JIM SMITH Mr. James Edwin Smith, formerly of RR 1, Listowel, passed away at Spruce Lodge, Stratford on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011. He was in his 92nd year. Jim was the beloved husband of the late Violet (Ritchie) Smith and the dear father of Margaret and Dick Richmond, Waterloo; Jean and James Snedden, Brights Grove; Bob and Angie Smith, Sudbury and Bill Smith of Stratford. Jim was the grandfather of Mike Richmond and Stephanie Goessler of Kitchener, Heather Richmond of London, and Renee Smith of Sudbury and great-grandfather of Kaiden Richmond. He was the brother-in-law of Wallace McKee and Eileen Nethercott, both of Listowel; Daisy Wall, Wingham; Betty Ritchie, Lucknow and Madeline Ritchie, Goderich. Jim was predeceased by his sister Marion McKee and his brothers Mac Smith and Ken Smith. A Legion Memorial Service was held before visitation on Tuesday. The funeral service was held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Wednesday, Nov. 16. Interment was in Molesworth Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at www.eatonfuneralhome.ca JEAN ELIZABETH WALKER Jean Walker of Wingham passed away at her residence on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011. She was 85. The former Jean Leaver was the beloved wife of Howard Walker and the dear mother of Joyce and Murray Vincent of Belgrave, Glen Walker and Joanne Cook of East Wawanosh and Cheryl and Brent Foxton of Wingham. She was the loving grandmother of Dean and Barb, Jayne and David, Vaughn, Todd and Christine, Jody, Matthew, Cody and Chad. Jean is also survived by her sister Evelyn and David Hackett of Lucknow and 12 great- grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents Alexander and Lavina (King) Leaver and her sister Doris Leaver in childhood. Visitation will be held at McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home chapel on Friday at 1:30 p.m. Interment is in Wingham Cemetery, Wingham. Memorial donations to Wingham and District Hospital Foundation or the Wingham United Church would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. Following an exchange between Councillors Bailey, Brock Vodden and Reeve Neil Vincent regarding questions Blyth residents have about the closure of Blyth Public School, Bailey wondered why council meetings are not held very often in Blyth. “Can we have a meeting over there so those people know we want them to be a part of the township?” Bailey asked.
