in Lucknow. They played Friday night against Kincardine and won 5-2. There next opponents on Saturday were Ripley and a good game played with Blyth Brussels winning 3-1. The final game was against Mitchell and it was a really tough game. Blyth Brussels defeated Mitchell 3-2 in to take the A championship. Congratulations to the boys and their coaches for a very successful weekend. We really must remember thewonderful weather of Novemberwhen we start our complainingabout the awful days of January, butwill we? What a gift, double-digit temperatures and sunshine! It was fun and laughter on Turnberry Street on Thursday night as the businesses of Brussels got it together and offered folks a fun way to check out the available merchandise on the main street. Colourful sheets of paper listing theparticipating businesses and theirofferings were available as a start forChristmas Education, of the vehiclekind, at McCutcheon Motors, popcorn at Burke’s Tents, hot chocolate at Cheryl’s Critters, donuts at Bondi Restoration and cider at Maitside Orchard were just a few of the places ready to be checked and offering a treat. It was a good chance to see inside places you don’t normally frequent and besurprised. For those who missed thefun, get your passport and go see thefolks for a stamp, a peek andhopefully a purchase. The prize, from a draw of the full-stamped passports will be done Dec. 31, so you have lots of time to support the many businesses of Brussels. I have a garden stone that says “It takes a long time to grow an old friend”. On Thursday night Ralph and I had dinner with Janis and Mary: my friends who I first met in 1967 when we were students nurses. From the first encounter, under the watchful eye of the nuns at St. Joseph’s, we connected and the connection remains. Life has moved along and we’ve grown and changed in the years, but whenever we gather, usually with our partners, the ATTENTION: STUDENTS The Brussels Lions Club is participating in the Lions Club International Youth Exchange Program.
